Watching this 8 years later in 2022 and I can’t help but think War Thunder was a better looking, feeling, and functioning game back then…
Personally I think that wrecks should stop shots in simulator battles. One would have to use one's eyes and see if the tank was moving or not etc to determine if it was dead. This would also allow for some interesting "playing dead" ambush opportunities.
Consider this, if the range/elevation marks on the sights are correct, that is to say in metric, our dear Jingles was shelling enemies at ranges up to 1200 meters.
Those among us that play WoT, myself included, should know that WoT maps are in average around 1km x 1km in size.
Just a tought.
I really hate it when you have an amazing game but you lose and then in the next battle you do nothing but you win.
I really hate that.
This video is pretty much everything I wanted to experience when I started World of Tanks. Tanks doing tanks things, rolling like badass mofos in large fields where they can put their speed, armor and big guns to use, not camping for fifteen minutes behind two rocks or a demolished house. I need to play that game!
Cannot wait to blow up Shermans with Tigers in SB
Jawohl kamradden
And for the Shermans to play up tigers
I think if a tank is knocked out but not burning the hatches should be open as if the crew bailed out.
man try and get your hands on steel fury you toss a good shell into a tank you may see a couple lucky germans hopping out of the tank and running
wich means they dont live anyway :P
Hey Jingles, took me a while to notice this, but when your gun reloads, your circle will fade from green (freshly reloaded) to white, where the gun is more stabilized and will have a lower dispersion. Patience is rewarded in Simulator Battles it seems.
The SU-122 is such a pain to use on Kursk, you have to elevate the gun so much, reloading takes forever, and everyone loses sight of the target if you miss. But when you score a hit, it's so satisfying. First shot I ever fired in the SU-122 was on Kursk, and I hit a Pz IV G (player) at 1.6 km. The only thing that wasn't red on the hit log was his loader.
Must admit...I've had no desire to get into the CBT or even play tanks once they go open beta, but these simulator battles look so much fun to play!
I use the words "chillingly epic" when it came to you creating the ridge and opening fire on all of the tanks bellow. That scene from that specific angle was just awe-inspiring, like a live performance of the 1812 finale.
Kursk is the best map ever! for both ground and air forces. great stuff!
Could not agree more! Although im at figuring out the ballistics of that bloody 88mm Tiger I gun
MrMarci878 Its really hard to find a match with the tiger, and its kinda frustrating that all the progress will be wiped in obt!
***** Its fine imo that it will be wiped. It lets us lot know what the good tanks are :3
Does anyone know, when the bloody ground forces will come to the live server? I am eager to get my hands on a Tiger II :D
Anes Mesic There has been Speculation that It MIGHT BE... Tomorrow. dont take my word for it though
this game in youtube is so blurry compared to the actual game.
It is really easy to see if it's an AI or not in Kursk. AIs drive the PzIV H version with a light brownish camo and add-on armor to the sides of the tank. The Soviet AI uses the T-34-76 without any camo.
Jingles you need to increase bit-rate in shadow play to get rid of the artifacting. PM me if you need help with that!
never heard him say he uses shadow play, though he had bandicam
Harry Holloway Well, if you don't have space or FPS issues max bit-rate(50) and 60fps
He doesn't even use Shadowplay...
Crystal Roux LOL
Crystal Roux Ohh, so you were playing with him last weak and he said that he isn't using Shadowplay...
I wish WoT would add this as a battle mode. No red outlines on enemy tanks, no tank info and only commander/gunner view. And massive maps.
I don't know about other things, but you can remove outlines with mods, or just turning off battle interface.
+Gozer Gozerian note. You can do that. Just go and click v, it should remove the enemy tanks red outline, and the enemies name,hp etc.
Jingles I came from 4 yrs of WOT and actually tried hiding behind a knocked out tank in war thunder.. it didnt work for me lol. Great show thanks for taking time to make it
The fact that your shots go right through knocked-out tanks detracts from the realism just as much as not knowing if they're still dangerous or not adds to it.
The graphics are really good and the game play on Kursk reminds me of the Tank vs. Tank battles in Red Orchestra 2. Another great video. Thank you.
