The 10th edition of High West’s sought-after limited release A Midwinter Night’s Dram takes High West’s flagship Rendezvous Rye and finishes it in a combination of ruby and tawny port barrels. In honor of the 10th anniversary of A Midwinter Night’s Dram, High West is also releasing this limited edition as a distillery exclusive. The Encore likewise uses Rendezvous Rye as its base, with the blend of rye whiskeys receiving a finish in white port barrels. Both are priced at $150 bucks.

At $150 I may sit this one out. I bunkered a few Act 9s last year, so I'll just crack open one of those. Price increases are motivating me to simply start enjoying my collection for a while and stay out of the shops for a bit of time.

Actually walked into Total Wine in Pasadena, Ca a few days ago and they had Act 10 sitting there for $135. Yes, I bought one. It’s a perfect Halloween to Xmas dram for me. Holidays in a glass.
Perhaps it was there to provide some tonic for the Dodger fans and their 111 and done season.

I live in Utah at the distillery Act 10 was $125, Encore was $150. Not a big difference but figured i'd let ya know. Great videos as always.

This past Monday, it was priced at $160 at Binny's.
Honestly I got my hands on act 10 scene 1 and I have to say this years release is one of the best.
I just bought a bottle haven't opened it yet had it at a bar was sipping it for 2 hours incredible stuff
Just cracked a act 10 scene 6 and I'm loving it. Lotta dark fruits some blueberry also with the right touch of rye spice and pepper. And the mouth feel and finish are both incredible.
After years of disappointment in trying to find one of these, I put my name on every waiting list and got the call today! 179 so about 200 with tax but I'm so excited to have this bottle to warm all the winter nights! Fingers crossed as I hope it's worth the hype. Umbasa!!!
Man I can’t wait for mwnd. It’s a favorite bottle for me and it’s the single reason I started bourbon hunting.
A couple FYI points, the MSRP for the Act 10 is actually $125, and the Encore is $150. Also, you mentioned the "Act" and "Scene" on the bottle. This is the 10th annual release, so it is Act 10. As far as the Scene goes, High West cant bottle everything in a single day, so it takes them a few days to get everything bottled. The Scene number on the bottle notes which day they filled that particular bottle, so you have one that was bottled on the 4th day. There should not be any difference between scenes in any given year.
Don't know about that. In Illinois this bottle is selling at MSRP for $160
@@davidvoth7218 In your state, they may be marking up this bottle slightly. But being from Utah and having bought both of these at the distillery on release day, I can assure you, these are the correct MSRP prices.

SRP is 150 nationwide and 125 Utah only for Act 10.
Just snagged an Act 10 for 128. Can’t tell if I like it yet due to a stupid cold. Looking forward to trying it now.

Was act 10 finished in French oak port barrels it just says port barrels unlike the previous releases

Yep. That’s just crazy-talk. Companies will claim that they are just keeping up with the market, but that’s BS. This is a price gouge, plain & simple.
It will never happen, but it would be nice to see this just sit on the shelf . High west isn't the spirit they've trying to make their product out to be..
I'm actually kind of leaning away from bourbon and moving towards armagnac and Scotch for this very reason. Overpriced, overpriced, overpriced.
Port/Madeira finished rye is likely the best combo of finished America whiskey
Picked up Act 10 today in store for $145. Wouldn't normally do this but never had any of these before. I want to save the bottle but I want to drink it too!
Never seen a Midwinter’s, so I’m going to pretend my Bourbon Junkie pick of Starlight rye finished in port is just as good.
Bought 2 bottles of the reg 10 today 99 a pop in Cali :) Encore here was going for 500 pop on Secondary which is insane, they got 4 bottles of it and it sold within an 30 mins at that price lol
Completely agree with the YIN/YANG comment.. these are both so festive and great but in completely different ways.. I said if the regular is Christmas whiskey.. this is like thanksgiving/sitting at a fire at an apple orchard wearing flannel and a vest whiskey… I think they knocked it out of the park with encore
I went to try the Encore at the distillery since they were sold out of bottles. and I totally agree it was almost like a really good champagne Rye blend? lol that's the best way to put it, tons of green apple and pears with that really nice vanilla cinnamon but the OG Dram is my preferred taste with that like candied chestnuts/hazelnuts cinnamon mulled wine is just fantastic. That's how my Act 9 was atleast
I just picked up 10 act 4 from TW in Jensen beach Florida for $100.
Favorite available finished rye is Seagrass but my favorite I've ever had (so far) is a Starlight honey finished rye that my local group picked.
I love seagrass but it's a complete 180 from MWND flavor wise.
@@FifthQuarterTailgate MWND has always been a more straight forward "Christmas in a glass" rye. Seagrass is what rye would taste like after Willy Wonka finished a rye made by Oompa Loompas.

Looking forward to finding An act10 here in pa and doing a review. I gotta compare it to Sagamore though as they are tops of the rye game to me

my local store has 3 different versions. but they are 130$ each. i didn't look much more at them after i saw the price.

I just finished the Act 8. I found it much to flowery to be honest. That is why it took two years for me to finish the bottle. I might give these a try if I can find them.

walked into total wine and saw people quickly leaving the bourbon isle like they stole the bottle they were carrying. of course i went and looked and saw what it was and grabbed a bottle of midwinter for $125.

Encore II, Do It
I agree that finished Rye’s are better than finished Bourbon. Even mixing 90% Wild Turkey 101 Rye with 10% cream sherry is outstanding.
I'll stick with Sagamore finished products vs. overpaying for a fine, but not exceptional rye at $150.

I was there in line. 125 for act 10 and 150 for the encore. Act ten went up 25 this year and the encore was a bit a pinch in the wallet. I just cracked both of my earlier this week. The Encore just barely edged out Act 10. I really enjoyed them both. It was worth the trip and experience with friends.
How the hell is that $150? There's going to be a 110,000 bottles nation wide!

Because blinds are so incredibly difficult, you should throw that encore into your port challenge. Great video, another bottle way outside my price range, but my do I want a bottle of this
How would you rate the Act 10 to Act 9?
Personally I like the 10 because of the spice factor. The nine has a bit more of those dark fruit flavors.
