It's Shanahan because right now he is viewed like Reid was for years. Excellent OC. Very good HC. Can elevate every QB he coaches but can't win the big game. A win means not only can he win the big game but he will have beaten the best coach and the best QB in the league to get it. It also means that they don't necessarily have to give Brock the biggest QB contract when negotiations start after next season. Shanahan really can look around the league at free agents or the draft to get a more affordable QB instead of tying up $50 million + to one player.
I dissagree with the fact that Jimmy "Got us to the SB". He played well enough for us not to lose much during those years, he had some solid years with above average play. My niners were CARRIED by ELITE defense in those years. If you pay attention and arent one of those ignorant casual football fans, you can see clear as day that Brock is light years ahead of what Jimmy was doing in our offense. Its because of his talent, decision making, accuracy, and playmaking.
Jimmy g didn't get us to the sb, the best defense we ever had since Kyle got us there. Brock isn't playing with the defense that was that good.

True. I hate pointing it out because it feels like hating but in the two postseasons he got rings he was in three total snaps and didn’t have a single carry. He also didn’t play in either SB. I’d give him some props for the Chiefs one because he did contribute during the regular season even if he wasn’t part of the playoffs. But with the Bucs that was a gift ring. He had less than 30 touches for the season.

Agreed. Our defense is overrated this year and is a major cause for concern. I only think media pundits overrate our defense to put down Purdy’s performance and downplay what he has done. Any person who has been watching all the niners games knows the defense has major weaknesses and that it is nowhere what it used to be especially the last month when it matters most. Thankfully our offense has exploded under Purdy and they can put up points quickly to make up for it. Even then our offensive line is bottom tier which is another cause for concern against that Kansas City defense. Purdy is facing a high level of difficulty in his first full starting year. So far he has over-performed well beyond expectations but he needs to do it one more time against the best the NFL has to offer in the juggernaut Cheifs.

And he's efficient with it. Dumb people confuse "difference making" with being exciting. Purdy is never going to throw 80 yard bombs. But he'll throw the occasional 40 yard bomb and light up teams in the 15-30 yard range. He'll attack seams, ins/overs, outs/comebacks, corners/posts.

He's on year-2 of his rookie deal (which I think was 4 years with a 5th year option). He can't even talk about renegotiating until the end of next year according to the CBA. So yeah, there's at least one more year before there's even a discussion. You'd think they would know this or be prep'd about it before the segment.

Enjoyed this one guys. For the record I think there is a chance Purdy takes a "team friendly" deal where he realises his "limitations" and the set up he is in, still gets paid a ton of money but helps keep the monsters together and the train rolling. I get the feeling he is a realistic guy and enjoying the environment he is in and would probably settle for something like that than roll the dice to get the biggest pay day. Could be wrong, but be interesting to see what happens.

Those runs were not in Shanahan’s playbook! Kyle said it himself Purdy takes risks outside of the playbook depending on what he sees in the field! So that’s all Purdy! Did you see that hug, smile and pat on the helmet that Shanahan gave Purdy after beating the Lions? Kyle knows he has someone special!
