I have some garment-tanned beaver pelts (real fur). I plan to make a muff to wear when sitting in a treestand deer hunting. Thanks for sharing. I looked at other videos on muff making and I have to say you were the easiest to understand for a non-sewing mountainman. Thanks.
I've been looking at 1940's muff handbags all day and was SO happy to see you had a muff tutorial ... I should have come to your channel first. Thanks for the step-by-step as I feel more confident to design my own muff/handbag. I adore your channel! :)
I was so excited to see this instruction video! My granddaughter is nine, and since she can talk she's been bugging me for a muff! She will be one of the sisters from Little Women for Halloween this year, and of course, she needs a muff! I plan on putting it together tomorrow and surprising her on Halloween! Thanks for what looks like an easy process after your thorough video! (Chicago girl here, too!).
Great video! I had a muff when I was a little girl and will be making these today for my 3 granddaughters. I am an experienced sewer but it's great to find a video like this which makes the project so simple. Thank You!
Thank you. Looks good. I love bringing back old things that work. I like the slippery ness of the satin but I was thinking about flannel but that might get kind of grubby despite being warm.
I found this tutorial from Brittany of VaVoom Vintage. This is so adorable, and perfect for my trip to Great Lakes, IL in February for my older son's graduation from Navy boot camp! As a sufferer of DeQuerven's Syndrome, and having bilateral surgery on my thumbs and wrist's, I was totally feeling for you on the loss of use of your left thumb! I felt like ET for weeks! I think you are positively beautiful, and an inspiration! Thank you for your fabulous tutorials!
Lovely. I too had a muff when I was little. It was my favorite and it came with a pretty cord around my neck so I didn't lose it. I just finished sewing a beautiful white faux fur jacket for my granddaughter and wanted to make a muff to match. Your video is easy to follow. Thank you for posting this.
Thanks so much the husband and I are planning a Christmas get away to the city. I think faux fir is in now. I think this little thing will be perfect for winter.
Update. Wish I could post a photo, it turned out lovely. I used a 10" x 15" newspaper pattern, the same faux fur you used (but mine was white), lightweight white sweatshirt material for the inside, and 5 cut sheets of 'Warm & White" cotton batting from Joann Fabrics. I also attached an inside pocket before assembling the muff. This is a birthday gift for my 4-year-old granddaughter. The muff is the icing on the cake for the matching jacket I made last week. Thank you for this excellent instructional video. (Hats off to you for doing this with a cast on your lower arm and hand!)
Your vids are very fun and clear to watch....it's great that I don't have to watch the sewing part. I've never been able to REALLY see and I would hope that one would know how to do the sewing part. Definitely going to be a subscriber!
I can't wait to go to Joann's tomorrow and try to find fabric to make this for my granddaughter. I may check the thrift stores for a fur or faux fur coat or jacket to cut up. I think I might use a very soft flannel for the lining since this would be for my little granddaughter. Thank you for this tutorial.
Thank you for this great tutorial! I had to make one of these for my daughters "Christmas Caroler's" group...it turned out great based on you step-by-step directions! :)
I bought material wanting to make this and cut out the first piece when i realized i had no idea how to do it, lol. I youtubed it and followed each step...it was so easy!! It looks AWESOME!! Used white "fur" and cream satin inside but no strap:) thanks for being so thorough!
Thanks for the tutorial, I've thought of making one of these before but never got around to it. I'm always in favor of giveaways, and this would be a real nice one.
Cute tutorial! I wish it got cold enough to where I would need one of these :( The downfall of living in a desert. Cant wait to see what you come up with next!
Love this too! Well, I've already established I love all your vids! Would love to see a video when you are dressed up and showing off your new hand muff!! I am SEW going to make this :)
I've been making hunting Matt's for years, they have not turned out as nice as yours. Great video, thank you so much for sharing, my men and grandchildren will be very happy with your version. I have always added a large pocket, it adds more options you young and old,could you add pockets to your audiences, they would enjoy the extra hidden pockets very much. Thank You for the video🎆.
@pompsnpincurls Thanks! I literally based the idea for this on a hand muff I had when I was a little girl. Soooo...I can't say with 100% certainty that all have cords. I tend to be forgetful sometimes so it helps me not lose it! :D
Chantelle Mobberley Technically you could add the padding in at that point, it's just much harder to slide the filling in when it's in a circular shape. :D
@Allthingsfluffy Thanks Doll! :D LOL...I'm so used to the sirens that I didn't even notice that when I was editing! Not a bad neighborhood, I just live on a very busy and main street. The "fur" wasn't too bad to work with, the satin on the other hand...grrr.
I believe it was somewhere around 36 inches, it'll vary based on the height and size of the person which is why I draped it around my neck then then cut it.
I would use the same material as the lining and actually make it an overlapping pocket (so that your things don't fall out). Perhaps I'll have to look into doing an updated video. ;) lol
At about the ten minute mark, your cat entered the picture and it looked like his tail was coming out of your own hiney. I couldn't concenttrate after that for laughing.
That will look so fabulous for a winter wedding, which congratulations! :D It's an easy project...perfect for a beginner sewer! Let me know if you have any questions!
im having a wedding on December 27 2013 and my colors are silver and turquoise blue well instead of flowers for my girls I decided to do muffs but have no idea how to sew lol...
I would just drape the cord around you neck and let it dangle to determine how long you want it to be. Depending on height and where you want the muff to hang changes the length you'll need.
😫 I almost snagged a faux fur remnant this weekend, but I was like "what would I use it for??" This. I would use it for this I think it would be cool if you did an updated version of this tutorial (you can't see me, but the face I'm making is called Eyebrow Waggle 😁) Okay. Naptime for this weirdo...

