    Great vid Mr watts, just want to share how i do that style door/drawer front. I have had good results with using pva then putting two 23g headless pins in each style and rail to stop them swimming then instead of clamps using a vacuum bag to press.I have a 2400x1200 bag and i bet you could get 20-30 doors/drawers in at one time.

      Hi Richard
      That’s a great idea! Inadvertent used those bags before for veneers when I worked in a another workshop. They had like a compressor pump thing for the bags! I will have to look into it! Probably lots of other uses too!
      I do like the security of pinning it!
      Thanks for watching

    Hi Matt, another great video, thanks for putting these together as I really enjoy them. Thought you might have given up when nothing came out over the weekend. Most people I know doing the plant on shaker doors are using two part mitre bond glues to avoid clamping or pinning etc. It also helps with the warping that can sometimes happen on larger MDF doors when using this method. I've used it a few times and it does work well as long as you make the parts a little oversize to trim in later.

    • @Wattsjoinerybarn
      @Wattsjoinerybarn  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Keith
      I don’t mind using Mitre bond to hold stuff while pva goes off and perhaps clamp aswell as the mitre bond will stop the panels swimming about but I don’t like the idea of just mitre bond as it seems too brittle to me. Thats my take so far! Anyway I was too slow to get a video out so missed theses comments and just pinned a load together today. I also made some traditional style ones and for me it’s just a better system. Much more stable too and less weight!.
      Thanks for the support and comments. I really appreciate it! It’s nice to know how other people do it!
      Matt😊

      Yes, it’s sketchup 2017 and you can get it from their main site. You can also get the pro for 30days. I really liked the pro but I wanted to master the basics first so just went with the free version. I recently found out I can access the library for stock images of things like sinks, showers, ovens etc. and with a bit of softening out I can get a good render of those in my models.
      Very addictive program once you get The basics!
      Cheers Matt 👍🏻

      Interesting that you do a drawing for every quote. I used to do that but found I was taking too much time for jobs I wasn't getting. So now I tend to quote first then get an initial deposit that covers my time drawing and amending drawings (a design phase basically)

      @Wattsjoinerybarn  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@_nacnud_
      I probably should have qualified that statement. I don’t draw fro every quote. It’s mainly recommendation so people talk about the costs of previous jobs. If it’s a job out of the blue which is rare I do give a guide line budget normally over the phone. I also make the first drawing very basic but spend a most of my time making sure the room and measures are right! I found I was losing time remeasuring jobs pre production. Now I trust my first measure and have every it of the room documented.
      But I do hear you!
      Thanks for watching, matt

    For your spraying curtain use a Henderson sliding track with lorry curtain sides

      Hi @jasonhughes6994 nice to hear from you again! Tbh I am hearing that a lot! I know with the prep tape and the paint it isn’t going anywhere. I guess if I do them again I will have to do it that way. As a rule I don’t like the back of the doors flat so typically do shaker style panels even with MDF but I know I will get the chance to do these again at some point!
      Thanks for watching.

    Hey mate noticed few Instagram lads are using cnc for there shaker doors out of solid pieces of mdf, suppose it’s a fast way… lot of waste in dust I suppose 🤪 keep up the great work 👍❤️

    • @Wattsjoinerybarn
      @Wattsjoinerybarn  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah. The guy I am thinking or definitely does plant on. I went to Felder recently and was looking at CNC’S it’s a bit of a no brainer as if you put it on finance it’s cheaper than employing someone and obviously will out perform trainees! You would have to be really organised with work flow tho and would need someone fitting. The machines are really interesting but not for me!
      Thanks for the continued support.

      @@Wattsjoinerybarn yeah they are an expensive bits of kit, if your not careful you can end up running manufacturing business rather than a joinery company. Like you say down to personal preference.

      Wish I had a prize for you 😂 no PVA aswell?
      Then again I guess with the edge banding and paint it will hold! Really surprises me tho as face grain to face grain mdf doesn’t glue well with mitre mate! But I guess it’s not really ever stressed!

      I've seen quite a few people use mitre bond for the plant on method. I hear your concerns but in reality it's not really going anywhere. I'm just not a fan of it personally. I think it makes a more unstable door and the weight would worry me on larger doors. Although it seems plenty of people do it so maybe I'm missing a trick? I've recently started getting my doors CNC cut and it saves a lot of time and space in my relatively small workshop.

    • @Wattsjoinerybarn
      @Wattsjoinerybarn  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@_nacnud_
      Yes the weight is my main concern and also if it wants to distort it will be quite severe. I do like it for drawer fronts tho! Cant get to use to it tho as i do a lot of solid work!

    • @_nacnud_
      @_nacnud_ ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Wattsjoinerybarn tbf could you not still use it on solid work? If your doing your usual tulip wood for example keep the solid MDF back panel and then just plant on planed strips on top? If being painted that is obvs. Would depend on what thickness of stock you can get hold of I suppose to make it practical. Do you have capability to resaw? Could obvs substitute the mdf for a veneered board if you wanted grain on panel as well (or weren't painting)..
