It's not the coldest one could go (looking at a few countries, states, cities, and other locational places specifically...mainly winter in the middle of nowhere russia...and winter in alaska and winter in michigan...etc etc)...but it's still a good time to do cold rocky montage training to.
Hudson, don't loop the cable around your hand, because if you fail to lift the weight and it drops, your wrist will be tied in and you'll break it. I learned it with mountain climbing.

Exactly, running uphill in snow that is even just a couple of inches deep will give me total muscle fatigue(no longer able to continue) in the legs in about two minutes at a time when I was able to run on dry flat hard ground for miles.

Then when I maxed out and couldn’t do 1 single push up, I’d do regular pushups until I couldn’t do a single push-up again. Now I work all day and I’m out of shape. To be 18 again and have free food and lots of time...

Axe size doesn’t matter all that much. The profile of the head and the edge matter more than the size. I would rather work with a 2 1/2 lbs head because I can swing it forever.

There are still those who do this sort of things as their monthly salary. Imagine how strong they are? We do this as a rarely workout routine nowadays.
This is why farmers, lumberjacks, outdoorsmen, and like mainly people back in the day who never go to the gym or anything are so strong. Like this stuff is so much harder. I always love using the nature terrain as a workout, nothing gets you going more than a strenuous hike up the mountain

Rocky IV’s training montage made such a big impact on a lot of us Gen X kids of the Cold War. Was part of my inspiration to train and lift weights. Enjoyed the vid!
Rocky actually retired from boxing and had been out of form when he did all those workouts. Edit: And you also forgot to climb a freaking ice cold mountain.
After splitting many cords by hand on the homestead I can tell you chasing chickens into the bush is infinitely more dangerous for your eyes but it doesn't hurt to have protection to each his own I guess.
I literally did all of the tree ones as a kid. My dad and I had a side business selling firewood. I carried 300-400lbs logs on my back after we chain sawed them into 8ft pieces. Roll over the head and neck , then dump longways in a trailer. Loved it! For splitting wood, we used the hammer side of the axe, and a wedge or wood grenade. Mesquite green and only slightly dry is very hard to split.
Recommendation...clicked and had a good laugh, watched the police fitness test also and gotta say guys, good job in making fun fitness video's, keep it up!
Awesome vid guys! But I think these exercises are missing that's part of the Rocky IV workout : the extreme pull ups, extreme sit ups 6+ feet in the air with Paulie holding Rocky, and the leg extensions where Duke is sweating just from watching Rocky and telling him no pain
No actual trees were injured during the videoing. You have the strength, but your axe work lack technique. More extension in the arms. Love you guys! Very entertaining!
I think the axe choice was the problem. A larger head with a longer handle would have helped them with technique. That was more of a boys axe. Also a sharp axe helps. Basically a sharp felling axe.

Stallone has a long track record of getting injured during the making of films; tore his right pec training for Rocky II, broke some ribs in First Blood, literally bruised his heart in Rocky IV, and broke a vertebra in his neck for The Expendables. Say what you want about the quality of his acting/films, but dude tries to be "real" probably more than he should.
Real talk, that sled pull looked mad difficult on that terrain and in those shoes! 2nd toughest was setting up the log. It was almost like performing a steinborn press haha killer vid! slow mo retro montage anabolism FTW \m/
As a math teacher I can tell you that you could’ve chopped those trees faster using a longer/heavier axe. That one was too tiny for such big buff dudes. It’s all about momentum. Also, a knotted rope would be awesome for the tire pulling. Getting your hand entangled with the cable in one of those circles might cause some serious damage if you lose grip.