This video sent me over the edge. I'm guessing the open beta test for Ground Forces is coming out very soon, but all the War Thunder videos you've been putting up finally sold me, Jingles. Take my money, Gaijin.
That music at the start really reminded me of the first time I logged onto warthunder
I really don't understand why maps like this aren't the bread and butter of War Thunder Ground Forces. I can understand Karelia, Ash River and the like for Arcade, and Historical to an extent, but this really sets War Thunder apart from World of Tanks.
Looks soooooooooo epic!!!!!!!! Oh God, I can't wait to play this!
I loved this! Please keep showing more of these! also very informative, btu you seem a lot happier in ground forces than you did in the air in war Thunder.
This is exactly what I've wanted on world of tanks for ages
If you want to know wheter a tank has been knocked out or not, check the map. If it is alive it will be there on the map as a small red line. and yes, the map is small and can be hard to read at times but if there are only a small amount of enemy tanks left keep an eye on the map and you'll see where they are IF your teammates have spotted them AND you have a line of sight on the enemy.
Man, I love it when Jingles gets all factual and drops some cool war knowledge on us.
Jingles you do great job secretely youare teaching a bit of history for those who listen and follow you you are a good man! Keep it up
Man I have been a fan of WOT but having to adjust your shot is awesome realism and can create an added edge for a good player over a less experienced player being able to hit the target for a farther distance.
Jingles...wow. This game keeps getting better and better.
Wow, just wow. I will be playing War Thunder, Ground Forces, in simulator mode. Seeing the scope and breadth of this makes me want to play. I lay the blame entirely at your feet, Herr Jingles!
This was Great to watch. I think you should keep telling us educational info on tank wars every other video. I'm sure I'm not the only one who likes to learn about WWII Tank History.
9:30 an another issue that your gun's size compared to your tank's size counts a lot. As we can see here, the tiny 45mm gun makes just a small knock to the tank, but when you are firing with for example a Tiger's main gun, that monster kicks the tank back a lot harder, beside of the smoke it generates.
Extreme example is the sovier ZiS-30 tank destroyer, wich is a tiny tankette, with a 57mm AT gun on the top. You really have to learn to aim before you drive this thing, because the fire adjustment does not work at all. The gun makes a huge smoke ball, and kicks your tank back that you cant see the impact, so you cant adjust your aim with that. :D
This is simply great to have a game like this.
I remember when this game was great.
Now Simulator battle looks impressive. About time there was something like this with no name tags, and all the other goodies that come with playing a game that is trying to simulate a real battle as best it can.
The commenders view needs to be a little bit lower, a commander wouldn't stick out that high from a turret in a combat zone, if at all.
If a Commander did that... It will be like Steel Battalion
Pop your head for 2 seconds and BAM! get sniped
Ross Nelson He's drinking a beer and watching the battle unfold.
i just love the smoke effects soo classy
oh wow, i cant wait for this to open fully
That's it Jingles, only one step left for you to do in War Thunder:
Aircraft Simulator Battles
I do so want to see you flying SB. It would be entertaining and educationalm, as we can see you geting the hang of it, a lot of us might learn with you.
So Jingles...you finally made it onto the Kursk map ey? Nice..I liked hearing your side of things. I realy like this map...long distance engagements in SB is a nice challenge..hitting an oponent with the 1st or 2nd shot. :)
I must say, these games WERE fun for the first 2 months of gameplay. After that they get repetitive and boring. How can you still play them, props to you.
Jingles, you can recognize knocked-out tanks pretty easily most of the time. It gets tricky when its crew is killed. First of all pay attention to minimap. Your crew knows best which tanks are dead and which are alive. Secondly the battle messages, you might not know who is this enemy (no nickname) but you do know your teammates nicks. It helps. And one shot is enough (at close range) to know if it passed through enemy tank. As for the higher tier matches, Panthers rule the Kursk map. It's most obvious with the tier III (D) as it is pretty OP (mobility, penetration, accuracy, good hull frontal armor and great turret armor). At tier IV its like 4:1 in Germans-Russians ratio. German tanks are awesome for SB and especially Kursk map.
Jingles, you really need to give simulator air battles another chance. I know its scary, but when you learn to take off its every bit as epic as you say about the ground battles. its also really tense and glorious inside the cockpit.
