Thanks very much for a great video from a ex Taumarunui ite now living in Thailand. I boated the river many times both leasure and racing. I have some great memories. I do feel home sick.
Cheers I'm glad you enjoyed it, the jet boat is fun. I've stayed in and around Taumarunu 5 times now, usually because I've driven the Forgotten World Highway or ridden the Rail-carts on the old line to Stratford. It's a lovely part of the world, I'd miss it if it had been my home.
Wow ! such a joyful ride ! perhaps equally exciting as river rafting ( but very safe for elders )...I would've wished the journey never ended😃. Wonder how could you film it, & so well ! Thank you so much for sharing this exciting experience. can't wait for next part. Sounds equally exciting. Absolutely grrreat 👍
H Anjali, it was an amazing ride and it always surprises that most of the other participants in these adventures are the wrong side of twenty one, maybe it's because we just become more adventurous as we get older, or in my case it could be that the kids have let home and I can do things I couldn't afford in the past now there is just the wife and I to pay for.
Timsvideochannel1 You are so right Tim. If one is mentally & physically fit, this is the golden period of life with more time & money on hand. It's same everywhere. Thanks for sharing your thoughts
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the ride. I wanted to do the full river trip including the "Bridge to Nowhere", but I just couldn't shoe horn it into the scheduled, still on the bright, it gives me a good reason to return.
Well I've heard of the 'extreme sports' that the young go in for, - I would call this, one for the older ones amongst us, that looked very exhilarating. I bet the fellow at the helm knew that river like the back of his hand. I know how those boats work but with those passengers it must add a bit more than usual weight to them. Out of interest do you know how fast you were going, and the size (hp) of the engine. Really enjoyed the video.
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the ride. It was great fun and I was surprised by the average age of our fellow passengers, it just goes to show, we are never too old to have fun. I believe the top speed was around 85 kph (52 mph), but it felt a lot faster. The engine must have been pretty powerful, I tried the internet to find an answer, without any luck, but I found this article which you may find of interest - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jetboat
Thank-you for your reply, the speed you mention doesn't surprise me, I expected it to be in the high 40's by the way the scenery went past. I also noticed that most of the passengers had their hair-styles re-arranged for them, - (did the lady at the front have that cap glued on, or just some very strong clips on it -Ha Ha). I forgot to ask was their any other option to getting back to your starting point or was it a case of jet boat or walk ? The odd 'dummy' dinosaur in certain parts would really have made it look like "Jurassic Park". I did think the 'life jackets' rather amusing as I wouldn't have thought the river was deep enough to drown in, - (although I suppose if you are the wrong way up, and possibly disorientated), from falling out at that speed then anything is possible, or was it more of a 'safety' requirement.
These guys didn't advertise an option without the jet-boat on this tour, but they do offer other tours that don't involve the river. The life jackets were warm and comfortable and to be honest I was happier wearing one, even though for much of the trip the river was shallow enough to walk across. I think it is only a matter of time before dinosaurs will be seen hiding in the bush along the river, reflecting the Kiwi's great sense of humour.
Just found this on TH-cam for anyone who would like see how it used to be done - th-cam.com/video/P2H9ACoVOqk/w-d-xo.html
Then as now - just crazy! - Heinz

Thanks for taking us on the river again. The trips certainly get the heart going. lol. Did you go to the 'Bridge to Nowhere?' while you were here.

Do they still do these jetboat rides?
Hi Peter, I've just checked their website - www.forgottenworldadventures.co.nz/ the jetboat rides are still listed.
I think I saw an Orc...
That's got me thinking.
