- In this video I go through my method of using the X-rite colour checker passport to get perfect colour in my food and portrait photographs.
This video is in no way endorsed by the company nor is it a paid advert.
The X-rite colour checker is the single most valuable purchase that I have ever made when trying to achieve accurate colours. I don't think that I could live without mine and I wont ever take a pic of food again without using it.

Actually seeing it work makes me realise how important it actually is.
Completely agree with this. If I may add, uniform illumination when shooting the colorchecker is important. You can mess this part up. I know I did initially. Now I have two studio flashes with soft boxes so this part is quite reliable.
Very helpful, thank you. Bring back some of these "How you do it" videos
1. how come NO ONE and I mean NO ONE ANYWHERE explain what EACH panel of the checker is four? 2. There are TWO grays a 12% gray and 18%...WHY?? Please make a video explaining and using each page of the colorchecker passport 2...PLEASE?
hey, yes I can make one on that.
Lots of great content in this one.
Very helpful - thanks Scott
Great advice, Thanks!
Great video Scott. They are great, just used mine to WB and correct colour on a video I have shot this evening. Apparently you are suppose to replace them after 2 years due to oils or contamination on the pallets. Checked the date on mine and is says 2014. Whoops
@@TinHouseStudioUK They have a video specific one but using the grey card side of the one we have is enough to pick wb off as a starting point. Not sure if the video one has different software though.
Nice one. X-rite and Capture One don't play together as easily, it would seem.
@@TinHouseStudioUK I think they have sorted this with the Colour checker V2 or it's software. I think it was in this video where they covered it. th-cam.com/video/gMGpBDnhCyM/w-d-xo.html
Yeah I like the video version as well and it's on my wishlist. Speaking of versions it bothers me that they have one for photos and another for video...ugh double the high price for a swatch.
I knew it was important, but I was not prepared for the instant difference it would make.

Can i take a Photo of the Color Chart while Setting Up a Custom White Balance directly in my Camera? Should also work, doesn´t it?
Really enjoying your videos and honest frank delivery. Is this process applicable to Capture One or is it only possible to do in Lightroom? Thanks
@@TinHouseStudioUK Nice one, looking forward to it and Lightroom will work just fine for now.
Pound for pound my most important gear.
What’s your audio process? It sounds crunchy. Are you clipping?
Are you compressing or doing -16 LUFS?
@@TinHouseStudioUK Here's a nice workflow. th-cam.com/video/GVovXsbCjjU/w-d-xo.html I'm still trying to solidify my workflow since I don't rent adobe stuff.
will this work for me even if my work flow is bridge, camera raw and photoshop? I dont use lightroom.
the answer is yes by the way :)
I forget, so i shoot my color checker first
