This was recorded by Elvis when he was 18 or 19, so right at the start of his career. As he matured, so did his voice, until it had that velvety smooth rich tone but also had that wonderful baritone rasp. Elvis was a baritone, but he could reach into the tenor range & could also go down into the lowest baritone range, quite unique for a singer to cover that much vocal variation, & his vibrato is quite amazing.
Before Elvis’ career took off, that is, when he was still trying to get a foothold (and hopefully a recording contract) in the music business, he “auditioned” at Memphis Recording Service (an arm of Sun Records) in July 1953 and again in January 1954. Elvis used this particular singing style because he thought, as it was the style of the day, he would stand a better chance of being noticed. Fortunately for us, his fans, he dropped this pretence and gave us his musical innovation from his first official recording on.
Elvis recorded this January 4th, 1954 at Sun Records just days before his 19th birthday. He was not signed to a record deal at the time; he went into Sun Studios on his own and for a few dollars was able to record it. Months later, Sam Philips, the owner of Sun Studios had Elvis come in to try out a few songs; they weren't having much luck until after messing around for a bit, Elvis started singing "That's Alright" accompanied by himself on guitar, Bill Black on the bass & Scottie Moore on guitar. And the rest is history. What stands out in this particular song that tells you it's Elvis singing is Elvis's vibrato which, if you listen to a song that Elvis's dad, Vernon Presley recorded, he seems to have gotten from his father who had a similar vibrato.
Well, this is Donna and I looked and I found this and you made me very happy. I appreciate that so much. Don’t know where you found this one. It is a very very early recording of Elvis at Sun studios. He was very very young in this song. In any case keep diving in and I’m gonna keep watching. God bless you my friend. Thank you.
- - - - - Hidden trivia, modern bios only cite the Blues, as if Elvis had no other influences. This is one such example here of just 1 of the many other influences that went into the making of Elvis Presley. He desperately wanted to be another crooner like Bing Crosby (big influence) albeit DEAN MARTIN was his #1 influence. If you listen to Dean doing MEMORIES ARE MADE OF THESE, you can hear the vocal influence Elvis got from him. I could go into Bluegrass & Country Music, but I'll save it for another time, suffice it to say, those were monster influences on him, as well as the making of popular music.
Oh,I think this is lovely!❤️Its Elvis before he became ”Elvis Presley ”. He made that recording 1954. There are a couple of other great songs worth listening to from that time ,”I can’t help it if I’m still in love With you ” ,I think it is so sweet ,you can really see the Journey . The songs are on the cd-album” A touch of platinum ”, well maybe not without you ,I don’t remember .
Unsuggest, you react to the studio version of Elvis, which is on the album, elvis's back. He performed it in 73 at the Aloha concert However, I still prefer this studio version. Thank you for doing Elvis. I watch you... However, I will confess I only listen to your Elvis. Reactions.
This was Elvis before he was Elvis? I feel like someone should have prepped you for this song. It is just Elvis strumming his guitar and hoping that Sam would be impressed and call him back. Sam Phillips wasn't so impressed but Marion Kiesker was and convinced Sam to give him a chance
Why don’t you react to Lisa Marie Presley, singing this song titled idiot. One of my ultimate favorite songs from her it’s great and knowing you I think you would love it. Another suggestion just for interest would be looking up Riley Keough, who is Elvis‘s granddaughter. She did a mini series, called Daisy Jones, and the six. Pull up one of the songs from that mini series. You can find it on TH-cam, and check out Elvis’s granddaughter. I was actually amazed at how beautiful her voice was as well. Thank you again my friend this meant a lot to me and I really really appreciate it. Donna.
This is Baby Elvis 18/19 ❤
I watch all of your Elvis reactions and you can't do enough, as far as I'm concerned.

Wow, I have never heard this before. This is Baby Elvis.❤
Definitely keep listening to Elvis. Live concerts and rehearsals. Little sister
Sophia is right, 'Little Sister' was ALWAYS brilliantly performed. Both in Live concerts and rehearsals.😀
Elvis is only 18 here . How many 18 year olders today are in position to change the world forever?