Jingles... you played a sim battle! Even if the spotting system is way too easy right now due to the minimap auto-spotting... I'm proud of you!
By the way, you can use the minimap to your advantage as each square is 500x500 meters, so use that to find the range and use the appropriate range marker in the gunsight.
Jingles, a short bit of trivia about the Sherman: While it may be true that the early versions had the problem of the ammunition burning, once wet racks (and better stowage) were installed the Sherman had one of the lowest chances of catching fire out of any tank on the battlefield. Even the "mighty" Panther had a greater chance, and so did the Pz IV.
uh no Shermans had the highest chance of catching fire throughout the entire war which is how they earned the nick names 'Ronson' "Tommycooker" and "The Burning Grave"
Show me proof.
3:50 That is so amazing, my jaw literally dropped when I saw that
Hey Jingles, report from a Tiger I player: I played only one time on Kursk so far,but it was really all I wanted from a tank game! My team consisted of Tigers and Panthers and the enemy had only T-34-85 (I think). after a short move forward the germans stopped and started shooting at enemy AI Tanks and players. The distance between me and my enemies were between 1600 and 2000 meter! No joke! The russian players used their mobility and the little cover on the map to get sneaky side shots, while the germans used their armor and were stationary. One T-34 driver managed to get 8 kills and one death. He only had to deal with me to win,but he attacked me from the front and I killed him.
by far best WTGF video i saw....wasn't really a fan of WTGF, but damn, that looked so epic....huuuuuuge battlefield and huuuuuge number of tanks fighting....what's there not to like....
I completely fell in love with the second stug you unlock, and even thought i unlocked the jagdtpanther i stuck with the stug not to get spoiled since it was so easy to unlock everything during the ground forces events, also the graphic are great, the game really benefices from having a highly detailed sky since its designed originally for planes, it makes maps very real with a good authentic vibe, i think this game is going to obliterate world of tanks, especially after the awful world of warplanes.
Just when I'm about to write WT:GFs off as an also ran you come along with a video like this one. I must admit I'm becoming a bit impatient waiting for the open beta version to become available. Keep up the excellent work.
Jingles during the battle of Kursk the Soviet doctrine for the heavy tank destroyer battalions changed. The SU-152's was ordered to keep firing on incapacitated enemy tanks until the turret was knocked off. This was due to the Germans recovering tanks after nightfall and repearing them for the next day.
My body is ready for this.
Jingles, one tips for SB:
If it move, shoot it. If it dont move, watch it!
It will save you some ammo and may give you better chance of ambush enemy tank.
the germans actually mandated to shoot at a tank until it was on fire. this was done on both fronts
There should be a driver's view in SB also. Commanders didn't actually drive the tank nor did gunners so it doesn't make much sense for those to be the only viewpoints. They should look at what Red Orchestra 2 did for tanks, you could either be the driver (hatch open or closed), commander (top hatch open or closed), or gunner. That was a much better system imo.
Well now you can drive in the drivers view!
yep when i first played on the Kursk map I had to push close my mouth it was just so great. I hope they add more maps like that to the game soon.
Now THIS is "historical battles"! Here is where WT:GF really starts to separate itself from WoT more than just the more beautiful graphics: these massive battles over a very big playing field. It could be even bigger but this is certainly a step in the right direction.
See the deflections is so cool when you get bounces.
They should make the non-burning knocked out tanks essentially the same way tanks in World of Tanks that simply have a dead crew go into a non-operational state but can still be damaged and killed, that way when you shoot it it will be damaged and you may even set it on fire and show for sure that it is dead. And when you hit and damage and get no reward for it you will know that it is dead.
On a similar note to that, in simulator it shouldn't give you any feedback on the damage you do to a tank until it explodes, to make it truly simulator-like.
Is this on nightly? I have access to the beta but I've been trying to log into the nightly server at various time each day for a week and it's never up. I haven't played in like 2 months and would really like to get into play it again. Anyone know if there's something new I need to download etc?
