- I have been wanting to get a hardtail for a few years and finally found the one. Riding a hardtail can help improve your form on the bike as they are less forgiving and can force you to use better body positioning. What I wasn't expecting is how much fun I had aboard the Nukeproof Scout 290.

The thing i learned from mountain biking. "Learning is Expensive",You either pay a mechanic to fix and maintain ur bike, or attend a class/workshop then amount of hrs u attend,or else not minding if u break some parts,just keep doing mistake so you can learn it from ur self.
TH-cam videos have been helpful for me to learn how to fix things. Sometimes it's rewarding and other times it can be frustrating lol

handling skills with surgical precision! That’s why I love riding hard tails. It mentally stimulates me more by keeping me on my toes and I don’t hate the fact it climbs way more efficiently than full suspension. Honestly I feel that any local trails can be ridden on a hard tail. Bike park style jumps and drops is another story. Nice work on the video my man...keep it up!
Yes, I have ridden the hardtail on all the local trails.....sometimes it was quite a bit more interesting.

Nice, I own a Surly Karata Monkey steel hardtail and it rips. The steel frame takes a lot of the trail chatter out. Steel is real. Nice channel man.

You can absolutely give a good review. It just a different point of view which is what every review is. The terrain you ride in is far different from what Steve at HT Party does in AZ. Now I did purchase a Ragely Big Al as a result of his review, but because that you have a ridden a lot of long and short travel FS bikes, a switch to the fun of a hard tail is valid point of view as well. :)
Thank you Chris. The Scout is a great bike and such a blast to ride. It really made all my local trails feel new again and pushed me to have to try harder on the DH sections. I actually was after a steel Ragley as well but all models were sold out. I would love to try a steel frame HT and see how that feels and may snag one soon. Chromag is another frame that is very intriguing. Thanks again for watching!

Firme! I switched to a mullet honeymaker Hardtail w 2.8s , from a full sus…I’ve had so much fun! If I want suspension I hop on my ktm Xc300

Agreed, if you can afford to have two bikes, you got to have a hard tail! I have a Nukeproof Mega 275 and a hard tail 29er, and I love riding my hard tail. They're just so fun. My riding buddy actually has this Scout 290 Pro, and it's super nice!!
Yes! Mega and the Scout is what I had and those are some excellent options. Nukeproof is killing it with their recent bikes.

@@JDR71326 the 2.6 tires fit nicely but would say 2.8 wouldn't work.....so 3.0 would be a no go unfortunately.

I want a hardtail and I almost bought a Commencal Meta HT AM. Instead I bought a Fox Factory 38 (replaced my Fox 38 Performance) and Fox Factory X2 (replaced my Fox DPX2 Performance.) I should have bought the hardtail 😆 It would have been cheaper too. Another great video brother.

Dude a lot of trails I've been faster on my hardtail vs my Yeti SB6 (160/160mm travel). Less forgiving but will increase speed and skill for sure. Loads of fun too! Have both!
Skipping over the top of rocks is faster lol. Yes, pumping and moving with the bike gets you down fast. I am realizing enduro bikes are making me a lazier rider.

