It's not fear of socializing, alright, they socialized plenty. Laughed jokes teased he said. It's the fear of going after what you want because of the small petty things in life that hold you back, like an insecurity. Or poor self esteen. Ask out that girl. Apply for that dream school. What hurts more than not trying is your resulting self esteem.
the best way to conceptualise regrets is to understand that no matter what could have been chosen, there will still be regret. and most importantly it is a natural part of being human

@@youcantbeatk7006 the video he made didn't have anything to do with life advice, so saying most boomers are out of touch with reality doesn't apply anywhere. it was just a story from his early years about something that he really regrets. it is up to each one of the viewers to interpret it the way they see fit. i also believe that it would be nice if more elderly people, and people in general, start sharing videos of stories like these so everyone realizes that it's a part of life to regret some choices you've made in the past. maybe, this way you might even find people going through situations similar to yours.

It was more straightforward back in the day without social media. If you got rejected, that's the end of the story. Nowadays, if the girl was really mean, she could brag and post about it on her social media and really make you the laughingstock for everyone to pick on. Moral of the story, courtship was more refined and dragged out before the days of the internet, when landline phones were the closest thing you have to a two-way communication back then.

I'm 22 years old, and my love story began in 9th grade when I fell for a girl who was a year younger than me. Back then, I was a shy old bastard, hesitant to make a move. Over the course of three years, she and her friends knew about my feelings for her, yet my own fear and shyness kept me from expressing them directly. But as my 12th grade was nearing to an end, I realized that if I continued like this, I'd lose her forever. Summoning all my courage, I finally approached her. Since then, in 2024, we're still happily together. So, to all those held back by fear, take it from me: face your fears and embrace the opportunity for love
Feel like I’m on the other side of that story lol. I’m 18 years old and got together with my boyfriend a few months ago. I think we both fell for each other at around the same time 2 or 3 years ago, but never acted on it. The time I found out, that he felt the same I didn’t think of him that way anymore… his friends then made jokes about him having a crush on me for years , even though he also lost his feelings. Then this year before our graduation I got feelings again and I was to shy to tell him, so I told mutual friends and they kind of did the job for us :)
i would get anxious just going out to hang with my best friend and i hate parties and people i dont know i feel worried about what to say too much, ur not alone
Hey guys, if youre really planning to improve your social skills, then hating it is going to bring you nowhere I used to be this way. I used to HATE going up to people. But let me tell you, im reaping the rewards now. Im going in on social situations comfortably now and talking to whoever i want This is my advice: Youve got to love it. Learn to love it. I know its hard, but you HAVE to change the doom and gloom mindset. How are you going to get what you want if all you expect is disaster and discord? Replace negative thinking with positive thinking. Trust your gut. Move when it tells you to From here on out, its down to you guys if you wish to improve or not.
Only way to beat anxiety is to literally force it out your system. Put yourself in those uncomfortable social situations and face them head on. Once you realize everyone is as pussy as you are when it comes to talking you’ll feel way better

A guy however if he screws up once letting a girl he really likes slip away because of fear it is damaging. May not get another chance for a long time depending on the type of guy.
This hit me hard because I had some girls flirt with my in high school but my self esteem was so low due to emotional harassment from my “friends” that I didn’t think I was good enough for them and I was convinced they only saw me as a friend. Even when girls alluded to wanting to hang out, I still felt completely inferior. The idea of a girl liking me was not fathomable until I left high school and dropped my crappy “friends”. I even had a particular girl that I knew 1000% she was into me but I still was too scared to ask her out or anything. I think a scary amount of people can relate. But on the bright side of things, those experiences taught me that I can’t go through life being scared of petty stuff and I needed to develop a stronger mental frame. I'm 41. We've all been there dude. It's just the sad reality of life. You didn't do anything wrong. It's in the past. Your best days are always ahead of you. Never forget that.
a teacher in middle school had a poster on the wall that i remember vividly. the poster had a quote that has stuck with me for 10+ years. “better to try and fail, than to never have tried at all”
That's exactly my outlook in life. I get livid when someone says they won't do something (that may be good for them, like going to sleep, or tidying up your room, or studying) because "I don't want to" like what? It's happened multiple times in my life and I just cannot comprehend how one doesn't even try to try.
My dad regrets a lot of life decisions and saw me doing the same mistakes, I wanted to pursue some dream of mine but I fear the long road ahead and the huge sacrifices then he told me that quote "better to try and fail, than to never have tried at all". We were sitting on an empty beach watching the sunset and soaking our legs in the sea.
Regret is an illusion, you're creating fantasies in your mind of what could've happened and about what happened in that moment. And in the moment you didn't make any moves because you were too busy fantasizing in your mind about what could go wrong. So the lesson is.. stop thinking about the past and the future and live in the moment. One moment from the next thoughts arise and pass and so do emotions. Don't let that shit define who you are.
But if I'm like 90 years old, then what's the point in living in the moment? I would rather live in the past and just think of the old times. Sometimes, it's just too late to live in the present.