I think every little girl needs a muff for the winter! Makes one feel like a princess
Enjoyed this, I like all the details you shared!

Will be great for my mom, who is in wheelchair. Should still be enough time to get it done before X-Mas!
It would be perfect for her and its definitely a quick sewing project. ❤️

@pompsnpincurls Thanks! I literally based the idea for this on a hand muff I had when I was a little girl. Soooo...I can't say with 100% certainty that all have cords. I tend to be forgetful sometimes so it helps me not lose it! :D
What a cool idea . I have to try this .Really pretty :)

Chantelle Mobberley Technically you could add the padding in at that point, it's just much harder to slide the filling in when it's in a circular shape. :D

Love it!!
@b1sofaspud Thanks! :D I love projects that can be done in a day!
I love this video.
Love your video!!! This is so adorable looking!!! How long did you cut your cord? Thanks
I believe it was somewhere around 36 inches, it'll vary based on the height and size of the person which is why I draped it around my neck then then cut it.
@PixieVintage
Thanks! :D
@whozdhers
Thanks! It feels so luxurious too! It's almost enough for me to wish for true winter weather...almost! :D
Can't to try this. How would you sew a pocket in the lineing? For keys or cell phone and such.
I would use the same material as the lining and actually make it an overlapping pocket (so that your things don't fall out). Perhaps I'll have to look into doing an updated video. ;) lol
maybe a zipper pocket on the inside for wallet and phone. No need for a purce ☺
Great idea! :D
This is such a good idea!!!!!
My mother had one with the zipper pocket and today I am making one for myself like she used to had .
:D lol You have read my mind...a video very much like that is in the works! :D I'd love to hear how it works out for you!
Thanks! You should...it's so fun! :D
Thanks! :D LOL...indeed, I may have the only muff tutorial on YT (I really struggled with that name, but it's what we call them here).
At about the ten minute mark, your cat entered the picture and it looked like his tail was coming out of your own hiney. I couldn't concenttrate after that for laughing.
Gah ha ha...I never noticed that before...I'm dying!
That will look so fabulous for a winter wedding, which congratulations! :D It's an easy project...perfect for a beginner sewer! Let me know if you have any questions!
Yes I will have a bash at that Chris In the UK X
tee hee hee! :D
@JustAnotherLevel Ahhh nuggets! I'll just have to come up with a cute little sewing crafty thing for my warm weather peeps! :D
im having a wedding on December 27 2013 and my colors are silver and turquoise blue well instead of flowers for my girls I decided to do muffs but have no idea how to sew lol...
Awesome! :D
Which length does the cord have please?
I would just drape the cord around you neck and let it dangle to determine how long you want it to be. Depending on height and where you want the muff to hang changes the length you'll need.
Thank you, yes the idea is good. That's how I'm gonna do it. best regards
@Allthingsfluffy
LOL...you crack me up!
Love this. I put a pocket in mine so I don't have to carry my purse as well. :)
USAtexasforever That! Is Genius!!!! ;D
😫
I almost snagged a faux fur remnant this weekend, but I was like "what would I use it for??"
This. I would use it for this
I think it would be cool if you did an updated version of this tutorial (you can't see me, but the face I'm making is called Eyebrow Waggle 😁)
Okay. Naptime for this weirdo...
This is a reminder to always snag the faux fur remnant! ;D I see you eyebrow waggle and I'm strongly considering it. lol ❤️
A zip might have been good for the pocket too
Great idea! :D
@bobotkc
What a great idea! :D
Why did you not sew 3 sides that wold have made the final step easier
Because the ends need to be sewn to each other for form the "tube".
