- We were thrilled to spend the week with @TheNewbys and show them around our off-grid property in the foothills of the Italian alps. As we continue renovating this stone house into our dream home, we are realizing that we need more help, and it was so great to have The Newbys come hang out with us for both some moral support and to help get some work done!

I love the online presence of TH-camrs getting together like they are so different in how they live their lives. Totally intentional.
My favorite playground as a kid would be sticks, pine cones, small running water, a forest and I could be entertained for hours.

Brady found his Zen!
In my travels around Italy from north to south and east to west, I noticed many many doors that are tall and elegant with glass on top. Just in case you do not win the debate, take a pic of your house and shop it with a tall antique door to be ready to move. Most people living in Italy have found you cannot move officials like in US. I wish you well.

This was AWESOME!!! We've been watching your channel for quite some time now, and the Newby's channel for a little bit longer. Unfortunately I have not taken the time to comment on your channel, until now! This video could not go without comment...!! How awesome to see you all have such a fabulous time together... we learned so much more about you all ! What you guys are doing in Italy is exactly what our dream was for our retirement, however... my husband sustained a sever brain injury in 2018 when he was randomly shot on his way to work very early one morning. The result, he could no longer work as a Network Engineer, or continue working on the 3 Row Homes we were in the middle of restoring here in the USA. He can no longer do much for himself, living in a constant state of confusion, which meant I had to retire to become his full time care person. I was determined to fulfill our retirement dream of retiring in Italy, so last December we closed on a property in a small village in Abruzzo, Italy. We had to purchase an Apartment for my husbands safety, not a small country property as originally desired. At this point, I'm not even sure I will be able to get my husband there permanently, but I will not give up trying. We are going to see our new Italian home for the first time (we purchased it sight unseen, only through video) in late February this year... so I'm excited to see my husbands reaction and make a decision regarding our future from there! We would love to invite you all to spend some time with us in our humble Italian home at some point in the future when we have our home furnished and settled. Thank you so much for sharing your lives with everyone on TH-cam... which we look forward to every week, along with the Newby's... I am so envious of your beautiful property, but thankful to be able to share the experiences of your property restoration and life in the Italian Alps. Much love to you all. Sheryl and Jeff xxxx

@@lauratohome thank you. I’ve often thought about documenting our story, I’m just not sure how I could film and keep my husband in check at the same time. I’m still considering it though, and my efforts would be to encourage others in a similar situation … thank you again, I appreciate your encouragement.
At the beach. I made a Beach. I took a piece of drift wood. Made a Bench, some Chainsaw required. With Angle Iron, a front wheel, with rim, no tire. Rotates 360° front & back. Grand Kids Loved It!
Not a Beach, but out that moved forward & backwards. Kinda like a Rocking Chair, but not a Hammock. Just saying You need both...❤❤❤😊
This is sooo amazing for the kiddoz to be a part of and grow up in!!! I'm a Mama of 8, yes I had 8 kiddoz, all adults now that have given me 9 wonderful grandkiddoz!!! I with I could of raised my kiddoz like this!!! Just an AMAZINGLY WONDER Experience!!! Hugz

I have known for many yrs. how good a protector donkeys are for other animals. They will kill a coyote and will not leave the dead animal in the yard. He will throw it over the fence. But…. On the other side they can be dangerous too. I did not realize just how dangerous. I read some things posted on line. One lady lost her leg and arm. So your decision to rehome Stella was a very positive decision. Your family is most important. I applauded your decision. Enjoy your family videos. Glad you don’t have music in background.

A friend of mine restored an old house in Wales. She was required to enlarge windows but the result was that there was reduced wall to absorb the wet weather that Wales is renowned for and therefore being able to 'breath'. She had huge dampness problems as a result. I'd go for velux type roof lights and/or sun-pipes too. Glad to have found your channel.

This video was so much fun! I have been watching the Newbys and recently started watching your videos as well. You guys are so fun! I am from Italy but live in Chicago. I love the Alps and I think your property is spectacular! I hope you will get to design the house how you want to. Italy sure is known for its challenging bureaucracy. My family and I are moving to Portugal soon and I hope we will get to meet one day, either in Italy or Portugal 😊

Raise the doors to a standard modern building code height is not too much to ask. Propose meeting them halfway on height and add opening and closing ceiling skylights in the roof, at least for upstairs..

This was a wonderful video! The Newby’s are such a darling family. It was such a fun video seeing you all working on projects, and the fellowship you shared.
I had so much fun with all of you, thank you for bringing big smiles onto my face (good for the immune system too, as I would never ever consider jumping into cold water). That Idea with the tall doors is more than ridiculous, the facade would be completely out of proportions, so fight for a nicer solution, good luck! (and of course know their beautiful channel and I am a bit jealous of Tara's home place in Tansania which reminds me of my childhood in Southern Brazil)! BTW In Austria and in Southern Germany, not too far from Milano, one of the most cherished meals is Kaiserschmarrn: pulled pancakes, usually with soft soaked raisins. My kiddos still love them despite being I their 20ies. I didn't find your pancakes "wrong", it was just a more local dish than you were planning, of course a bit different from the America pancakes.

Great to meet you guys through The Newbys, that was so much fun, I loved the quiz and you really are completely bonkers getting in that pool! We will watch with interest to see how your beautiful property develops. It was interesting to hear about your troubles with the planners, the paperwork side of things was one of the things that put us off Italy. We managed to get planning here by finding a local architect who was connected at the town hall, maybe that's an option for you?

Or, how about retrofitting a second inner door that is made of glass? Then you could close the wooden door over it for the authentic look, but when you are in the house leave the wooden door open and the glass door closed.
BRILLIANT!! ...It is what I have done with my front door to get more light into my living room which faces west ...no southern exposure.

Italy is fabulous and I have property for sale there if anyone is interested. I'm not an estate agent ,but just someone that inherited from my grandparents. I can't wait to see you guys finally move in. I've recently subscribed to the couple living in Portugal and am utterly amazed by the amount of work that they have done in 9 months. In some renos I have seen in the UK (on TV) they put skylights through the roof. It admits light to the top story and the lower story can receive extra light through light wells or putting translucent panels in the floor. That means that the super-thick rock walls can be left alone and the facades are unchanged.
Such an excellent idea! A larger skylight on the roof planned over a stairwell that would join the floors in providing extra lighting ...for BOTH floors! Then LARGE MIRRORS on either side of the stairwell at the bottom (and the top of the stairwell too) would add even more light!!

Suggestion for the play ground: a pole frame with knotted ropes for climbing and a see-saw.
The two of you need a 4X4 pickup truck!
...and Tetherball poles are very cheap and you can just screw them into the ground with the new style ones! I had hours of inexpensive fun after school playing Tetherball with my friends in Java, Indonesia. It, along with ping pong and badminton are cheap sports and very popular there. And soccer of course! Inexpensive to get started.

I'm so glad you got the fence done for the girls. As a mom in the USA I remember when we got ours done and I could let the boys loose in the backyard with our dog. Such a feeling of relief! and great job on the monkey bars! Keep us updated on the windows😀
