I stripped my top plate and painted it with Rustoleum Hammered paint. It turned out great. I damped the bottom of the top plate with pieces of Dynamat. My woodworking friend is making a new plinth for me. These are great turntables for the money and worth the effort to restore a piece of audio history. Good luck with your restoration!

I just don't get the fascination with these turntables. You're doing a great job on both xa's but they just seem like they are not worth any investment. Way better vintage direct drives out there for less money.
I was there with you…but I now have a better appreciation for these tables because of their modifiability. I also think the internal damping of the XA tonearm is pretty cool.