3:50 look at the crossfiring going on in the distance. Look at it!! Oh man, I simply cannot wait til this comes out.
love it when I see a video and its only been out for 3 minutes
Might have to queue up for a simulator battle next time I play, this looks fecking awesome
Tankgasm - this is most certainly more the tank gameplay I am personally looking for over WoT.
Wow... maps like this make it seem worth playing. The earlier maps where it ended up a camp-fest really didn't sell it for me. They need more like this.
The thing I can't figure out is, how, in these videos, is Jingles able to poke his head out without getting it blown off? I've only been playing for a few hours, granted, but I can't seem to do much of Anything without getting ammo racked or literately swarmed.
I don't know if it's the tank I'm driving or what I'm doing wrong, but no matter how I angle the armor, or how much I pop in and out of cover/side-scrape, I seem to be the number 1 target and spend most of my gameplay dead/running back from the graveyard. I've watched an enemy tank roll into our cap, right past two others who where shooting at him, just to attack me for Christ sake.
/Endrant
In semi-related news, Jingles, I was wondering if you would be so kind as to produce some sort of beginner's guide for WT:GF? There isn't a whole lot if information I've been able to find. I've got, like, 4 different types of ammo, but I have absolutely no clue why I have them. That sorta thing!
I'm sure it would help people like me (absolute noobs) out.
i was IRL,a tank driver during the cold war in germany.the drivers view while buttoned up was very limited.i drove with the hatches open during convoys..in live fire missions, you had better keep that hatch shut,,it is very painful if you dont.
Very good gameplay jingles. Excellent job
Great video as usual Jingles
Really enjoying playing War Thunder Ground Forces at the moment, a nice change to WofT.
Just bringing out the inner nerd here Jingles, you only mentioned the casualties for the Operation Citadel. The Battle of Kursk proper had 90,000 Germans killed, losing about 750 tanks, whereas the Russians had about 250,000 killed and lost about 6,000 tanks.
So I completed the challenge for getting air kills in WT. I got the victory banner decal and I think I've got access to the CBT. But how do I actually play it?
Great video again jingles!
I really want to see the m18 hellcat in ground forces.
That thing is so damn fast
All tank progress - researched vehicles and crew training, will be wiped after the start of the open beta test of the War Thunder ground forces! Our advice is that you do not spend Golden Eagles on crew training as this progress will not be carried over into the Open Beta, there will be a complete reset of all ground forces gains when they eventually do go live.
I have a feeling that War Thunder GF in simulator battles draws the fine line between sim territory 'Red Orchestra or Steel Fury' and arcade 'WoT'.
I'm not too sure if having such a high reward for a single simulator battle is justifiable... I mean come on, more than 2 tanks can be bough from that one battle!
I can easily see how epic this map can be with Tigers and Panthers on a ridge, firing down on the horde of T-34s and KV-1s racing across the open field to close the distance to engage the Germans. I think it'd be amazing.
hey Jingles all 3 thumbs up for that entertaining lesson in tank usage and history ;-)
I have the access to the beta but I can't seem to find where to connect for a tank battle. I've tried the nightly server but that us closed for now, and the main warthunder server doesn't have an army tab pop up. Is there something I have to download? If so could you link it for me? Thanks
you know jingles..that T-50 currently has a broken damage model so thats why you been doing so well in it becouse it's almost imposible to kill
Jingles, do you have itunes? If so, you should download greatest tank battles off of it. Really good documentary of the various tank battles throughout the world, not just the popular ones like battle of the bulge but others such as the battle of Normandy, The Battle of arracourt, Battle for the Golan Heights etc.
Oh so many times I've wished WoT would have that shooting feature that you need to adjust the height by yourself, instead having that automatic shot adjustment
While it's very unlikely that WG would make a change like that at this stage, ability to manually switch between automatic adjustment and manual adjustment would be really useful in some situations, especially when using low velocity howitzers.
at rank 3 kursk can easily go to either team, and i fond it easyer to learn how to aim the gun in sim battles as compaired to arcade and historical
WOW, quite a treat to see all those targets in front of you ! But how come the tanks had to have a set number of respawns. Realistically it's impossible but you could also argue that there were so many tanks involved in that specific battle that they could not have run out of them on a day of fighting.
