    I would also take a poncho liner that way you have something to cover up with, just wrap it in bivy cover. Learned something new today from your video, great job.

      thank you for your service. I did not know that. thank you for letting me know . I did not serve but have the ut most respect for those that have . I have close friends that are family that did serve . and by no means want anyone to think I am trying to be someone that did . I'm just a guy who has a lot of experience in the woods and has lived a hard life. and I see how our great country is going down the tubes and want to share to prepare people. thank you for subscribing . its huge to me.

    Enjoyed this video muchly! Had completely forgotten the two techniques of constructing a freestanding cover with saplings and a hammock from a tarp. So thank you for your demonstration here. And from a farmer to a survivalist I can say you were not wrong in differentiating straw from hay. Because straw is actually the cut shaft of the wheat. And hay is a crop of mixed grasses. So you were correct in mentioning them as separate insulation options.👍

    I used to use saplings or branches like that before but then I found a guy on TH-cam that told me I could get actual tent poles to use instead of the sticks he provided a link on Amazon and now I just carry those little suckers around. They don't weigh hardly anything. I made a little bag they slip into on the bottom of my have her sack and I hardly even know they're there
    I love my military Sleep System too. It is a little big and bulky to use sometimes. But I have an extra military tarp I can use instead and I put a wool blanket inside of it like you do a cowboy Sleep System. I would use my woobie but it's so old it's as bad as good as a bed sheet anymore😅😅😅.

    • @brookofcherith
      @brookofcherith  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      thank you for your input. yes I use tent poles also. and love my sleep system. but ounces equal pounds and pounds equal pain. I am a minimalist the older I get lol. the wool blanket is always a winner... thank you for your knowledge. god bless you

      @@brookofcherith I'm thinking of getting one of those little Yuppie carts you attached to your belt and has two bicycle wheels on it then I don't have to carry anything. I'll probably just end up trying to make my own they want too much for those things. You're right if you're cranking out miles you want a lighter load. However hikers today are ridiculous I've seen a lot of them on here and they brag about trying to make 40 Mi a day and stuff Old Timers used to only do an average of 10. But those were the Explorers. They Carried all kinds of weight

      @@gijr2003 correct, now several companies are making a two-wheeled cart. Some of them have frames but I've seen a couple that don't they just have really rigid material. Unfortunately the price range is around 400 to $500.
      I'm not quite ready to spend that especially considering I could make one myself pretty easily. I mean all these other companies have pictures of their products out there. They are pretty easy to replicate. And make something that works

    Good video!! Never thought of doing that with my poncho, though I have done it with my tarp. I've always used a 7x9 tarp and it worked great. But almost 2 years ago, I up graded to a DD 3mx3m. As a local truck driver with a range of about 200 miles, my GHB, is my EDC. And you will find the same 3 things in my bag as well. I have had a comment on this video about my poncho set up that one of you staighted that it looked like a alpha tent.