I think the biggest thing that has surprised me in this life is that getting older doesn’t solve anything. I am 24 now and still have the same fears and insecurities that I did when I was 14. Courage does not come at the absence of fear, but in the midst of it rather. We translate our feelings and impulses into something we convince ourselves to be true. Truth is beyond anything that we think/feel. Are you afraid? Then choose courage, even if your feelings don’t match. We have to choose things of value and shape our lives around such things, if you are waiting for the feelings to come you will be waiting until you die having accomplished nothing. I am 24 and not yet old to most, but the irony is If we have the same fears and anxiety all of our life then what difference does age make? It’s the choices we make and the lessons we gain from them.

I've had moments like you did and that was enough pain to start socializing and ask girls out even if I look dumb or get rejected. It's nothing compared to the regret you feel later.
Yeah I don’t think people should be so quick to neutralize these feelings. They’re there for a reason, our mind thinks about what could be for a reason, “living in the moment” is often false/premature enlightenment that makes people feel like they don’t have to do anything.

I am one that greatly suffers from low self esteem. I’m only 20, but have no friends, and no partner. My insecurities and anxiety have become debilitating, and like you, I beat myself up for not taking initiative and missing any opportunity to get out there. What’s even worse in my opinion is being aware of it. It’s something I want so desperately to change about myself, but I just can’t, and I don’t know why that is. It does help to know I’m not the only one that struggles with this, as it seems like everyone around me has no issue at all with getting out there and making friends. You seem like such a sweet guy, hope all is well with you and thank you for being so open to so many people ❤️
This is coming from someone who would have panic attacks when being around people I didn’t know. It doesn’t exist. It’s all in your head. If someone doesn’t like you, who cares. Dive into it and you’ll see that your fears are ridiculous in the first place. Worst case scenario you make a fool out of yourself and the person dislikes you, it happened to me so many times. The best parts about conquering this fear is that I was able to make lifelong friendships, talk my way into job offerings when my resume was inexperienced, have no fear talking to hot chicks, and feel comfortable speaking in public and can captivate a room full of people with my voice. By doing nothing, you’re making no progress and by failing you’re still making progress. Inaction is failing. Go out there and conquer this fear because you’ll get rewarded tremendously
hey man, just wanted to say I’m also 20 and resonate with that a lot. all throughout high school up until my sophomore year of college I didn’t make a single new friend and instead clung into dwindling friendships from middle school. more recently, I’ve (kind of) found my way out of it. my advice would be to find something in your self-identity that can be a source of confidence. whether it’s a hobby or other interest, if you spend less time worrying what others expect of you and more time doing what you enjoy, your perception of yourself will change for the better. on top of that, you’ll find it easier to approach people who share those same interests. it may not help everyone, but that’s what worked for me.
@@arthinox3317holy shit I’m also 20 and only holding onto dwindling friendships from middle school and HS. But, I’ve been engaging in some small talk with this girl who I sit next to in one of my college classes. I’m gonna keep going with it and see where it goes, for better or worse, because I’m done making no progress at all with myself.
I remember having a crush on a girl that I lived near at 16 and I think the feeling was mutual but was too afraid to let her know, I figured I was young and eventually I would break out of my shell and let her know. We both had summer school together and she was killed in an auto accident during a break in between classes. The guilt that I have for feeling like I could've stopped her from getting in that car as well as not just letting her know and getting past my fear of rejection still haunts me and it has been 23 years now. If you have the chance to do something do it, there are very few things that I have mustered up the courage to do that I look back on it and go "man, that was as bad if not worse than I can imagine" and live with regret for doing it. I will always live with the regret of what if and will never be able to turn that part of my brain off.
@@patches-de Thank you, I appreciate the kind words. Not trying to bring the mood down but just something that has stayed with me and if I can help someone else from having to go through that then it was worth the time to post.
As a girl, I appreciate all the comments saying it’s okay for a female to make the first move. I’ve only asked out one guy in my life and I was rejected so hard, I feel I got ptsd from it lol. He basically told me it’s the guys job to ask me out, not the other way around. Then looked me up and down and said “so.. what’s wrong with you?” He then told his friends and they all laughed at me for the rest of the school year so yeah.. good times lol. My social anxiety shot up from there and I patiently waited to be asked out ever since. (Ps. It never happened and I got too comfy being single so my fate is sealed 😅)
He wanted to boost his ego by putting you down. That's all there is to it. There's nothing wrong with asking a guy out first, I do it all the time. The issue is, you should ask guys out when they show some type of interest first, like engaging in conversation and overall looking like they enjoy talking to you. Both girls and boys are put aback from being asked out completely randomly. Typically, you notice them, they notice you, you notice them noticing you, then you can make a move. Walking up to someone with no prior banter or connection is a sure fire way to get rejected.

