    I loved your video. Made me homesick for the high Sierra, probably will never make it back. Watching your video truly gave me at home sick feeling in my stomach if you know what I mean. Thank you!

    Excellent video. Narration explained where/what/when. Scenery great and background music volume not intrusive. Also the narrator's calm demeanor suited the tranquility of the hike. All these things made this video far better than most others.

    Very well done! Love this video! Beautiful photography without loud, annoying music! You guys kicked butt!

    • @jacksak
      @jacksak 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Lance Takata: Exactly, no loud music, wonderful. Most other videos ruin their recordings with intrusive noise.

    • @aprilmurphy42
      @aprilmurphy42 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So true these guys did it right. The hippies along the Appalachian trails completely ruin it along with any desire to hike it. They ruin the point of going on these hikes with their music, drinking and drugs and don't enjoy the nature.

    • @jacksak
      @jacksak 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +april murphy: Right. Why do some people assume I'll like their music? If it's about hiking, I'd like to hear the silence or sounds of the trail as well as the hiker's narration. As you intimated, why add an alien sound to nature when the whole video is about enjoying nature?

    Fantastic video diary! Thank You! I'm 56 now and have always wanted to do exactly the same route as you guys did. I've done Whitney a couple of times a couple of decades ago, and from the summit, looking out across the West side into that valley, was just so inviting. Unfortunately, (and occurring very soon thereafter,) with very bad knees, those hopes and dreams have gone unfulfilled. I have to say, this video made me Google, "Hiking the John Muir Trail with Bad Knees". I am now reading loads of articles on this and SOOO hope that I will someday, in the near future, be able to fulfill this long overdue adventure. THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

      You're still young so you have plenty of time to make this dream of yours a reality! There are a few ways to cover 211 miles but it all starts with building up a base fitness for hiking. Although hiking isn't usually seen as a competitive sport, you can still apply a training regimen to help strengthen your body and overcome past injuries. I think some good milestones to hit are 1 mile, 5 mile, 10 mile, 15 mile day hikes; then work your way up to those distances with a pack; then start doing a few consecutive days of backpacking. Fortunately, backpacking gear is considerably lighter/better than it was in the past so that can be very helpful with weaker knees. You can even do the trail in sections! No matter how you get out there, it's simply breathtaking once you're there.

      Try cycling. It worked for me. I have osteoarthritis in both knees and my doctor said I should expect to need a knee replacement by last year. I'm still going strong and loving backpacking. Proper use of trekking poles is also a big help.

      Hiking Nerd,
      Yes, beautiful indeed. It’s hard to choose just one memory, however, I will say it’s when I reached the Whitney Portal after summiting Mt. Whitney because that was the finish line. I summited from Guitar Lake with one hour of sleep so it was brutal. I always sleep well in the Sierras, but not that night prior to the final climb. The JMT will always be a slice of heaven to me. Keep on hiking, friends!

    One of my favorite JMT videos! I'm quite impressed with the pace you two maintained. It's nice to be young. I love the preparation and organization of your gear lists. Very detailed. Not many people count and weigh their toilet paper squares, and list each every item of their first aid kit. I'm surprised with that level of organization that you lost your stove and pot, but great that you took it in stride and adapted. Congratulations on a great hike and great video.
