  • The Buddha described patience as the highest spiritual quality. But why should we be patient? Shouldn’t we try to get out of suffering as fast as possible? However, the Buddha also described the process of awakening (and meditation) as an impersonal process of cause and effect. It is in the context of the Buddha’s profound teachings on non-self that the true power of patience can be understood. Drawing on the teachings of the Buddha as well as his own extensive meditation experience, Ajahn Brahmali explained how we can harness the power of patience to propel us on the Path. Anukampa is a UK Charity and pioneering project that is raising funds to develop the first Theravada Bhikkhuni Monastery in the UK, where women can train towards full ordination. Thank you for posting, I appreciate the effort you Monks put into these videos. 43:40 secs, Indeed another thing that anger does is affect not only memory but the truth of the moment. That is the factual way everything was happening, and what people actually indetified with, in terms of actions and thought.

Thank you! I thought of the internet as a medium of meditation. Sitting and letting images of the word pass by.

Burning up the sense of self (ego) by practicing 'patience' and 'meditation' on the spiritual path would alleviate much suffering... Thank you bhante

What happened in my case, is that I would get angry, not enough to act on anything, but then I would make a choice of action, and I was shown how errorful it wpuld be, and this was done repetitively, such that the truth of the error of holding anger, and subsequent errors, were apparent. There was another good technique of controlling, then getting rid of anger, they would place a aluminum can on the sidewalk and see if I would crush it, so it became something of controll, and no crushing cans, kind of loops sometimes.

