      I told my dad when he was choking the fuck out of me at 13 for the hundredth time or so that I hoped he felt big, because soon I would be healthy and he would be an old ass man. I saw him again a couple decades later. I held the door for him. He had a heart attack and had to be hospitalized when he left.
      Ha...telltale heart syndrome, innit?
      Fuck that dude. Sometimes you don't even have to lay hands on people for their guilt to strike them down. I guess that's why some people believe in God.

    The whole "talking back" thing frustrated me as a child, and it frustrates me now. It doesn't inspire respect, it only makes it so you can never quite relax around them because you don't know when a disagreement if you going to be framed as "disrespect". It's only one facet of parenting, obviously but... argh, I was shouting at the screen for that bit!

    • @defenderofminorities3056
      @defenderofminorities3056 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      talking back teaches us as kids how to confront or not confront situations when we get older, it's all about learning what to do and what not to do, parents who teach that talking back is always wrong should be ashamed.

    • @me-dc8pj
      @me-dc8pj ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Also it just shows the parents can't argue their case well enough against the kids to hold up

    • @Speedoodleman
      @Speedoodleman 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @SteveyTheEx-Eeveebeing able to hold a conversation about why you’re being yelled at with an adult without being told to basically just shut up for no reason isn’t creating entitled children. What’s creating entitled children is being presented with behaviour that just says “you don’t need to listen to anyone when they’re in the right because you can just tell them to stop talking and be oblivious”
      Also fucking hell i hate this “zoomers are entitled” narrative.
      1) half of the people that say this think zoomers are still like 8
      2) every older generation insults the younger generation

    • @Speedoodleman

    Not only is the "slosh-pipe" in my eyes, even though non-violent, a corporal punishment, but he already had that thing ready to go. The pen it lies in also looks as if it is reserved for this specific activity, so I wouldn't rule out the possibility that they use this method on their own kids too. 🤯
    To me it even feels like between the biological children there's sort of an atmosphere of snitching on others in order to avoid being punished themselves going on; imagine what it does to a group of siblings that are forced or encouraged to snitch every single time one of the kids does something considered publishable. 🤮
    In half of those episodes, the places the kids that are sent to for "social alignment", rather reveal cases of heavy child abuse than fix the problems the children were sent there in the first place.. 🤦🏼‍♂️

  • @Child_Dog
    @Child_Dog ปีที่แล้ว +156

    Also, I think you're the best YT at this old TV show breakdown stuff that I've seen. You make jokes and skits, but you still keep the show as the central focus rather than showboating over it, and explain the show and make a coherent narrative. SO many TV commentators just show memes and clips instead of talking us through the episode to enough of a degree that we can actually laugh along. ArthurTV's really good at it too, but you've nailed the perfect balance for me. Nice work fella.

    My grandma had the best afdvice for ADULTS around kids defending themsleves i try to remind myslef a lot now as a parent. "standing up for yourself does not equate disrespect, even from kids, because how do you expect anyone to know how to be respected if you only teach them how to give respect but not recieve it, because thats how you get adults that are riddled with anxiety" and i feel like these parents could use that tip of advice.

    "Watching 'World's Strictest Parents' is like stepping into an alternate reality where parenting styles are pushed to their absolute limits. It’s almost surreal to see how different cultures approach discipline and the expectations they have for their children. The extreme measures taken by some of these families are both fascinating and unsettling; while some teens clearly need a wake-up call, others seem utterly crushed under the weight of unattainable standards. It’s almost shocking to see the raw emotions that unfold-rebellion, anger, and occasional understanding-making each episode feel like a psychological experiment rather than just a parenting show.
    The strictness of these parents often comes off as over-the-top, leading viewers to question whether they genuinely believe such drastic measures will instill respect and responsibility or if it’s simply about control. Occasionally, the chaos and drama escalate to the point where it feels like the kids are not being treated as individuals but rather as projects to be fixed. Watching these teens grapple with such intense authority figures can be both painful and enlightening, as it highlights the complexities of familial relationships and the struggles of growing up under such scrutiny.
    On one hand, you can't help but empathize with the kids who feel suffocated by their parents' rules, yet on the other, you wonder if, in some cases, a lack of discipline has led them to this point. It’s a wild ride filled with awkward moments, emotional breakdowns, and unexpected insights that make you reflect on your own upbringing and the balance of freedom and structure. Overall, this show serves as a wild mirror reflecting not just the struggles of youth but the sometimes-ungraspable nature of parent-child dynamics, leaving you questioning what truly makes a successful family environment. Every episode is a rollercoaster of emotions, and by the end, you're left pondering how much of our upbringing shapes who we become, as well as how much is too much when it comes to parental control."

    I'm all for more discipline these days,but these parents are true bullies.Most of the scenarios were they are punishing the kids,they have set them up to begin with. The mother continually asks the kids questions,to then accuse them if back chatting,but I bet my bottom dollar if they hadn't answered the mother,they would be punished for ignorance.
    Behaving out of fear of parents,is all wrong.
