Imagine the average rock star of the 70s most had no post secondary education, no business education or experience. Just four guys with instruments. Then comes the gigs, and with the money and fame, comes the managers, business managers, accountants, lawyers, and the tax man with everyone wanting their share, and having a say on where your money should go, then you pay the band, the hotel bills, the booze, then the coke, groupies strippers, and then travel bills, add on ex wives, girlfriends, lawsuites, more lawyers, and more ex wives, and then bang....your working at mcdonalds or burger king.....fucking insane world..

tommy bear bear didn't mention the record companies, which generated all non-tour revenues to be dispersed as mentioned above. The Stones and Beatles were both initially famously ripped off, with varying degrees of fault vs. blame falling on their respective managers.
But hey- You gotta start somewhere, eh?
As a result, both bands formed their own record companies, Rolling Stone Records and Apple, and although they met with varying degrees of success, they generally helped the artists enjoy a larger slice of the fruits of their labors in the long run.
The Beatles saw a relatively small piece of their action as a band, with their solo careers and various investments contributing to securing their respective long term security .

*tommy bear bear* ___ Sensible observation, but not _that_ many mega stars left such a lousy legacy for their bloodrelatives to sort out....Being ripped off was part of the deal for even The Stones, but not to the extent Bolan let things get out of hand...I like the pre 73 guy no end, but he had some serious character flaws..The way he pooped on his past associates and supporters is totally out of order.... The way he believed his own hype...Most showbuisiness people know it's all a cynical joke....It's so fucking sad, that this rollcall of disasters takes away much of my enjoyment of his work...like..now when I hear those great tracks, the inevitable thought drifts up ..."damn, the dude was such a naive selfobsessed twat anyway"....
Being hip to the scam early on , I switched off after '73..Never liked his cheekes sucked in,duck face bopping imp, cock rock strutting....Just like one of his early champions John Peel said, "he simply wasn't very good at it". While Bowie moved on, Marc kept chasing the wet panty brigade....."Shitter Bug Boogie" more like....

I remember sitting in front of the stereo with the Electric Warrior album & singing along to the songs ( as the words to the songs were on the back of the album), I loved every single song on that album. clarkewi Get it On was released in July 1971, so it wasn’t 1970, that I’m very certain of as a huge T.Rex fan. Norman Greenbaums ‘ Spirit in the Sky ‘ was Number 1 in 1970, the only hit T.Rex had in 1970 and released in the October was Ride a White Swan which stalled at Number 2 going into early 1971. The first Single release of 1971 for T.Rex was Hot Love, which became the Groups first of 4 Number 1s.

@susan brown - Marc probably would have burned through the money even faster if he had "managed" it himself. He said in that interview clip they showed that he was no businessman. He needed much better, more objective advice than he got, though. He needed 2nd and 3rd opinions and references from actual clients - that sort of thing, not taken the advice of people who had lots to gain from him.

Poor June. The situation she was put in, not only by Mark, but even worse, the inland revenue was absolutely horrendous.
June was there when there was nothing but a belief in Mark's talent, when they went to a friend's flat for a once a week bath.
Outrageous. If a couple is in a business relationship as well as personal, some kind of legal documents should be drawn up to take care of the different parties.
When emotions are involved, even the best people can behave very badly. I have been on the receiving end of it, and seen others treat each other like crap.
I am happier than I have ever been, I gave up all my financial rights, and was bitter and hurt for a while, more from the principle, that my ex could treat anyone that way, not providing for our daughters, but they are both hardworking, and both sides of the family stepped up when they were younger. The happiness in my life, to feel the way I do now, is priceless.
Now I have no money, have an amazing job that gives me so much pleasure, but on the journey, I learned that money gives one freedom to do things to make our community better, to help those who can't afford to help themselves, and travel.
I have been wealthy and poor, the peace of mind I now experience is priceless and exciting.

His brother went to ID his body and by then the house was already raided and everything mostly stolen. I remember in a interview Marc said he had crates and crates of writings and poetry he wanted to eventually have made into books. I personally believe someone wanted Marc dead. I think he was brilliant and so what if he had an ego....he was only 29 and Im sure the pressure of touring and then a new son was alot for him. June loved him I do believe until the day she died. June was so much better for Marc, she was able to help keep him on the right path and helped his career take off. He also said she's the only person who had a brain similar to his so I feel like they were eachother's equal (here's the interview he mentioned said that about June: th-cam.com/video/i9qmWK695-4/w-d-xo.html)
When with gloria the decline in his career started and I just don't trust what she says, Marc or June isn't here to tell their side of the story.
Also June said in an interview once that she thought she and Marc would've got back together had it not been for his death. She said that in June of 1977 they were both at the same event with their own group of friends but just as he was about to leave he asked her to go with him and they spent the day together while goria was away in America. She also said Marc was unhappy with gloria. Marc also told June "if you hadn't have left, none of this would've happened". (Here's the interview she mentioned about her and Marc getting back together: th-cam.com/video/APYOCZ8zX-I/w-d-xo.html)
I think Marc didn't finalise his divorce from June because he still loved her.

I'm trying to figure out how Marc was able to absolve June's 40% in their record company against her wishes. Did I miss something? They were still legally married he essentially abandoned her and was still earning millions.

*@Tarn Sand* __Indeed.......How can *that* be ? It's totally unbelievable ....either June was (at that time) a lost (junky) cause herself and was bullied out of it , and robbed.....How can one lose a stake in one's own company just like that ? ......A prime example how fucked up that whole scene around our bopping imp was....Which is no surprise ,knowing his character and the ridiculous mid 70's pictures where he acts the (overweight) diva...he must've been easy to con out of his wealth......how brilliant an artist he was , he had some serious character issues....that whole "Born To Boogie" circus concocted by Beatle Ringo , was the writing on the wall......we see there a guy who totally believes all the hype and thinks he owns the world ,while "T-Rextacy" never went beyond UK borders.....apart from the one major world hit "Get It On" he was a struggling one hit wonder everywhere else....As soon as Marc set foot on airports outside the U.K. there were no Beatle or Rolling Stones scenes ; there's that film clip where a paparazzi spotted him on some deserted German airport ,Marc couldn't contain his glee ,and did the whole diva "star" trip...
      I mean......how far gone he must've been ?

PaulLonden obviously ignorant on how big he was in Europe, Japan & Australia......the same hysteria as in the U.K. in those places too.
America didn’t happen agreed, but to say he was a a One Hit Wonder everywhere else is totally out of order and very wrong factually.
A huge Star from 71-73 in the UK, Europe, Japan & Australia fact!!
The Airport scenario you claim to know about is absolute bull too, for those years I’ve mentioned above, there was a huge following wherever T.Rex played, but not in America.

@@ilovesmysangsomsangsom3500 remember them being huge in America for about 3 years. I saw them twice in NYC and they were great! Don't know where you're getting your information from. I do remember, around the time he started performing with the back-up singers, was kind of the beginning of America's love affair with Trex. When Tanx came out, it did not sell well, at all. I had been a fan since the old days of Tyrannosaurus Rex, loved the sound. Loved the 'new' sound, too! I really wanted to move to GB so bad back then. But, I was still a minor. 😍
