In this age, Jackson could never be allowed to produce the masterpiece that was LoTR. He tried again with The Hobbit, but rushed production and corporate meddling led to an inferior product.

I thought the Harfoots got interesting in the end, I liked the reckoning they had with how their culture casts aside anyone that is unable to keep up with the Migration.
They weren't evil, they were pragmatic survivalists, so it was nice to see them eventually be more altruistic
I liked the harfoots, they were no elrond and durin, but a good story, plus nori is gonna turn out to be a total badass.

Show never was bad
I like tha Harfoots a lot. They will always be more removed from the main plot (the rings) so it will sometimes feel weird BUT it is no LOTR story without hobbits. They and their way of life are integral to the impact of the story and narrative.
They managed to turn one of the wisest characters (Galadriel) into a complete sociopath, and orcs who are by their very nature hateful, spiteful, into caring family fathers who just want to live normally without war.
Yeah they have proven that the producer and the writers of this show have their own agenda and could never have read the books. As for the Tolkien estate approving this clusterf. I guess money talks when you move down the generations and they do not have the skill of their father and grandfather.

You know that elves are bound in marriage for eternity, with no concept of cheating or divorce. Only the elven god holds the power to dissolve such a union. For Galadriel to have feelings for another man besides her husband is utterly absurd.
Sauron is evil and a deceiver, right? Its about temptation. I mean, seriously, why would you think this is absurd or impossible? The temptation is the whole friggin' point!

The "orc - daddy" scene is undoubtedly the biggest spittle anyone has ever thrown on Tolkien's work.
This entire series is an insult to the entire work of the true and undisputed Tolkien, Lord of the Rings.

I've read the books and this show is shit.
I'll say this - leaning harder into Sauron is probably the best route for them to take at this point. Throughout LotR he kinda only exists as some existential threat that wouldn't come to pass (coz the Ring gets Melted), so I for one would like to see a LOT more of him doing the things that make him so incredibly feared.

He's ultimately a spirit creature who took human form. He operates mostly by influence. Physical power comes secondary to them when it comes to the physical world and rulership. We're too use to super hero movies that are all about physical power. Morgoth was more about physical power destruction because he wanted to destroy it all. Sauron wanted to preserve, persuade and rule over it.

My first reaction to the trailer: What awful music in the background! Jackson hired someone acquainted with melody and harmony. Sergio Leone hired someone with talent. Prime hired juvenile video game musical artists. Low budget generic sounds instead of music.

At least we have the books and the movie trilogy. The movies really were lightning in a bottle, I don't think anyone will ever replicate that kind of success again with anything related to Tolkien's work.

The age restriction of the series was raised from +13 to +18. This was most likely to show the horror of this event, which is one of the most brutal events in Middle Earth. However, I cannot worry about Celebrimbor like you do. Because Celebrimbor was unfortunately shown as too naive and weak in this series. It was not enough to establish a connection with the audience.

Calling all your critics racist and sexist isn’t the best strategy, how about making a good show with good writing and do right by Tolkien’s work. Halbrand is terrible, Galadriel being a warrior is dumb, Adar is dumb, the numenorian plot is dumb, the way Mordor was created was the biggest nightmare I’ve ever seen. Sauron’s body being destroyed by a crown and some orcs is laughable. The fight scenes make no sense. The making of the rings is backwards. Elrond is not Elrond anymore. Elendil is suppose to be 8 feet tall and all the other numenoreans are suppose to be tall. The reinforcement of Galadriel meeting Halbrand on a boat in the middle of the sea is lazy. The metaphors are repurposed or terrible. Whoever the writers are should be ashamed of how bad they are at their jobs. If normal people butchered a project this bad they would all be fired. It makes no sense how a butchered billion dollar project has no ramifications.
Agreed this show has been an absolute disgrace/disaster.

