- Join us on an adventure as we take on the notorious Grouse Grind, one of North Vancouver's most iconic and physically demanding hikes.
The trail is approximately 2.9 kilometers (1.8 miles) long, with an elevation gain of about 853 meters (2,800 feet). It takes most hikers around 1-3 hours to complete, depending on fitness level and pace.
The fastest known time to complete the Grouse Grind is 24 minutes and 46 seconds, set by Canadian ultra-runner Jonathan Wyatt in 2012.
The Grouse Grind has been a popular hiking trail since the 1970s. It was originally a logging trail, and the switchbacks were added later to make the hike safer and less steep.
The most Grinds in one day stands at an incredible 19, set by Wilfrid LeBlanc.

Please don’t stop doing these videos. It really helps my anxiety before going on a hike blindly and AllTrails sometimes has mixed reviews.
I LOVE the real sounds and steady pace. Totally impressive, keep up the great work, and don’t change a thing!!
Thank you! It's comments like yours that give me the motivation to keep making videos. Much appreciated!
Wow!! I’ve always heard how hard and how beautiful Grouse is, but I will never be able to do it, so I really appreciate you posting this so I can live it through you! Amazing!
Thank you! I appreciate your comment, this is why I make these videos. Hoping others can enjoy the beauty too!
Oooh, tough hike , but rewarding !
Yeah it feels good when you're at the top!
What an amazing hike! Thank you for taking us along! The forest is so magical with the big ferns, moss and rocks, I expected to see fairies dancing around you! 🤣🧚🏻♀
If you look closely, there were a couple of fairies dancing around. They're quick though!
Great job! Should of gotten footage of the incredible view that you worked so hard for!
Next time! Was so foggy and raining hard at the top, couldn’t see a thing.
Beautiful video. Thanks for sharing. 👍9
Thanks for watching!
Congrats on 1k subs!
Thanks! Took a bit over a year
Yes, congratulations! 🎉
@@Kimberley7Thank you!! 😊
So how do you get back down. Nice work ckimbing all the way up, I gotta give it a try. Can you believe Daniel SEDIN hiked it 11x in one day.
Most people take the gondola back down. I hiked back down on the BCMC trail which runs parallel but is not quite as steep. No, I didn’t know that about Daniel, but doesn’t surprise me. He is a machine!!
I would love to go there next week but my body is way out of shape . I tried Lyn Canyon just halfway and I had muscle pain for 3 days! 🤣So, I will be content with flat trails for now 😅
All trails are good trails! Keep it up, increase the time and frequency spent on the trails and before you know it you'll be in great shape to handle any North Shore trail!
I felt that. 😢 You are a machine! 😮👍🏼
Thank you!
Whew - a very rugged trail, and uphill all the way !😅
Yes, no breaks on this trail.
Not what i imagined. Not to ateep at all
Not super steep, if you keep a steady pace it’s not too bad.
This is such a great video! The fact that you kept a steady pace was incredibly impressive! I was thinking about trying this for the first time and seeing how quickly I could do it so I appreciate your video showing the official beginning and ending of the trail since I'd probably skip buying a timer card. But most videos didn't show where the actual end was. But yours did so thank you!
Thanks for your comment. I noticed that about other Grouse Grind videos, there aren't really any that show the entire trail bottom to top so I thought I'd make one. I highly recommend trying it, it's actually kinda fun - just find your rhythm. You can either take the tram back down or hike down the BCMC trail which makes a great loop.
@@WalksOfWonder-BC For sure! I've been traveling up to Vancouver 3 or 4 times a year but never tried Grouse Mountain, but I'll definitely do it next time :) Thanks again!
@@WalksOfWonder-BC I did end up doing it! Managed to finish in 56 mins and 17 seconds. According to my app, my total time when I was stopping and not moving was 1 min and 49 seconds. That hour pace is brutal for sure! But definitely something I'd love to occasionally do again and see if I can go a bit faster. Thanks again for the create video, it was really helpful :)
Absolutely the BEST video I’ve seen on YT!!!! Everything was perfect (aside from that annoying guy running beside you every so often). Loved it!!!
Wow Thank you!! It wasn’t much fun making this video but I’m glad I did it 😂
What a stunning hike my friend, this looks and feels amazing! Absolutely amazing! 👏👏
Thank you - Yes the Grind is amazing. Hard work, but worth it.
I visited that mountain last year but didn't hike it because I had my 12 yr old with me. Well, that is the excuse that I used. You must have hell of heart and lungs.
Thank you! I think your 12 year old would have enjoyed it. I’ve seen a few kids doing it and they usually fly right past me 😂
yes thanks - did it many years ago so was curious . Love listening to your breathing - wish u had said the time and inntroduced yourself.
Thank you for watching! I started the video right at the card scanner and ended it at the top by the scanner so took about 58 minutes. Just a continuous grind the whole way up ☺️☺️☺️
I burned calories just by watching.
It's true, my heart rate increased when i watched it!