Getting rid of anger is absolutely absurd, getting rid of, is aversion, to be rid of is literally the act of anger. Anger like each of the five heaps is associated with a negative emotion and negative emotion a heap or skandha. Imagine if each of your limbs and your spine were each one a negative emotion would you benefit from cutting off your arm or leg because that is how much anger is a part of you. The middle way is to find a way to through wisdom to settle in a view which neither accepts anger nor rejects but instead sees it’s essential nature as being solely dependent on your apprehension of the behavior, a scientific example, there was a study performed on stress that found that stress absolutely had a correlation between stress and major health conditions, except for those people who said they enjoyed stress where no such health problems were found. Just like if you saw your genitalia as being responsible for your infidelity you would create a feeling of shame anytime you became aroused. You create the negativity anytime anger arises but you could also remember oh this anger is my path to letting go for if everytime My anger arises I think of the antidote which is loving kindness it will soon become reliably following after anger, then you practice applying compassion thinking of the suffering of beings who through anger give rise to all sorts of negative results like hell which is the realm that correlates with anger, particularly rage being the hot hells and self hatred or depression being the cold hells and various other types of anger like sadism creating the razor grass hell etc. If instead of thinking I am angry this is bad and I want to hurt someone to quench the craving for revenge that follows the sting of anger. Instead if you think oh this ancient anger from beginningless time has become the cause of hell and so much misery I will instead remember the suffering of all beings that the results of anger has caused and give rise to love thinking of how terrible that suffering is. Then train and then compassion follows and you apply love thinking I will invest in that which frees me from anger and practice loving kindness , then this becomes familiar your karma of anger begins to become the karma of anger giving way to compassion and theShamatha of loving kindness, which is a little negative but mostly positive because remember karmic acts are not complete until one feels satisfied. So as long as your are not satisfied that you got angry as long as you don’t feel it was correct or right to get angry the karma is not complete and instead of you take joy and are satisfied in your compassion that is complete, then your habit after a year of diligence begins to be the thought to be angry arises but then I think of loving kindness and practice that, then another year goes by or maybe two more and now after diligent practice the causes and conditions of anger give rise to love now anger has been seen through by wisdom and you see just the potential for anger and then compassion and loving kindness and Joy in practicing virtue. The keep taking great joy in loving kindness now you feel loving kindness even when you do not even think of being angry you just know that anger is the cause of pain for ordinary beings and you understand pain is anger but pain being suffering is the cause of compassion if beings did not suffer compassion could not arise. Now you see the Buddha realm, you understand there is no anger there is only the cause of compassion and it was ignorance that caused me to react to anger because of my grasping at my illusory self but now I grasp at the four immeasurables which is the cause of the accumulation of merit and I grasp at the truth that beings only suffer because they grasp at a self instead of grasping at the wisdom of equanimity between self and other illustrated by the four immeasurables by meditating on your inseparable nature from all through love for beings which now strikes you weather you are angry or not your ordinary self grasping has been overcome by the accumulation of wisdom of knowing existence beyond self and other. The mind that feels the suffering of beings as there own and wishes to free all sentient beings from suffering slowly turns towards the truth of the illusion of self. The more that the suffering of beings causes you to escape grasping at your own experience and transcending it through thinking of the welfare of others slowly causes shamatha of the first three to dwell in the wisdom that transcends the four extremes or vipassana which is great equanimity In this way. You do not practice not sinking you practice floating until sinking becomes impossible and then you transcend the duality of sinking or not sinking. Just replace sinking with falling in to negativity. The Buddhas see only the truth and for the Buddhas Anger does not arise, phenomena themselves have not ceased but the illusion of negativity based on the fixation of self has ceased. If you try to get rid of anger you get stuck in attatchment and avervesion but if you practice attatchment to virtue you transcend all negativity because negativities are not Dharma they are not real but virtue is in fact Dharma it is part of the Buddha so what did you give up, not anger, not it’s causes, you gave up the fight between good and evil and practiced The four immeasurables. This is how the Buddha defeats Mara when he attacks with his weapons they are transformed by his virtue by his love which transforms the weapons into flowers which is revealing the true nature of the weapons as flowers,
This may be hard to accept but the Buddha achieved enlightenment through the concentration on wisdom. This concentration was born from the accumulation of eons of Merit. If you practice not hating you will just be trying to divorce yourself from yourself you are fixating on your delusion. So you can’t do it, if you practice compassion love and joy you will naturally give up anger by clarifying your own natural radiance. You cannot get away from darkness by rejecting your shadow but your shadow will disappear if you become a light yourself. Then the darkness you see is inseparable from Dharma, Desire is Compassion misunderstanding, Anger is Love misunderstanding, Jealousy is Joy misunderstanding, pride is equanimity misunderstanding, When desire is seen to be the wish to be free from sorrow and you wish all sentient beings to be free from sorrow wisdom of equanimity shamatha of compassion. When you see anger is just the wish to have happiness and you wish all sentient beings to have happiness same. When you see ignorance is not knowing all is connected interdependent then equanimity rises. When jealousy is seen as the wish to have Joy and you wish all to have joy then shamtha of Joy wisdom of equanimity. When proud comes we see proud is not knowing all beings are equal wanting happiness same wanting freedom from suffering same then equanimity rises. Beings turn in the round of pain because they always mistakenly think I am a hero I will fight against negativity then they find enemies and friends and they create aversion and attatchment. Instead good practioner he says no hero no enemy no negativity to fight only train in the truth of positivity everywhere always love, compassion, joy, equanimity wisdoms. That being they don’t push away negativity they don’t make friends positivity instead themselves become past friends and enemies no self interest only other beings suffering interest not thinking I am good but good is good. Not thinking this is bad but making peace thinking how to come to the good. No friend in pleasant things no enemies in unpleasant things only friend virtue and wisdom Buddha Dharma Refuge. Even then not mistaking refuge is mind, not temple not temporary phenomena temporary people, refuge is beyond time Buddha beyond thought temporary or permanent. Then no mistaken anger when Buddha statue is broken Buddha book disrespect still no enemies no problems only make peace celebrating merit truths. This way, like this. Ordinary religion one side way, light is good friend darkness bad enemy, this is samsara, because we love friends we do harm to protect, because we oppose enemies we do harm to repel, one side religion is like this. Dharma is middle way balance, friend not always friend true friend Buddha merit wisdom, enemy not always enemy true friend Buddha merit wisdoms. No friend permanent no enemy permanent, all sentient beings been enemy been friend, you not judge seeing anger just temporary focus Buddha merit wisdom. You not judge temporary virtue Love just focus merit and wisdom. In this way we are not caught by the hook of appearences by holding to refuge in the three jewels. Remember anger is not your enemy you given up enemies when you took refuge, remember those who show you nice side nor permanent friends you gave up friends when you took refuge. All is equanimity, anger person sentient being requires loving kindness compassion equanimity joy same loving person same sentient being. Your anger your still sentient being, no difference, your anger others anger what is required is four immeasurable mind. Very simple easy path not difficult only one thing middle thing equal thing no discriminating self other only sentient beings and Buddha Dharma Sangha, sentient beings practice four immeasurables, Buddhas practice fourimeasuraboes, good person bad person practice four immeasurables only two accumulations merit and wisdom, only two meditations steady mind, equal truth mind. Easy don’t fight yourself just merit and wisdom positive thought and meditation only two, rejecting not one of these. Ok Love you.

1 hr. Im dont want to try to rgue, but in the case of kosmos building, it may be that thru sucessive recursions the formula for that was refined. Whatever made the FIRST kosmoses knew recursion as well.
