I can't downshift. The top row is fine but the bottom row is not working well, where am I doing wrong? only when I push the segment near the wheel with my hand, the transmission ends up on the smaller wheels. I don't know why the cable won't do it?

Missing information on setting up the cable tension, you mentioned it happened to be right without adjustment but how to judge it's right ?
Thanks. The tension of cable is determined by the ability of the pusher able to rotate that can engage othe the large and small cogs. Hope this help.

What wire you use ? Can I use any MTB wire with it ?
Cannot unless you file it down to 2.8mm
The stopper must be 2.8mm for Brompton stock integrated shifter. If you use other MTB shifter, stand MTB cable.
