- Learn how I made an iPhone (Lightning) Cable for myself. Making cables is a great way to make the cables you need when you need. I hope this video helps some of you out there.
Disclaimer: Build at your own risk. With any cables used for charging there may be some higher risks for higher powered devices.

For those that don't want to use JB Weld, I've been messing with making some of my own for a few months before this video came out and I've found that a little gorilla glue or loctite on just the white end holds up pretty well for all the cables that I've made thus far!
Fascinating & very comprehensive… I’m old school and have only made phone, RCA, XLR, and similar cables.
Thanks for this video! I just made my first cable with a kit from your site
Nice video , I’m going to try and make one
I was about to destroy my lighting cable to see if the connectors were proprietary... perfect timing
@Valentin Julio this is most likely a scam lol how did two accounts comment and try out a service in 20 min? Dont fall for it guys
those 2 are the most sus comments ive ever seen
@@stellar_7283 sussy baka? 😳
ur the goat josh!
Homie is bacc :)
I would really appreciate a lightning to USB-C cable video. Thanks.
Just solder on the USB-C the same as you would the USB-A. The solder pads take the signals in the same order :)
@@THEprinkus ur sure thats all thats needed to make a fast charging compatible cable?
If you’re trying to make a quick charge cable, shorter is always better and look for a smaller AWG (thicker) wire that’ll still be able to fit on the solder pads.
Nothing but respect for using JB Weld and not hot glue. It’s the best
This has been on my mind for a while now so I appreciate you sharing! My dream is to make a proper functional usb-c to usb-c cable. Apparently you need special “host” configurations on one end if you want a proper charge and I haven’t yet been able to figure it out!
i'm planning on doing a video on usb-c to usb-c cables some time next month. There's an addition resistor needed on the USB-C host connector for it to work properly.
Thanks
any idea when the lightning connectors will be back in stock?
It seems that at 3:31 top left corner the graph of the color code for data+ data- is opposit. Normally white is Data- and green is Data+.
Where do you buy the iPhone connector?
Nvm lol I finally got to the part where he said where
Good stuff here! Is it possible to make a custom Lightnig to Mini USB?
can you do usb type C as well?
On every lightning connector I have the white is D- and the Green is D+.
Can u make a video on USB C to lightning.
No cable strain relief on the lightning side? Granted, the connector does not exactly have any built-in means for it, but wouldn't it be better to epoxy the outer cable sleeving to the connector housing as well?
What about the mafi certification as it is some chip on the lightning connector
Hey Josh! Thank you for the videos; they're so great! With your help I completed a USB-A to USB-C cable!
Going to buy a bunch of Lightning Connectors now.
I notice at 3:28 that the wires aren't pre-stripped. Are you using the pre-tinning to melt the sleeving? That way there would be a decrease the exposed cable on a small connector? or can I just not see that they're pre-stripped?
thanks! glad i can help :)
sometimes I went I'm lazy and just need a little wire exposed i just melt it off. kills two birds with one stone, but doing so is probably not healthy to inhale
Hey josh! I had a quick question I’ve made a few of the lightning cables from the diy parts on your website and I came across one that won’t do data but only power. So if I plug it into my desktop it won’t charge or sync same with my car play in my vehicle. But into the wall it charges just fine. Was it a soldering issue or a bad connector?
Heya mate. Cool vids. You seem like a master in this scene. Can you tell me is it possible to make a cable that goes from lightning plug TRRS to 2x stereo male plugs. I want to record my stereo out from my dj mixer to my iPhone input. Thanks x
Hello. Can you help me? How many wires do i need to solder in my ugreen usb A to lightning cable?
heyo! just wondering if/when the lightning connector might come back in stock on the site, looking to make one of these cables for my brother as a gift this christmas! cheers :)
can they be used for data transferring?
Bro can u make usb c pd cable?
will this work with iPhone? is it MFI registration so it will not show a message that says this device is not supported?
Just wondering would this work for a mac charger? could I do usb-c to usb-c?
(1) I now it's been quite a while since your original post, but do you happen to know of any other sources for the lightning connector, or similar? The one you noted is out of stock.
(2) I want to repair one of my 10' aftermarket lightning connectors, but it has five wires, including the ground soldered to the connector's metal jacket. Any idea on that?? I don't think I can get it's own connector board separated because the internal metal jacket has been 'pressed' installed .
I’m tryn to figure out wire does what
So whats the order im looking at? Red green white black right?
Never understood why you dont use the standard color pinout for Data+ , should be the green wire instead of white :) not that it matters haha just easier to remember as its usually the green one.
How do you get around the certified cable issue with iphones and lighting connectors?
The chinese can get around anything
Hey can you show how to do a usb c to c 3.0 cable
i'll do something like that in the next month or so
Hey Josh love your videos just wish they could be higher quality than 720p, i realize it might be a money situation for you to get a better camera/ or is it your computer capturing that is limiting you?. Love the content just being greedy and hoping for 1080p/1440p content, keep it going bud!.
i've been working on it. haven't be the most knowledgeable about that stuff but I have a nicer camera on hand just need to figure out how to mount it properly.
I'll upload future videos in 1080p!
@@CruzCtrl Thank for the reply, great news!
How do you purchase the parts ?
Funny, I just starting selling lighting cables today
How are sales? What site are you selling on?
@@Princeton_James Hey, well the sells of the lighting cables weren't too good, just selling coiled usbc's now

2:20 What is this background music? It sounds dope.
Also what soldering iron do you use?

Good looking cableeee, sorry the Cheetos dust on my Corsair made the key stick.
heh, i've had worse cheeto dust on my corsair k70
Do you know guzyaiden ? If yes can you say me the name of his cable Color ?
hey josh. i bought your lightning usb off your website. well i cant get it to connect to my pc. it makes the noise.that it connects but nothing else. not even a charge... needless to say it charges just fine off the wall.
I am having the same issue as well! I’d be curious to find out why this happens.
it's not quickcharge right? It would have to end in type c? Nice video
this isn't a quick charge. Also quick charge cables use 28/24 gauge cable where I'm just using standard usb 2.0 28/28 cable here.
@@CruzCtrl Does this imply that I can use 28/24 gauge cable and it would be quick charge? Or are there some additional needed steps to achieve that quick charge.
please start selling the lightning pcb again
Aren't those wires a bit too thin? It looks like 4x 28 AWG and by the specs that's not enough for charging.
Pretty sure stock Apple lightning cables use 28 AWG.
@@DA-pb5kc It can go up to 1.4A, chargers do exceed that. At least for Android, maybe Apple products don't, for example lightning connector can handle even less.
along last
Can i commission you to build me one of these?
