      especially when each game isn't any different, only thing changed over the years is you can pass, dodge and shoot with analog stick instead of pressing a button. Seriously no new entry is different why do people keep buying these year after year? just for new roster you're paying 60 dollars just for updated roster what fucken joke

      I'd love to be in the meeting where they discussed adding him in.
      Imagine some manager in a suit, never played a game in his life, saying without a trace of sarcasm, "Orcs are like evil humans, right? When buying loot boxes there should be a really Jewish-looking orc rubbing his hands together greedily because he's looking forward to getting his hands on the fantastic new prizes the player's going to get."
      Everyone with half a brain looks around and wonders if they should laugh because, surely, that's a terrible idea that reflects badly on the company, but no one is. No one is laughing. They're applauding.

      Been trying to find a gif of him so I can just drop it in comments of people defending micro transactions. It's funny because that guy, more than anything else, has kept me vigilant in my commitment to not buy Shadows of War. Every time I think about getting the game anyway I see that little canker rubbing his hands together and it just makes me sick to my stomach. This, in turn, turns me off to the game again.

      I was going to say the same. I'm afraid people exclude sports gamers from the club and turn a blind eye to the antics of 2k and EA sports. While people were shunning pre-order bonuses years ago, no one mentioned that NBA2k was offering an early release as a pre-order bonus. If you didn't pre-order, then you had to wait 4 days to play...

      DaManGaming that's a good point. That is how they can get away with annual releases of the same game. When PC players who bought NBA2K15 were given an awful last generation port that lacked game modes (like the first 2k story mode), they were just told to buy the next one!

    I forever roll my eyes when I hear publishers keep pushing micro-transactions. I'm not fed up of hearing about them doing it, I'm more fed up of them doing it. By all means Jim, carry on ranting against them, because they won't learn any other way, but I think it's time everyone who finds them distasteful all spoke at once, like how a number of people spoke up in one video saying WTFU. I just wish it was more people shouting in unison, rather than ranting with such dischord that it just becomes white noise.
    We've paid you already, give us the game. If you cannot make a game viable on the sales of the game alone, you need to get out the industry.

      I will never get over the corrupt insertion of microtransactions in shadow of war. They put gambling boxes in a lord of the rings game. Then they made a dlc to profit off the death of a colleague, and tried to hide it in the fine print. Before I heard about the gambling boxes, I had a gold level preorder, not so much now. Now I won't pick it up until its in the clearance bin. I will never buy a single gambling box either, obviously. And If I can find a mod to remove the market from the menu, even better.

    Wanna throw this hat into the ring for anyone that may care, but WB is currently having its Facebook paige review bombed over a C&D that served to a fan made emulator of a 17 year old MMO they shut down this past January with no explaination, then refused to even entertain offers for purchase of the IP, this all happening AFTER promises of releasing the game in a way that players could host their own servers for the game (which turned out to be a lie) and to top it, players were sold a life time subscription just before it was shut down.
    The game was called Asheron's Call and was one of the first MMO to hit the market, and I believe the first seemless open world MMO.

    I think one of the biggest issues is that some people just don't get it because it doesn't effect them. Micro-transactions aren't in the game or type of games that they like. Yet... And Jim has said this before, it will happen to every genre if we keep spending money on these toxic business practices. It wasn't even that long ago that saying "One day they'll charge money for armor shaders in a full priced FPS" was laughed off as a hilariously impossible joke . If you are someone complaining about these videos please understand, if it doesn't effect you now, it WILL effect you later, and that is why raising awareness, shaming publishers, and sometimes even boycotting an entire game does matter and will continue to matter until this practice is as taboo as it aught to be.

    Even the term "microtransactions" pisses me off. I'd be totally fine with it if they were like... a buck? Two bucks? Even three or maybe four? Hell, I'd buy a few of those for the games that I truly enjoy and feel as though they've earned my money (aka free games that I put a lot of hours into and have EARNED my money, NOT AAA titles with this shit force into them for extra cash). But $99.99 is NO LONGER "micro" in any way, shape, or form. A "microtransaction" is no longer "micro" when the price is MORE than the base game itself!
    Greedy fucks. *sigh*

    It's to the point that I think steam should add the 'microtransaction' tag to games so you can filter them out of your recommended list. I know it wouldn't solve the problem but it may deter some developers from putting them in if they know their games wont be getting advertised by steam. At the very least it might help keep them out of indie games since that's where they get alot of their publicity.

    Another depressing thought is that most of us that hate micro-transactions are the older generation that have been playing games for YEARS, and now we're no longer the target audience of the big "AAA" publishers, because they know they can target the younger players who swallow it all since they weren't around when none of this bullshit existed.
    2K and the like are just waiting for us to fucking die off, so they can hammer the new audience with the "buy extra shit with real actual money" movement that's been accepted thanks to the large adoption of f2p and mobile shit-fests. For us, the older audience to be able to just buy a finished fucking game like we used to be able to, we have to go to the indie market or invest in some kickstarter project just be able to get a game that's made with passion and to entertain as a memorable experience, that doesn't try and fuck you over for not giving extra money constantly.
    Our favourite hobby is dying. It's being utterly fucking smothered by corporate greed the like of which we've never seen before, and something needs to be done before it gasps it's final breath.

