I don't care if I have work tomorrow. This review was worth it. And I have also watched kakarot197's review of this kit. I like both, each for different reasons. I admire the shine, but I don't think this kit would be a good fit for my household. Shiny gold is bait for small children. Wouldn't mind a shiki 2.0 on my shelf eventually, though. Oh, and the chest vents are electro plated deep orange gold. Nice.
@@Matanumi that just saves build time for details no one will see. As I get toward more painting I'm liking Full Mechanics more than MG. If you make a display piece the gimmicks are less important
Personal experience with MG gold kits (Hiaku Shiki and Hyper mode G Gundam kits) have shown me its better to paint the metallic coating yourself (if you know what you are doing) since these kits aren’t exactly engineered the reduced damage to the electroplating when clipping the pieces off the molding trees.
Great review! Just one side note (i have one of these) the bracket on the left side of the rifle can attach it to the side skirts for storage. Also other comments are right, we need an RG/MG akatsuki!

It’s fun how they used the MG striker joint instead of the NG one, but it’d be nice if a *real* MG Akatsuki were released; a conversion kit came out a while back. I think the Build Strike ‘based’ from this kit, the packs are extremely similar.
It actually still looks good now. The sleek proportions and the shiny colors that somewhat hide the lack of panel details (compared to modern Seed kits) results in this kit not looking as outdated as it lol.

Got it kit 2yr ago, didnt regret. Loved it. Hated this shiranui pack only. Dragoons nvr stay on it. Still. Loved it. Oowashi pack is really good. I need a rg of this. Ill dump my money on it.
Putting Cagalli in that thing was a horrible waste of time. Only one person can master a suit this pimp and that was Mu "that mofo makes the impossible possible" La Flaga; the best not-Sleggar Law ever.

Tbh, I prefer the gold plating on the MG Hyaku-Shiki 2.0 compared to the ultra shiny gold plating used in most gold plated gunpla kits, and I wish Bandai would use that more often. The tendency of the ultra shiny gold plating is that it often drowns the silhouette of the MS whick makes the details of the kit quite hard to distinguish
@@titan133760 I do agree with the details being drowned but personally think it should also match the source material, Hyaku 2.0's duller gold paint matches the onscreen depiction and. Akatsuki's gold is clearly plated in the anime so making it the matte gold like the Dragon Momoko version would be wrong (or with the Unicorn's V fin, it should be yellow yet the PG also has the gold finish).
I have the HG 1/144 of this thing and man it was amazing to put together. My only gripe is the amount of paint you have to use in the shoulders, beam sabers and shield compared to this 1/100. Funny enough I think the beam sabers was done better in the HG due to having two individual ones and the double.
IMO, the Akatsuki is the original GAT-X104 prototype that Orb had salvaged from Heliopolis. If you look at the GAT-04 Windam, it has the same legs&and main body design. The GAT-X104 is probably a dedicated Flight MS like the Windam, it's obvious that the upper body was upgraded so that it's compatible for the Striker Packs. Anyway if you can get your hands on the Dragon Momoko Akatsuki, it's actually a Strike RM KO&looks better than the typical MG Strike from Bandai.
@Jabman025, Will you ever consider reviewing the Dragon Momoko version of this Akatsuki Gundam? I heard it’s a solid kit for a Thirdparty/bootleg and it mirrors this hg, but with mg characteristics.
Pretty sure I’m gonna end up getting this one over the MG just due to the amount of gold on that finish. It’s so gorgeous- this finish is so much more anime accurate. Color over details for this one lol

Akatsuki is a nice looking design. I just don't like it in the story. Seed Destiny ripped off so much from the Original Series and Zeta. So this is just Hyakushiki with a less quality pilot. Love your reviews, Jabman!
You can put a backorder in at hlj.com (which basically puts you on a list for whenever it gets reissued) It can take a long time but if theres no hurry and you dont want to overpay its probably your best option :)
I think we'll get a new coming of the Destiny suits in a few years. Bandai's probably been grinding to complete the SEED line first. We're even getting an MG Ginn and 1/00 Calamity.

I really enjoyed this kit when I built it. For a no grade, the under gating and the plating set it high on my favorites list

don't top coat these gold kit..........it doesn't really help and in some cases will make it worse