Great video, Jingles! But the T-50... I just came out of a Sim battle, and about 4 out of 5 Russian tanks were T-50s. They were just all over the place. Maybe one thing that their DM seem bugged in AB, but in SB it's just plain ridiculous. They hardly take any damage when you hit them, and they have an insane rate of fire, with a gun that apparently can pen most tanks from any side.
Jingles, nice to see SB video, but please try a tank that is from the planet Earth next time. :)
Jingles, I have a question: Have you ever run out of ammo in War Thunder, and if so is there any way to resupply? If not, do you think a method should be implemented for resupply (and perhaps repairs), like having an ammo depo, which could also be destroyed by the enemy for extra points? Seems like it would be nice to fix a busted horizontal drive or swap out injured crewmembers without just waiting for the tank to get destroyed.
Jingles, how come you get into all the closed beta tests of games!
I just remembered an important quiestion. Mr. Jingles, what do you think about seagulls? I heard they are a nightmare in London, but how were they on the ships?
Why can't they just have a message like "I think he's dead" happen when you shoot at a dead tank instead of having shots go straight through things?
How do you get the DMG report on right side? I'm playing arcade and I don't have something like this.
Jingles have you ever tried Mechwarrior Online? It's maybe not your typical setting but it has some great costumization and plays pretty tactical... And most important you're piloting big badass mechs :D Nice video as always! keep up the great work!!! :D
@ Jingles The AI tanks have much bigger smoke trail behind them when moving. just a tip :)
You should land a plane on CBT map, when you land, drive around and see what other tanks are saying.
BohemianEagle Please tell me, when is the War Thunder Ground Forces going open Beta?
not even Gajin knows!
but iff you whana play buy a tank is 14 euros!
6:55 that spitfire derping around
Jingles, You said that there is no Third person view in Simulation mode, but what's stopping people from using the Artillery Mode to scout around himself, giving you a third person view, if not better.
For what it's worth: I use Open Broadcast Software for both streaming and recording. If you have a GTX 660 or newer NVIDIA card, you can use the GPU (same feature as with ShadowPlay but with much wider range of options) for video capture and it works quite brilliantly.
I have no idea how it compares to BandiCam, but it is much better than FRAPS for example.
Were you replying to someone or just randomly stating what you use to stream with?
Chris Atkins It was a topic of conversation in another comment thread, but that was getting filled by toxic nonsense comments so I just made a new comment instead.
I always like to propagate good, open software to people who can make the greatest use of them. GPU encoding is pretty awesome, compared to video capture software that uses CPU for the video encoding it hardly affects performance at all. And in comparison with NVidia's ShadowPlay, OBS offers significantly more tools. The only downside is that it takes a bit of work to set up but at least it isn't a gaping memory hole like ShadowPlay.
Yea I've used OBS.
So are air battles and ground battles happening at the same time on the same map
In simulator mode, or any other for that matter, is there any way to adjust the zero of the sights? So after getting a ranging shot, you can move the crosshair down to make it on target?
in WoT, have you ever had epic games in the french tier 4 heavy tank B1?
on a giant map they should have a "continuous battle mode where tehy allow you to going in at anytime and battle it out on either side. only way to leave is to die just tons of AI and players
Would shells really bounce off like fireworks into space like in this vid? Seems a bit weird.
However Im no expert and Im sure there is a logical explanation.
Well its certainly possible if the angles are right, i assume its the reason they made sloped armor so that the shells would scrape and ricochet instead of penetrating, look it up i guess?
Seems to fit with veterans descriptions of what tank warfare looked like then. You would see the shot travel over and then shoot off straight up or at some wild angle if it was deflected. As gamers we can all just only guess.
Short answer yes.
Yes. All projectiles are capable of it happening, it's similar to deflection off the armor. If you'd like to see it en mass, look up a minigun or just a machine gun in general firing at night. You'll notice many, many ricochets with bullets shooting up into the sky. These cannon shells are no different. Just larger.
Only AP will do it though. Obviously, HE will explode upon impact.
Yes it does. The same it does when u fire with planes into water. Most of them bouncu straight up in the air cus of the angle. Exactly like how ut works when u throw a rock steeply into water and keeps bouncing for a few times.