      Ashley the problem is that the games are now designed to make you grind 10x longer to get anything done. Those of us who wish to ignore the microtransactions are still suffering the consequences of this greed, in the way that games are designed fundamentally differently in order to lure the minority into spending the cash.

      It's tough to judge, I played Mass effect 3 multiplayer recently and hacked the shit out of it because no one checks that any more, I hacked it so I get 10-15 times the reward money for a round.
      It was really really fun and rewarding playing a match and getting a decent reward at the end. I still needed to play nearly 70 matches to unlock everything through they loot box system. I could have given myself infinite money and get it all straight away but I wanted to play the game and get rewards. I enjoyed it and got more out of it than just to give myself everything and mess about for an hour and get bored once I've seen everything.
      Loot crates and random rewards CAN be fun, the problem is not the concept but the execution. The in game currency needs to be REASONABLE.

    • @ashleybateson
      @ashleybateson 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      your complaining that the game takes too long, .....its a game if you dont want to play it because thats too hard or too much work then buy a mobile game you can finish in a day....complaining that a game takes too long is ridiculous , you want to finish a game but dont want to put the time into playing clearly you dont really want to play you just want bragging rights...you dont deserve to see the end game if your not willing to actually put the time required into playing it through, just buy a cheat engine........you cry if games are too short and cry if it takes effort to beat so even when companies give you the chance to get the content without playing you cry again because its not fair......its pathetic sure this game takes a long time to beat if you want to complete it it takes a hell of a lot of gameplay, itll last you a long time thats a good thing for anyone who wants a long lasting challenge but you people just want your cake and want to eat it too........game takes too long i cant be bothered putting in effort and time ,,,,so what like everything else in life you need to actually do the work if you want the results but you people just want to be given everything with no effort......you want a game to play then you got it but you dont want to play you dont want to put the time in thats required thats too hard you just want the end result but you want it handed to you without effort. its like cheating at patience, sure youll win but not by playing the game well your just crying because you want the benefits without doing the work......thats not the games fault its you ......this is meant to be a long term option the rewards are meant to be earned not just handed to you you get rewarded for effort for time spent ......you just want the American ."everybody gets a trophy" idea but thats not how life works
      really put in the effort dont just expect it to be handed to you , FFS thats not how life works mate, you want the rewards do the work, you cant be bothered you dont deserve the results you just want everybody to get a trophy for participation thats not realistic thats pathetic. there needs to be a challenge and in this case there is itll take a lot of effort to finish the game lots of time spent doing the work required, you dont get rewarded for being lazy you dont get given a win just because you want it you need to actually do the work
      your not suffering here its a game FFS your not suffering the consequenses you just have to put in some effort and you dont want to......its not fair i have to actually play the game to finish it, your pathetic your not suffering here its a game your not forced to play it till the end its up to you your not suffering you just want to be handed the prize but dont want to do the work.....

      $250 if they had it their way. A fucking $100 microtranaction in a $60 game. It's beyond a joke at this point. I've started waiting for player response on new games, just so I can assess them for shit like this before deciding whether to buy one.

    • @fury5500
      @fury5500 7 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      Exactly, they barely add anything to the game AT ALL. I always thought they should simply just make one game per generation, but gotta make that money from idiots who don't seem to understand how much of a scam buying the latest sports game is.

    • @bioraidos5454
      @bioraidos5454 7 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Aden Nak Only thing that comes to mind are the licences and rights to use the teams, players and stadiums (which don't come off cheap) but even then I don't believe they'd need you to pay 100+ in invasive microtransactions after buying the game to make a profit.

    • @hickey1292
      @hickey1292 7 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      That's how it has always been with sports games. I don't personally get them, but I know people that do are essentially just paying for updated rosters, and maybe some incremental graphical increases and gameplay tweaks if they're lucky. To add such egregious shit to something which is annual, and so formulaic in its construction is downright insulting to the people that loyally pay for those minor improvements year in year out. They're already not paying for a "new" game as such, so to pull this kinda crap comes across as extra galling.

    i used to love new games coming out but now instead of being excited i get sick just thinking about triple A games trying to reach into my pocket for everything. i was kinda ok when dlc and microtranactions where just cosmetic kinda sucked and was a problem but nothing to bad but holy shit now it is becoming a problem where im afraid that in 10 years you will have to pay 10 dollars an hour to play a game its gotten that bad.

    • @MrStath1986
      @MrStath1986 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      This. As Jim points hints, it's depressing that a game like Yakuza Kiwami is now the exception and not the rule; all the more reason to celebrate a game like that, really; no DLC except a handful of *free* cosmetic changes/items, and a complete story that has actually been developed on as a remake of an old, classic game, rather than just a facelift, to the extent the narrative actually makes more sense now than it did back in 2005/6.