He treats it like an idol and this is the weakness that Sauron will use for his deception. Tolkien wrote: "Sauron found their weak point in suggesting that, helping one another, they could make Western Middle-earth as beautiful as Valinor. It was really a veiled attack on the gods, an incitement to try and make a separate independent paradise. ...and the Elves came their nearest to falling to ’magic’ and machinery." (J.R.R. Tolkien, The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien, Letter 131 to Milton Waldman)

@blyhiking8392 yeah, and he uses his ring during those plot points. The Witch-king is gonna be prominent in season 4 according to showrunners. Sauron has the ring on Númenor and he uses it to reform his body after the fall. There's no time to wait around for the Lord of the Rings to craft his master ring. That would be incredibly dumb.

The House of Dragons trailers, which were released like 5 and 9 months ago have 11 M and 10M views and then you look at the numbers for The Rings of Powers, so yeah calling this a season to cancel says you have 0 idea what you are talking about.

And most people have made that clear about this bad series. Third: In addition to not delivering what Tolkien fans expect, they haven't even delivered anything worthy of entertainment, even though people are trying hard to abstract the idea that this series is “inspired” by Tolkien, at least pure fact of being bad, having bad characters, lacking charisma, arrogant, that no one cares if they die or live, with worlds that don't awaken any feelings in people, with a story that doesn't create any bond, bond or cause worth defending. Came here to say this. If you go back and watch the first Season's trailer compared to this, you can get a sense of the course corrections they seem to have made. Of course a trailer can get edited into various impressions, but some things like the set lighting, camera work and the apparent approval of these editing choices as representative of the show - it all looks more promising than the first season. First season trailer is as hard to watch as the first season. I'm hopeful for this one!

I had the same thought although not based on the same thing. Which is:
This totally retcons Season 1. At the beginning, Galadriel & the squad found all these misshapen orcs. Meddling in powers of the Unseen World. In Episode 6, Adar says that Sauron experimented on the orcs over & over to gain 'power not of flesh, but over flesh'. Until Adar couldn't take anymore of his 'children' being tortured & killed and 'killed' Sauron.
Very 1st episode of Season 2: Morgoth has JUST been defeated. Sauron asks the orcs to follow him, one orc attacks him, and he kills that orc. Then shouts that they should follow him (it's like a teen trying to assert his power at the adults' meeting because he doesn't know how to express it naturally). Kneels to be crowned, Adar wounds him by jabbing the crown in the back of this neck/general head area... and then watches as the orcs all kill Sauron. No time passed, no orcs experimented on or tortured or killed (except the attack orc), and Adar didn't actually kill him. Why can't modern shows ever remember their own story or story lore?!
Even as someone who loved Lord of the rings, I'm struggling to care about this.

They are using Time Compression to move all the exciting things together into one story. If they can move the Creation of the Rings and the Siege of Eregion back thousands of years to the end of the 2nd Age, then they also can move Durin's Bane and Gandalf forward thousands of years. It is the adaption difference between films/TV and books.

Though this series has been receiving the utmost criticisms, the portrayal of Annatar (Sauron) here is on point. He's the only reason why I watch the ROP.

I love that the elves act as though the stakes are high, when in fact the worst case scenario for them is that they either magically teleport to an idyllic paradise if they get killed by Sauron’s armies or they avoid getting killed altogether and just hop on a boat and sail west to paradise. Either way, the stakes are very low for them no matter what happens.
They don't want to leave Middle-earth.

He disguises himself AFTER revealing himself to Galadriel and AFTER forging the three elven rings. That makes ZERO sense. The disguise was Sauron’s way of getting the elves to trust him and forge the rings of power. That’s why it makes no sense to disguise himself after he has already told them how to forge the rings. I mean he’s already got the elves to do what he wanted as Halbrand, why attempt such a dumb and lazy disguise? Are the elves effing stupid?

I know all the LOTR/Hobbit sagas are done, it may not be true to the nature of Tolkien but it gives me something to look forward to watching. I just love the background, the production, cinematography, its still something hopeful. I also think its good too.
