BETTE DAVIS & GENA ROWLANDS "STRANGERS " 1979 10/10

  • The First Lady of the American Screen, Bette Davis, earned the 1979 Best Actress Emmy Award (Prime Time, Limited Series or Special) for her work opposite Gena Rowlands, the Queen of Independent Cinema, in the outstanding made-for-TV classic "Strangers: The Story of A Mother And Daughter". Rarely been seen since its May 1979 broadcast, it marks a vital point in the career of Hollywood's greatest actress as it is one of the high points of Miss Davis's "Silver Age", when she played rich parts in some of the most acclaimed television productions of the mid-1970s through the early 1980s. Three decades after its broadcast and two decades after Bette's passing, "Strangers" remains a superb and resonant human drama, deservedly comparable to Ingmar Bergman's "Autumn Sonata" and James L. Brooks's "Terms of Endearment". I hope that my fellow Bette fans will continue to cherish one of her last great performances and films.

I just read all of the comments people have left here, years later, and I want to THANK YOU ALL for them! I cannot agree more: this is one of the greatest films ever to grace television, and Miss Davis and Miss Rowlands are two of the greatest actors ever to grace film. I cannot tell you how happy it makes me to know how much people seeing this on TH-cam love it, and I join you all in anxiously awaiting a proper DVD!!

ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT MOVIE The acting is out of this world. One cares about the both of them and the fact that they made up in the end and said I Love you just breaks the heart!

Gena Rowlands has always been a compliment to the movies that she was in , because of her beauty and grace and her bravura acting talent. She was a fine lady and i will miss her very much. I am happy , though , that she and her beloved , John are together in Heaven. I hope i get the pleasure of meeting them , when i get there. They were an awesome couple. God bless them.

GREAT MOVIE and great performances by both actresses. Their relationship reminds me of mine and my mother's. We never were close but when she died 4 years ago i had visited her 3 years in a row until the year she died. it would have been nice to be close to her, but as I've gotten older I've realized people are who they are and won't change because you want them to.

Dear BD, if you're still here I want so very much to thank you for putting this up. I too watched this years ago and had a VHS tape (from TV) until I accidentally threw it out with several others. I longed to see this again but the times I tried on Amazon the sellers wanted a lot of money. I don't know why it took me so long to see if this was on TH-cam. Thankfully, today I thought about it again and gave it a try. When I saw that you had the entire movie right here, I started it and lo and behold, I just finished it....floods later. Can't help it I love this movie and I remembered so much of it, like it was yesterday. I could even quote lines before they were spoken. I am very grateful to you for this. Thank you, thank you!!!
