this can be easily manipulated by OEMs by showing lower battery percentage than what its actual percentage is. Similar to how apple does it with iphones where they still show 100% for sometime then start dropping quickly.

Hey Chad, one important thing to note is that it could be software trickery.
Look phone chips drain battery at a similar power drawing 4w on the low end to 15w on the high end. The best way to show you have longer battery life is to either manipulate the performance and reduce the wattage or improperly display the battery percentage. Apple for example does this a lot and that's why in battery tests their phone at the first 10% (90-100%) drains slower than there (40-60%). The phone draws the same power its just displayed differently.
One thing OPPO could be doing would be displaying less battery than is actually and that's why they can claim it lasts longer

You will also need to consider stuff like; how heavy the UI is, how many apps are being run in the background, whether the device is performing aggressive ram management to save the battery, whether the phone is running any background processes(Samsung, Google & Xiaomi does this a lot.),etc
It might not just be a wrong portrayal of the battery percentage. As for iphone, it shuts down every background processes and does aggresive Ram Management during the last few percentage and during using powersaving mode. On top of it, they do the altered battery percentage.

I never realised how much of a relief it is to know your phone will last you well over the whole day on just 50% battery till i got the Pixel 7 Pro, an upgrade from Pixel 4XL. Iused to charge atleast 2 times a day, however now i charge once in the morning, not even to 100% every time, but still confidently can last the whole day and night! The Reno8T is definately a great idea for those who hate having to charge their phones regularly!

A deviation of 20% could be possible.
In the range of 4,5% to 5,49% the battery would still show 5%.
0,99% out of 5% is a theoretically possible variation of about up to 20%.
The phones could have been charged to 5% while while being turned off and instantly plugged out as soon as 5% is shown for a scientifically comparison but for sure that precision is not the point of video

Considering the difference in SOC, it makes a lot of sense.
Flagship SOCs are usually allowed to drain a lot more power than lower end chipsets, and considering that higher power = higher voltage drop when it comes to phones, that would explain earlier shutdowns even though there is still usable capacity.

In best case the battery shouldn't regularly sink below 20% and not rise above 80%.
Charging to 100% is the worst you can do to a battery.
Charging above 80% is worse than discharging below 20%, heat or quick charging.

    • @officialhideyo
      @officialhideyo ปีที่แล้ว +8

I mean that's how Samsung's tuned it. The battery percentage being shown by the software isn't really the battery percentage of the battery.
Some brands like to show it at 100% for like an hour then reduce fast.
Some others show it drain fast initially, but show it 1% for a long duration.
But most of them do a combination of both to fool naive people such as yourself, they show it at 100% for a long time then drain pretty quick then show it last long below 10%.

    • @max_mwangi

In the S23 series they have improved on that. In my S22 plus once the battery dropped to 5%, it could quickly drain to 0. But in the S23 plus I have it drained slowly when at 5% before reaching 0.

below 20% is cool but dont do this often it destroy the battery ! i dont understand why brands dont prevent battery to down below critical state, there is no internal security whereas go to 0% kill the battery next charge you will have less battery time so... why ?

This is one of the dumbest gimmicks of all time. Just underestimating the battery percentage purposely. Charge both to 100% and see which one lasts longer. This is so dumb. You can make a phone to show that it is on 4% when it is actually on 35% and outperform every smartphone easily in this stupid test. What matters is how long is lasts, not the stupid purposely faked numbers.

Ps. If you are in the market for a phone with a long lasting battery, focus on the battery capacity(except for Iphones), Display tech as well as the Chipset being used. There are other factors, but these three have the strongest effect on battery life.

Look at Samsung's F and M series chin size. You would think oppo's size is a lot better in real-life
Also this phone's chin size basically says you "upgrade to our more premium model"😅

@@dragonforcegaming7555 look at Samsung's galaxy A51 chin size, much thinner, look at realme and Xiaomi as well they're literally all offering smaller chins around the same price point

Also, The Samsung phone being used here is a 361$ phone while the Oppo Reno 8T(4g not the 5g one) is a 241$ phone. That's a solid 100$ cheaper than Samsung. For that price the chin size is completely acceptable. Look at the Chin size of a similarly priced Samsung A23 5g or A15 5g, they come with a f#cking Notch, big side bezels, poor specs and a bigger chin!

Isn't this just poor battery calibration? If your phone goes for ages on 1% then it means it's draining down to 1% faster which makes you think your battery is lower than it actually is which means you charge more which degrades the battery. I would rather have a phone that drains consistently from 100 to empty so I know what is going to happen.

A pointless sponsored test, unworthy of this channel. A battery gauge is by definition a 'gauge' not a statement of fact. 5% on the Oppo could be 7% on the Samsung, for example. So the 'fact' Oppo starts at 5% means little. This test was arranged by and paid for by Oppo, because they knew the outcome. Unsubscribed.
