@@justalilbester @epictommo a good warm up should be the rule, not only before every run, but also in all situations of our daily life, specially in the intimate ones 🫡
You have to do Bushy parkrun in Greater London! The home of parkrun, surrounded by deer in the park, very flat and just celebrated its 1000th edition. Usually around 1000-3000 people take part - stiff competition! It’s also the original site where the D-day landings were planned. Lots of history!
@@justalilbester you need to! It’s a beautiful park. Let us know if you’re coming, we can show you around! Course record is from 2012 which is 13:48 so good luck😂
If you’re ever in Western Canada, Millenium parkrun in Canmore AB might be one of the world’s most scenic and it’s one loop nestled in this gorgeous mountain town. Seasonal though and closed til the spring.
Would love to see you try Kingdom parkrun - lovely tranquil location with a really friendly crew. It's 3 circular laps up and down a hill, so would be awesome to see how you pace yourself on something other than flat runs such as the one in this video
I use parkrun for my threshold training. I usually do a 3km warmup including drills and I find this helps me get to the threshold heart rate (mine is 163bpm) quite quickly.
3:11 avg pace is insanely fast, damn. my fastest avg pace for 5k is 4:46. just want that sub 4min pace and get that sub 20min 5k, thats the ultimate goal !
You are really welcome to come to Minehead Parkrun Nick. We are very friendly and the course goes up and down the promenade with terrific views out to sea. I use that to distract me, especially kilometer 3 to 4. It would be great to see you here in Somerset.
Thanks for the warm up tips for parkrun. I love parkrun and I’ll recommend Brooklands parkrun near Weybridge. It’s a super fast and flat one. I think it’s on an old go cart race track.
I used your tips, especially the part about going all out in the fourth km, to improve my 5k pr by ~40 seconds. Unfortunately my local parkrun is so hilly it's not conducive to fast times
Canterbury parkrun! Also a 2 lap course and some pretty decent hills in there as well 😂 oh, and the hairpin turn you have to do twice. Should be an interesting race for you to get a good 16-min 5k. Usually has someone around the 17-18 minute mark as the winner
Chichester Parkrun is quite an up-and-down route and repetitive so quite a challenge, but a fun course to do and try as you are always able to see runners.... which is quite nice 😀
Notley park run in summer (there is a summer and winter course) has a killer hill at the 3K mark which is brutal hah would definitely be good for training 💪
Wolverhampton parkrun another quick one. Again, it's 3 tarmac laps like at Walsall which I also recommended, wide paths. Course record there is 14 mins 17 seconds.
Hi Nick I just wanted to say that I love your channel, I find it very inspiring to watch runners such as yourself who love the sport of running. I really enjoy listening to tips that you provide as I am new'ish' to running, I started just over a year ago and have improved lots. Still don't understand what I should be doing next to take my speed to the next level, I really want to be as fast as you one day. Currently I have a PB of 41:36 for 10k and my overall goal is to be in the 30mins bracket/ just as fast as I can be as I want to compete for trophies 💪 I am very competitive, have ADHD so I am always full of energy 😂 and I am very determined when my mind is set on a goal. Do you offer coaching as I would love you to coach me to my goal and offer me personal tips on how to improve from your years of experience that you have 💪🏃🏻 Thank you for reading this... YOU ARE AWESOME NICK!! Keep up with the running you are absolutely smashing it 💪🏃🏻
Recommend Walsall Arboretum parkrun. 3 flat tarmac laps in a beautiful park. Course record there is 14 mins 12 seconds, it's super quick. It is still possible to view the course records and the fastest 100 male and female at each course via the stats in the 5k app. If you know where to look, it's easy to view them. Plus age grade records.
How are you able to go all out on these 5K runs? It’s so impressive. Does it start with trying to see how long you can run fast for shorter intervals, then try to extend them? I feel like I hold back during my 5K in fear of gassing out and having to walk. Great video and congratulations on breaking the 2:20 mark! 🎉
Try to get to Hastings Park Run Nick, be great to see you there, if you can beat the course record of 14.14, set by Adam Clarke, I will buy you a pint 😁
Hi Nick. Quick question do you like trail running? I absolutely hate it 😂, I find you always have to watch where you’re stepping which really bugs me 😅
I have a 30 min walk to my Parkrun, 3.75km @ 75m climbing - would that count as sufficient warmup or should I do something once I get there? The Parkrun itself is another 70m total climbing, so definitely get a good workout in whatever my time ends up being!
Best piece of kit to have is a chest strap heart monitor for training. Heart rate is good measure of exertion. Controllling this allows you to progressivly adapt to greater running stress as pace and duration increase while also avoiding injury. Building an aerobic base through low heart rate training over time while concentrating on improving running mechanics for better energy efficiency are the key. Worked for me. There are no quick fixes. My local parkrun has a lot of hills and turns which i see as a positive as it builds strength and endurance essential for running faster times on other flatter courses. Warm ups also elevate heart rate and blood flood with oxygen to muscles to avoid a massive heart rate spike and that near death feeling caused by oxygen demanding muscles early in a run. Therefore warm up well just before you parkrun to run a PB. Mingling and socialising at parkruns are better left till after the run is over.
Km 2-3 is the hardest in my opinion. 0-1 you’re getting in the groove. 1-2 you’re knocking out that first mile. 2-3 is halfway BUT still a long way to go. 3-4 you hit the second mile. And of course the last km doesn’t count.
Someone was found dead in the middle of the field. Can't believe some people were moaning at the police for closing it off. Absolute selfishness personified
I think you should do the Great Yarmouth park run Nick, it's definitely the hardest one I've ever done! Love the videos and well done on breaking 2:20
The dog at 15:27 was giving it a full send!
🤣 I know right. Noticed that too. Going 19kms an hour and the doggie was doing double the speed.
Would love to see you at the Chelmsford park run - I believe it’s one of the best attended park runs in the country !
Well, there's Bushy parkrun of course.
And here I am super happy with my 38.55 PB! 😂😂😂😂😂
100% proper warm up has changed my park runs 💪
Good to hear! It makes a massive difference. Even more so in the winter months.

Such a winning parkrun that 😍

Great advice as always thanks👍 For a parkrun I would suggest black park in Berkshire nice run through the woods.
Could be really good for footage too 🎥 thanks