This is my regret as well. It's been roughly 15 years and I can't stop thinking about my crush, even though she knew that I liked her. I feel you brother. I have a similar story. For my freshman and sophomore I attended High School in Oklahoma, and for one semester of 8th grade. I met a girl who I’ll call M for privacy reasons. M was BEAUTIFUL. She was also extremely sweet. I have autism spectrum disorder and had come from a school where I was bullied horribly for my whole time there and was in a bad phase where I did stupid things and made a real fool out of myself trying to be all “tough.” I made a HORRIBLE first impression on this girl. Like probably the worst you can get. Yet, she ended up liking me. She showed so many signs of it too and because I was just starting to come out of this phase and had an extremely low self-esteem I didn’t react to any of them. She winked at me one day at Lunch in 8th grade and instead of winking back and talking to her, I just shrugged my shoulders and didn’t make eye contact. Then my freshman year she said to me, “you’re hot stuff.” I mustered up whatever little courage and confidence I had, which was basically zero, and tried to tell her, “you’re not so bad yourself.” and she didn’t hear me. I didn’t try and tell her again or asked her out. Well when I started to gain some confidence again I went to ask her on a date and she had someone else and her friend made a big deal about it and deeply upset her. It was a disaster and I think about all the time. What could’ve been with me and M. I’ll never know sadly. So I feel you and I’m sorry you have to live with that regret. I feel the same.
There's a girl from my youth I've thought about for over 11 years. I finally mustered the courage to reach out, and she responded kindly. Hopefully, it goes well. 🙏
Thank you for sharing this. This seriously taught my a valuable lesson. A lot of times i’m too nervous to approach people. I overthink a lot. But i think it scares me a lot more to miss out on potentially good relationships.
wow, I know i've been told many times that guys should make the first move but this could not have been more of a wake-up call. the thought of regretting something for an amount of time that is pretty much 4 times my age(an amount of time I literally can't comprehend) is frightening.
Everyone has these things that we regret from years ago, but not everyone has the courage to talk about them, especially on the internet where anyone could see it. Proud of you, you're a lot braver than most of us here.
this girl I met in the military was damn near the most beautiful girl I ever met. She liked me and I liked her. Didn’t make a move. This was 4 years ago but I still regret not making a move. I don’t regret things normally but damn. I understand the feeling man.
You know what though? He’s right: there’s a good message for younger people that it’s better to take a chance than to live a life of regret. But nobody ever gives any advice to older people, so let me take a shot. I’m 47 (younger than you but not young) and I’m successful with a wonderful wife and daughter. And I have lots of those regrets from my youth. A gorgeous girl I worked with in college who every guy wanted. She never paid attention to any of them. On her last day, before she moved across the country, she told me she’d spent all of this time waiting for me to ask her out. The failures and regrets are part of what made you who you are. Anything you’ve accomplished or that makes you happy now, might not have happened if it weren’t for the things that happened before. So for old guys with regrets, life is short and full of mistakes. Give yourself a break and let it go.
damn, and yet so many guys share similar experiences, being rooted to the seat and unable to make the first move till the regret arises over time and the realization of missed love. It's another type of pain and disappointment to oneself after seeing the very same person ending up uninterested, so uninterested that they don't even look into your eyes anymore or look somewhere else as soon as there's eye contact.
Missed love that sounds very selfish… I’ve got other important things to worry about getting out of poverty finding my career and taking care of my mom that’s first..
You are such a brave and beautiful person for sharing this. So many young men are doing this to themeslves and to the girls who like them, and the way I see it, there will be so many more in the future generations. You did a fatherly duty to any young man who happens to watch this, by talking about your experience. Thank you!

I have never cried over a video, never will. But this speaks hard.

Regret is an illusion, you're creating fantasies in your mind of what could've happened and about what happened in that moment. Don’t be afraid man. You only have a few opportunities, take them
I think the biggest thing that has surprised me in this life is that getting older doesn’t solve anything.

It's crazy to think that the immediate fear and pain of going for the approach and putting yourself out there is scary until you get the REGRET bill later and it's recurring (unless you let go).
How do deal with the rejection I asked one out and got rejected, now I see her alot in public and she's told her friends and they giggle at me everytime I see them,I feel a deep shame and regret for asking even if it was months ago
That's why I choose not to live with regrets. It's not all that healthy. I don't choose to run at the same speed as others. I have my own path to follow.

You seem like such a sweet guy, hope all is well with you and thank you for being so open to so many people ❤️
trust me bruh u can fix it. start small and build it up. you will win.
Your not alone bro just gotta go for her
This is coming from someone who would have panic attacks when being around people I didn’t know.
Wow that was unexpected. So sorry to hear that, i hope you are doing well

@@girlthattalkstoomuch9425 Yeah, I agree but you’re assuming I asked out a random which again, my social anxiety could never. I was classmates with the guy for years.

She sounds dumb. Why didn't she at least try to initiate anything with you then😂
So do you never think about her ?
damn, and yet so many guys share similar experiences, being rooted to the seat and unable to make the first move till the regret arises over time and the realization of missed love.
