You know a training scene is strong when it makes you want to get up and start kicking and punching along with the characters. I still think Kung fu panda is the best example but I see your point.

    • @sleepybandit23

Kung Fu Panda is easily the best imo that film doesn’t get enough credit for how genuinely well made it is

    • @biazacha
      @biazacha 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

The whole trilogy was made with such an open love for kung fu movies, they didn’t shy away from looking cheesy at times and that’s what make moments like this so genuine and engaging.

And I like how Kung-fu Panda even incorporated both montage techniques in their trilogy
      Student-Master dynamic:
Po training with Shifu in Kung-fu Panda 1
      Hero-Villain dynamic:
Po and Shen's training montage being juxtaposed together in Kung-fu Panda 2

The training montage is probably the most satisfying part of a sports or action movie. It's the mental tromploi of achieving months of works in minutes.

Plus the montage adds to the plot and character development. Donny sees that the whole hood supports him and a sick Rocky looks outta the window. Donny embraces his name and is ready for the fight. I'm getting chills just by writing this. Damn what a great movie!

There's a training montage in 1971's HANNIE CAULDER. It juxtaposes Raquel Welch lifting heavier and heavier rocks with the assembly of a custom gun for her to exact her revenge. My jaw dropped when I watched it, because I thought musical training montages began with ROCKY in 1976. It would be interesting to know what the first training montage was.

Plenty of training montages in most military movies so WW2 films (of the era or shortly thereafter) would include 'early' training montages. Maybe not all WW2 era films but certainly those that follow the 'raw recruits become a unit to undertake X" story lines.

@@StudioBinder Actually that montage shows a lot about bruce wayne/batman's character.
Determination( His heavy lifting, pushing was a sign of how he determined he was to kill superman or die trying. Well the training paid off in the warehouse.)
      Perseverance
Preparation( He studied superman's physiology and prepared the lead pellets so those could be used to distract him, even preparing kryptonite pellets and a spear while also studying how the mineral affects the man of steel.)
He is a strategist. It was shown in the beginning of the film that he was studying about him a lot to find out ways to defeat him.

You missed the funniest and most meta training montage of all time: TEAM AMERICA
    epic song "Montage"
    [Verse 1]
The hour's approaching to give it your best
And you've got to reach your prime
That's when you need to put yourself to the test
And show us a passage of time
    [Chorus]
We're gonna need a montage (Montage!)
Ooh, it takes a montage (Montage!)
    [Verse 2]
Show a lot of things happenin' at once
Remind everyone of what's goin' on (What's going on)
And with every shot, show a little improvement
To show it all would take too long
    [Chorus]
    That's called a montage (Montage!)
Ooh, we want a montage (Montage!)
In anything, if you want to go
From just a beginner to a pro
    You need a montage (Montage!)
Even Rocky had a montage (Montage!)
    [Chorus]
In anything, if you want to go
From just a beginner to a pro
    You need a montage (Montage!)
Ooh, it takes a montage (Montage!)
    [Outro]
Always fade out in a montage
