Julia Doyle presents an outstanding performance here: "Die Seele ruht . . ." turns out to be an example of Bach's profoundest mysticism; it is a meditation, a prayer full of depth. This depth is mirrored in Julia Doyle's masterly technique of handling breath units and high notes: flawless, extremely moving, almost disturbing in its intensity. Bach helps us to have a religious experience through the art of Julia Doyle. Thank you!
@@banzobeans Dear friend, a breath unit is the musical phrase that a singer sings without breathing in between. Something similar exists in modern poetry, when a poet writes an uninterrupted sentence without any comma which is concerived as a unti of meaning. Ciao

Julia sings this aria even better than Sybilla Rubens did on Koopman´s recording. I couldn´t believe that there would be ever a better version than Rubens/Koopman´s recording. You are amazing, Julia! The oboe part is spectacular as well!
It is Gallus Media, St. Gallen, and Stefan Ritzenthaler as the recording supervisor. We have worked together since the beginning of our recordings and are extremely happy.

@@konrad.bach4ever Good director sees everything and tells the choir to move 2ft to their left if need be. Got to be as skilled as the musicians. I'm just talking though. You guys do fine. Love that you're able to put these things up and love you guys for doing it. Pretty taken with Doyle. She reminds me of Caroline Weynants.

I love it! I love it! I really really love it!!!!!! Is a great great interpretation and Great aria!!!!!! Orchestra and director makes a sublime moment!
This is the aria that got me hooked on the cantatas. Only Bach could get away with setting a text which describes the soul resting when the body is covered in soil with such a melody. It's hypnotic. I see the resting instrumentalists swaying as if the oboe is the hands of a snake charmer. Bach's syncopation sets him apart from other composers. The pizzicato which is supposed to represent the funeral bells instead introduces a relentless swing. Whenever I hear this aria I picture a speakeasy. Ok, maybe a speakeasy with angels in the band and you've got the incomparable ms Julia Doyle on vocals. Thank you! Excuse me for not mentioning the recorders. If people weren't going to flame me for being inappropriate I would have said Bach's music is just so darn sexy.
By " Da Capo" the Pizzicatis are not really on time ( Cello and Bass are not together). But generally very good, the Oboist plays really touching, Soprano is also good. They run away in the mid part, such a thing isn't notified in the Music. One should be careful with the Notation of the Composer.
This is the very first BSt interpretation that I feel is bested by another version! I never thought this would happen. It is certainly excellent, but listen to this: th-cam.com/video/462E4pwifFw/w-d-xo.html
I would respectfully disagree - I watched your video to the end, and I would firstly argue that the wooden oboe (?) has the more pleasing and authentic tone, and more importantly, Ms. Doyle's singing is clearer and more precise than Ms. Werneburg's. My only criticism of this recording, and it's a small one, would be that the voice should be emphasised a little more.
Einer der schönsten Arien der ganzen Musikgeschichte. Zum Niederknien. Bravo.

Bach and Julia.
It doesn't get any better than this.
Stellar performance by both oboist and Ms. Doyle.
Bravissima la cantante Julia Doyle, complimenti bellissima.
Prachtig!

Bach has been really inspired by God in this wonderful aria...
Bedankt, Ruedi!
Fabulous committed performance, we are so lucky to have these. Superbly musical. Thank you!
Beautiful interplay between oboe and soprano. Nicely done.
Beautiful. Fine soprano singing.

Bach´s music is heartstoppingly beautiful AND just so darn sexy ! And and and - - - -
That the pizzicato represents the tolling of the bells seems a bit excessive to me.
Thank you a thousand times!

Why aren’t the choir and orchestral players ever listed on your website or videos? They matter too.
They are indeed all listed on Bachipedia as well las on our DVDs and CDs: www.bachipedia.org/werke/bwv-127-herr-jesu-christ-wahr-mensch-und-gott/
Great tempo!
Super super ❤
Who is the oboist? Beautiful work everyone!!
The oboist is Andreas Helm, one of our very appreciated solo instrumentalists.

Really missing your usual impeccable intonation on this one!

Wonderful. Lovers of this aria may also like the great old recording with Antonia Fahberg singing and Edgar Shann on oboe, led by Karl Richter.

It's a pity that the pizzicato Sterbeglocken should speed up the music. For the rest: beautiful
You can see what Julia would look like with long hair in this one.
The remark betrays the deplorable superficiality of its writer.
Intoxicating................
The recorders (almost) ruin it for me 😞

Men meget smukt......