      Regulation? No fucking thanks. Don't want preachy fuckers controlling what games should be like.
      When it comes to micro-transactions atleast I don't have to buy them, and if it's that bad, I just won't buy the game to begin with.
      With regulation, it just leads to the strangulation of creativity and storytelling because of whiny or clueless feckers who get offended by everything
      Example:
      Oh no, this game contains violence = banned
      Oh no, this game is questionable sexist! = censored regulation
      Oh no, this game contains swearing = censored/banned
      Oh no this game contains nudity = censored/banned
      ...and so on and so on.
      So no. Slippery Road.

      I'm aware MT cost will rise, but that's the point. If one looks at chart of MT earnings, it's impossible to miss the memo that the corporates won't quit it. Only way to even try combating MTs is to lower cash flow first, THEN and ONLY THEN we can start the fight to get rid of them altogether.
      Right now, corporates interested in some mindfuckery look at X=how much $ will they lose from MT boycotts, and compare it to Y=how much MT $ will flow in. If Y>X, they go for MT, and Y is always greater. Nowadays question isn't "Is it feasible?" anymore, but rather "Am I greedy, children-mindfucking thief?" Some aren't, but not many. And in b4 outrage, you might not consider lootboxes as children / compulsive buyers / gambling addicts targeted mindfuck, but I do, and you can't convince me otherwise.
      Ppl who combat MT typically focus on increasing X, but mama basic math says there's also lowering Y side. And that's where suits come in.
      My stance was always that even most tame MTs (only cosmetics you can grind blah blah blah), will still lower your enjoyment. First, extra grind, second, and even more important, you just can't get the same enjoyment out of easy as out of hard, and out of MT-able as out of easy. That's how our brains are wired.
      Sure, some ppl might dig MT skins, but tell me, what would you enjoy more, a skin you earned through hard achievement, or one bought for 1,99$? And on this point, a minute of silence to honor achievements giving you cool or unique things, because in this dark age of AAA gaming they went extinct.
      Third, even if you don't MT, mere knowledge that there are ppl buying your goal for spare change WILL cheapen your thrill.
      A game with MT will always be less enjoyable than same game without MT. That's why I want them gone, even if that means inviting in incompetent clowns in shit-stained boots.

    As someone who has been a die-hard addict of NBA2K for 6-7 years, I can attest that this year they REALLY overstepped on a lot of the microtransactions, particularly in MyCareer.
    That being said, they did also make improvements in terms of reducing the grinding in MyCareer (that was really bad last year), along with a few others.
    But yeah, hair and stuff like that was free to change in the last iteration, and the rank increases were nowhere near as expensive.
    Kudos for covering this Jim, I thought since this was a sports game it would slide under the radar. =) I still love this game, but they are pulling some bullshit.

  • @LeadSniper
    @LeadSniper 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    finally someone said it... I've been waiting for a relatively large TH-camr to make a video on how bad the microtransactions are....
    I've done a little research on it... and it takes 190K VC in order to become a level 86.... which making 500 VC per game at a c average teammate grade, per game, comes out to 380 games you have to play. NOT including the ridiculous price of clothes, shoes, and tattoos. I have thought about the idea of increasing the amount of VC earned per game to 1500 and multiply it by a percentage regarding teammate grade and difficulty. Every increase in teammate grade like from a C ----> C+ you earn .10 multiplier so if you get a B+ you earn 2100 VC because of your teammate grade... and if you are playing on hall of fame you would earn a 1.90 multiplyer for getting a B+. so in total you would earn 2,850VC. Which is fair considering you still have to spend 190,000 VC in order to become an 86 overall. so on average lets say you earn a B average teammate grade and play on all-star, that means you would earn 1500 x 1.55 = 2,325 which means instead of having to play 380 games you still would have to play 81 games to achieve an 86 overall but it is a much better system in order for players to feel like they are progressing easier and it doesn't make it seem like it's a pay to win game.

      Yup and these characters are used against other people online, It costs around 190k vc to get a player to 85 and you earn less than 1k a game. Myteam is actually much worse some of the 2k youtubers last year spent thousands on packs for a reward card at the end of the year. The pack odds are so bad you could buy the "best value" vc package which only gets you 2 20 pack boxes and you could get nothing good it's robbery. That'sone of the reasons pack opening vids are popular it's a lot easier to watch someone else spend their money.

    • @MrStath1986
      @MrStath1986 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would totally be interested in seeing what he has to say, but I somehow hope/feel he wouldn't be negative and would recognise that as the series has developed and become capable of more, it has done so - the series has ballooned to like, what, five cities as of Yakuza 5, and wisely stripped it down to two for Zero - I would trust Jim to do his research there. I think he'd also recognise that how the city is used is important, too; Kiwami uses mostly the same Kamurocho as Zero, just with the Millennium Tower in place, but the use of Majima, the different/updated side stories, they all help make it feel fresh.

    • @DirtyBoySingToGod
      @DirtyBoySingToGod 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I see your point, as Kamurocho is the main playground for the series, but Jim'd also be wrong if this does turn out to be the case ( me suggesting Jim could be wrong - I think i threw up in my mouth a little there! ). Yakuza has many more areas than just the streets of Kamurocho. Always has. Many (albeit smaller) cities that the game takes place in, especially series entries 4 & 5. It's scope is larger than what the general consensus assumes, i think.