I’m on Ragley Mmmbop 63 HA on a 160 lyrik and sitting on 2.8 fatties ,
At 54 years old not even trying I stick to my boys who got full squish carbons
But and the BIG Butt is I’m way more fatigued and have to white knuckle some stuff after a long ride ,
Funny thing is one of my dudes was like I will swap you for my Bronson and I was like Nah … if my old ass goes full squish I will get a ebike and just sell full out lol
Thank you! I was actually after a Chromag Rootdown but at the time they were sold out. If I go HT again I most surely will get a steel frame with more aggressive geometry. There is something rewarding about clearing sketchy lines on a HT.....but the pain afterwards isn't so great 😆 . Thanks for watching!
@@StraightLine_MTB all LuV .. I have ridden a few steal HTz and to 100 the aluminum Ragleys are just as compliant and way lighter , look at the RSD middle child it had a sliding rear end so you can try it a ton of ways ,
I have ridden the aluminum , steel and titanium , the TI is dope and the aluminum is dope the steal is not very fun
I have a hard tail and an Enduro. My Enduro is pretty much park only. My hardtail is budget xc. One thing I notice going the other way, from hard tail to soft tail, is what you said. With the long travel Enduro I don't pick lines like I use to. I take some of chunk head on. I find it easy to go over then around.
As for rocks in berms, I had no idea why I was afraid of them in my Enduro. I had tell myself its okay to roll over! Lol
As for my little one, looking at getting her full suspension all mountain next year. She will okay grow her hardtail xc. But once full grown either a downhill, she only wants to ride park, or Enduro. And yes a budget hardtail.
I love my plow wagon 160/170mm on chunky trails but running the HT is a whole experience. I've gotten better at pumping and working the bike in the more demanding terrain. That has helped me go faster on the bigger bikes. HT bikes are a good starting point for sure. Thanks for watching...... I like how our TH-cam names are contradictory 😆.
@@StraightLine_MTB thanks. We use to ridewithevac, but she two rules for biking. First no straight lines. She loves cycling, but road cycle is not her thing. We tried that once and after that she said no more straight lines. Thus the name change. Second rule avoid pedaling. Thus the passing to the local bike park
You nailed the issue with full suspension vs. HT in the opening. Most beginners now are opting for FS and wondering why they're not progressing, sure the ability to hit everything from the off feels cool at the start but you're not learning to pick lines, read the trail, learn proper BW distribution and correct poor technique. It's like driving a manual vs. automatic.
Really helps lean good line choice as the alternative can hurt 😆. It really helps learn to pump and work the bike. Thanks for the great feedback and support!
I have a 27.5 Salsa Timberjack, find having the 2.8 tires and running a slightly lower pressure helps alot in the chunk.

For the price it is great.....looks nice to boot. I'd love to try a Chromag or Canfield steel frame HT.

Just built my scout lyric ultimate 160 xt parts and horizon v2 rims ard kit i come form motocross i am 37 and ill be on a hardtail till I need a full suspension bike but I love jumping and playing fast is cool but line choice all day

I am 5'11.5" with 31.5" inseam and riding a Large. Fit felt great stock...40mm stem might have felt a touch better but the stock 50mm stem was not uncomfortable. All around a great bike and super fun on the trail. Thanks for watching!

Good job! My 17 Honzo was stolen and I'm debating the Scout or a honzo esd.. I ran a cush core in the rear and it was a game changer. I live in Durango Colorado and we have some chunk lol.
Honzo was high on my list as well. I added 2.6 tires and Tannus Tubeless Armour in the rear and that really helped with comfort. The chunk really makes you study Line choices when rocking the hardtail.....but it's always a great feeling when you clear sketchy sections even if your back is not happy 😆 . Thanks for watching Rob.
ive just ordered a 2018 nukeproof scout frame (exactly the same geo as 2021) to swap out my 150mm full suspension frame as i dont see the point in me having a full sus. im not very good at gnarly mtb trails and jumps so i want something nice and basic to help progress my line choices and techniques.
Awesome. The Scout is such a great bike. I took mine down some sketchy stuff and it will get you down. I added 2.6 tires which helped with comfort but otherwise it's a fun bike

Scout is awesome.....with me. For the price this bike is well spec'd and so capable. unfortunately no bike is a keeper...gotta keep the bikes moving in and out lol.
Why'd you go 29" on the HT? I'd like to add one to the stable but I'm leaning 27.5 on this one.
I chose 29 simply for the rollover and smoothness....as c well as that's mainly what I have been riding the last couple years. 29er will give more comfort when things get rocky.
Riding Mountain Rigs, since 1996. Cannot afford full-suspension...nor the components such as a shock. Tires are now too expensive. $4.00 to produce a bike tire, $70.00 for the consumer. And I'm heavy at 255 pounds. Have not tested(Trek, Vitus,Rocky Mountain, Nukeproof), a full-suspension, that I can trust. The rear linkage, usually fails. Hardtails? I've had Cube, Ragley, Nukeproof, GT, and Sonder. I love'em all. Full-suspension & carbon, is extremely...over-rated.
Hardtails are the man's mountain bike. Super fun. Challenging, and fulfilling to ride. Would love a lynsky or moots ti hardtail

I'm 5'11.5" riding a large. Fit was good aside from I may prefer a 40mm stem instead of the 50mm.
How many pounds do it weighs???
I believe it was around 31lbs
