Tragic what happened between him and Danniella. Still means something to him clearly. Nobody is dredging up an ex like that if she didn't REALLY mean something. Terrible that cocaine addiction robbed them of what could have been. People slag her off and laugh at her, but drug addiction hurt her BAD and Brian's experience with drugs did him no favors either. They should both feel lucky to be alive. I'm getting the feeling also that Brian's behavior may be cannabis withdrawal IF he's truly off the draw.
