My kids and I were supposed to be in Maui Christmas week but our flight got canceled. Watching your videos always puts me in Maui, I love your videos. My wife wanted to retire there but unfortunately God had other plans for her. I have 3 trips planned this year to Maui I feel it will connect me with her being there. Thank you for sharing with the world.
My wife and I are avid snorkelers and freedivers. We went with Redline back in 2016 out to Molokini. They also took us to the backside of the crater and it blew us away. Incredible clarity and you feel so insignificantly small, but I will say it is intimidating when you turn you back to the wall and look out into the deep blue ocean depths. Worth every penny and Redline was great. Your channel is great and have loved all the tips through the years. Cheers
We have gone snorkeling and snubbing many times at the Crater and never knew about the wall. We have been using a different tour operator leaving from Lahaina. Thanks for sharing a new tour operator.
Nice video. I have never snorkeled Molokini, but have dived there a few times- inside is nice, it I love the back wall- easy diving, get in and let the tide take you. Love seeing the sharks getting cleaned.
You guys rock. We went on a snorkel trip to Molokini under your recommendation with Kai Kanani; it was truly amazing. Now again, under your recommendation, will have to try Red Line tours next time we are on Maui. This year we head to Big Island for a week and Kauai for the second week. Keep the videos coming.
Went to Molokini once on a bigger tour boat, wasn't overly impressed, but this seems more my speed. Will give it a shot next time I'm back on Maui with my wife. Thanks for taking us along and Happy New Year (from Canada)!
Happy New Year! Erica loves tours but she especially loves quick tours. She liked getting there fast for more time in the water. Enjoy on your next trip to Maui! Stay warm!
Loved red line rafting and going to molokini! Actually the captain in the video was the same one I had in September when I went!! Did the 5 hour tour with them and it was great! Also your guys videos are phenomenal and a huge help when I came to Maui! Thank you for all you do!!
We've been to Maui 6 times, the last 3 visits we've tried to get out to Molokini, but each time the weather was too windy, hoping to get out there on our next visit, looks awesome!
Aloha just booked our 2 hour tour! I live here but always need suggestions on where to go, this Molokini Snorkel tour is perfect, especially during whale season! Thanks for your awesome channel, I recommend you all the time ☺️
Mahalo Danni! Thanks for watching and sharing. That means a lot that you watch as a local resident. Sometimes we all need a reason to get out and about in our own neck of the woods.
So jealous. Wife and I went to Maui the day after thanksgiving. Our tour boat got us out the first location and a motor blew out. So we never made it to Molokini Crater. Which was my #1 most anticipated thing of the trip. :( Hopefully we'll go back in Sept. Great video. Mahalo!
that is some bad luck! we had a trip to Molokini where the weather was weird and the crater and backside were bad. We left and it cleared up 20 minutes later, the other boats told our captain. I hope you can make it back in September!
love your channel, will be going to maui in the end of february, planning out our itinerary based on your channel. can you tell me what boat tour would you recommend for molokini if we're staying in kaanapali?
@@TheHawaiiVacationGuide maybe a device setting. IDK. We rented a boat ourselves and drove out to molokini and turtle town, but no turtles in turtle down. And the anchors are so deep underwater there that you borderline drown to get a hold of it.
@@aggiechase37 if that's the case maybe you shouldn't have rented a boat solo and perhaps you should go with a professional Captain, snorkel/dive boat operator and be shown the beautifulness that is molokini and the coast of Maui.. don't underestimate the local knowledge of a local professional. If you almost drowned trying to recover your "anchor", perhaps you mean underwater mooring? One pulls up an anchor from the boat, how do you almost drown? Again, amateurs, especially in a new and unfamiliar location, should go with local professionals. Don't underestimate local knowledge of local operators.. you'll be shown a better time.. Just saying
I saw in your other video that you only recommend tours for those who want the boat experience and can get the same experience from the shore. Do you still stand by that? I have tours to Lanai, West snorkeling cruise, Malokini and more but am wondering if it will be worth it compared to the shoreline.
shoreline snorkeling is great on Maui, especially during the spring to fall. If one loves to be on the water and can budget for a snorkel tour, then that is the best experience. If not, don't be dismayed with the shoreline snorkel options. Molokini and Lanai are unique experiences with crystal clear water, so I can no longer say you can have that experience from Maui's shore. I hope all that talk makes sense. Enjoy your boat tours!
It isn’t standard in the two hour tour. We got lucky as the conditions were good and folks were done snorkeling the crater early. Possible but not guaranteed
@@TheHawaiiVacationGuide Greatly appreciate your reply. I've booked the 4 hour tour, hopefully conditions are good that would enable to include the backwall as well. Mahalo!
Might be a be the time of year or conditions of that day but there doesn't appear to be that much fish in thjs video and you should be able to find places with that amount if fish newr the shore. Someone in the comments seem to mention a deeper more healthier part of Molokini.
We want some time ago into the crescent portion and there was not much to see at all. Big disappointment. Went back to the beach in front of the Waialea and saw so much more!
So sorry that whatever boat operator you went with on that day took you to a bad part of the inside of molokini. I personally have captained and run many scuba and snorkel boats to molokini as well as Maui and Lanai for over 30 years. Mid reef and reefs end, "inside" the crater, are spectacular. I think just maybe went to a poor spot or poor day and yes, we have some great diving off the shore of Maui, Wailea and many other places, as well.
Important safety tip. Follow what your guides tell you! The edges of the crater are great, however there are currents. I was caught in a current that had me working like mad not to be takend out of the crater and into open sea. On the good side, I was swimming in a school of barracuda holding station. They were as big as I am 6'2.
True you must listen to your captain / tour leader. And yes sir can be some currents.. But absolutely no barracuda, especially in Hawaiian Islands are 6ft 2in. Just saying
That is *not* the healthiest part of the reef... the other end of the crater is better. However, that part is shallower, so easier to snorkel. The other end is deeper, but even healthier, and occasionally you'll see some white tip sharks
