I have a 1950s model very similar to yours except the speed controller. What a cool drill press. Well done.

Beautiful restoration. I have the 1957 floor model with the same variable speed attachment. As you shared, the attachment was original to the more deluxe models of these drills. For those that don't know these machines were made by the King Seely company for sears and were identified as such on the machines themselves. My machine had seen little use when i bought it and was equipped with a like vintage original Craftsman motor. I found mune advertised on Craigslist with a matching Craftsman vertical bandsaw, both 1957 vintage, no pics and no mention the drill press was variable speed, simply advertised as old 1957 Craftsman machines. $150 bought the pair of machines!

Nice DP. Was the Vari-Slo attachment an accessory sold by Sears, or aftermarket? How did you know it would fit your press? And where did you find it? Thanks. Brian

It's an original accessory. It came with another drill press of the same kind.
