Yeaaaah. 700$ and it was splitting within the first 2 weeks and they damaged it on return. Why spend so much more for the name brand when vespa is just as good for 1/6 of the price
We need to keep posting videos like this until Microtech understands that people are tired of being given bad quality and bad customer service for a ridiculous price. The people that make excuses for them are just as much to blame. Thank you for your honest review!
I’ve bought two Chinese counterfeits of these, a Halo 5 & 6. The 5 about 6 years ago for $45 just to check it out as I couldn’t get a real one really out scored it. The Chinese 5 seemed ok till I tried a thrusting movement. It instantly collapsed like a movie knife. Recently I tried with a supposed Vespa on DH. It arrived in a nice box labeled Vespa. Inside was a counterfeit with Microtech labels. That sucked right there. I next tested a thrust and it collapsed!!! They’re NOT near the same. At least the 6 seems to work if you push the button a second time. You can feel it seat. Still, two out of two junk in basic function, forget the inferior steel.
@@stevek8829I don’t have nearly the same experience. I have about $5000 in Microtech knives currently - scarabs, CTs, UTs, Halos, etc. I carry my Vespa scarab over any of my Microtechs - partially because it’s cheaper and I’m not worried about it but also because it’s better. All the way around. It’s Austrian M390 (verified) and it’s 7075 aluminum. Go drop a Microtech from 3 feet on concrete - it’ll show you how soft and cheap their aluminum is. Their quality to cost is bad. Do I like them? Yes! I’m waiting to buy the new Atreus. I collect MTs but I have no hesitation calling a spade a spade.
@@stevek8829buddy, I have bad news for you. I have the same experiences with real Microtechs. All of my Vespas are better than all of my Microtechs and I mean that.
@@stevek8829Every single one of my Vespas is better than every single one of my Microtechs. I mean that. Out of the last 3 Microtechs I bought, 2 were defective and the customer service was nonexistent.
There has been an Italian manufacturer named LaVita back in the 90s and 2000s who made pretty decent Halo clones for about 300€. Sadly, they left business around 2012. I bought all of their Halo 5 & 6 clones back in the day which were available only in Austria and Italy, these knives even exceed the quality of the originals, zero tolerances even for the retracting bar, and perfect quality control, no issues to the day even after so many deployments. Vespa is really decent and perfect price/performance value, and there are still Angel blades, which rock for their moderate price. Actually I do not like Microtech´s overdone price tags, yet folks buy em just to have the original. Well...
My “Vespa clone” arrived as a Microtech labeled counterfeit, even though the box was labeled Vespa-nice box, crap knife. It’s a POS. For one thing the blade collapses easily unless you push the button a second time. You can be sure the blade is soft metal.
Thank you very much. This helped me greatly i hope. I spent 180 on the Dark Star otf in orange Also the halo 200$ one.they only have black available right now I was concerned with soending that much on a clone but the vespa all tested to be the correct steel
These are the best beaters for normal use, opening packages, sharpening pencils, cutting apples, as long as you can sharpen a blade their a good knife to have. Decent build quality, pretty reliable, and good looks as well.
Bingo! Great knife for the money. Sometimes they better then a microtech as I have own over $7K of Microtech i have many of them have major problems right out of the box aka Poor Craftsmanship
If I was you I would sell the real one and by five of the different ones they make such as the combat troodon and the others and you will be way ahead of the game and you certainly don’t have to deal with with that terrible customer service ever again if something goes wrong just throw it away and buy another one it’s a win-win situation for you now that you have uncovered the truth about clones and truthfully you only need to spend $61 because there more than good enough to give you years and years of use! Good luck with your future clones! And don’t forget to let us know how it all works out.
Truth...going to get all the different color clones for collecting and fun. Possibly, purchase the MT HALO real, deal with 3x different blade styles and be done with it.
Thanks for the review man really helps now the only one i wonder about is if the vespa clone of the scarab 2 will hold up to the real microtech scarab 2
For the money, the clones are as good or in some cases better, for what you pay from Microtech they should be gold plated and QC should be on point. They do it to themselves.
hey guys i recently got VI. I was wondering does anyone elses make rattling noises when its closed if you shake it? I have a bunch of V's and they do not do that.
From my world to yours, stainless steel is great for knife blades in terms of not rusting, but it's NOT the best material for sharpness due to the molecular properties of stainless. Even when sharpened to a razor hone, over time the keen edge will dull all by it's lonesome self! This is due to the molecular properties of alloying elements such as Chromium and Molybdenum, and there's nothing the end user can do about that. The higher grade knife stainless steels have more carbon (hardness and sharpness) than non-stainless, but they still lose their edge over time, whereas a so-called "carbon steel" blade such as 1095 series can be honed to razor sharp, packed away, and still be razor sharp years later. Think swords which are made with NON-stainless, carbon steel alloys because they need to be capable of taking a sharp edge while retaining ductility. Knife blades don't need a lot of "ductility" because they're short and can be made very hard, yet anti-rusting properties are paramount.
I noticed that! I put knives away razor sharp and I take them out years later and they're not quite as sharp. I thought I was losing my mind. But few passes on the strop brings them back quickly.
Wish sells the Microtech Halo clones with the Microtech logo on them for $43. You got ripped off with Vespa. Wish Halo’s look and work spot on to the real Halo’s even with Microtech logos. The Vespa or whatever is just a Amazon type brand.
Vespa uses titanium and Microtech grade steel and components so they are often tested as good or many times better than the microtechs. You are right that there are hundreds of other different clones using d2 steel and aluminum for the charging slider
I always wander…what if this sucker fires in your pocket…I guess that’s why they include the kydex sheet, and it’s not meant to be carrying it in a pocket..
i had a microtech hellhound, paid $300 for it and in less than 6 months the rail that holds the release button chipped off and left me with an unretractable blade with no button. Needless to say i will never buy a microtech product again because its the most expensive piece of junk i ever purchased, but its nice to see that there are companies making amazing clones and I even saw a video of a guy putting one to the test against a real one and was struggling to find a noticeable difference, not even the steel grade made a difference in real life applications.
I thought micro tec was already cheap ? Why clone a cheap knife ? Damn just heard the $600 price whaaaaa that’s .... interesting. Get a Medford instead
I sell the Halo VESPA clones if anyone is interested for $80 shipped. I know nobody knows me but you're welcome to pay by PayPal and if it didn't arrive you absolutely could do a claim and get your money back.
This is the most truthful and honest review. The difference are almost indistinguishable.

what about the price of 60 dollars for a Chinese clone right now?
considering how good vespa knives are, there 100% better than microtech for the simple fact that microtech are overpriced as balls
