Ordered the #55 pound version when this was posted. After a month of use I am completely satisfied with the bow. Super compact when folded, so fun to shoot. Got the free string as well. Highly recommend.
when you dry fire a bow, the energy that you transfer from potential energy to kinetic, the arrow isn't there to absorb the energy an carry it along with it. without an arrow, it causes a lot of strain on the bow itself.
My boyfriend got me this bow for Christmas because of this video! I'd been saying I used to shoot bows, and I missed it - and he thought this one would be fun for me! Thanks for making the video. :D
wanted to say thank you for such a comprehensive video, this was my selling point for this item. I was sure that when I ordered mine I made sure to tell them I saw it on twang n bang. thanks again and keep doing what your doing
No kidding! :) It turns out that many bow companies really don't get the whole TH-cam thing, but these guys do. I also just got a Hickory Creek Vertical Crossbow delivered yesterday, so there are more bow vids on the way!
TWANGnBANG It was sold, the moment you used that bow to smash a Watermelon like that. Now onto reviewing laws and legislation on owning a bow in where I live. Hopefully it isn't illegal.
I've made a recurve with 3/4" schedule 40 PVC, runs about 50# at my draw length and really performs quite well for what it is. Excellent improvised weapon in my opinion.
Wow! What a cool idea! That really is the archer's answer to the take down rifle concept. I bet it wouldn't be all that hard to retrofit some sights to that bow if you felt the need.
I have a 55lb version and it is solid. Only upgrade you must do is add a nocking point in your preferred method and location. I also picked up the bow sling on the PG unlimited site which helps with transport. Great review.
@@shotguunwolf9365 the bit on the bowstring where you rest the arrow on, either putting it under or over depending on preference. That way the arrow goes straight.
I love the Ruger 10/22TD, but I wouldn't get an AR7 even though on paper it seems to be a great rifle. The 10/22 is a known performer with easy fixes for any problem it might have. The AR7s are temperamental, and some have issues that just won't straighten out (like the one I have). I really think everyone who plans for SHTF needs to have a bow, and this is the bow I'd recommend at this point.
I got my bow about a week ago and I gotta tell ya, this is the most fun I've had w/ $186(Bow+3 arrows+S&H). I wish my finger calluses would build a little faster, it's hard to stop myself from shooting once I start even w/ finger tips hurting me lol. But the calluses are coming along nicely. Got a caliper release to use when fingers really need a break.
+TWANGnBANG built up the calluses. Just got the bowfishing version in. And ordering a quiver to gorilla glue to it. I just gave the old one to my brother-in-law who can't stop shooting it. What do you have on their for your rest?
Start close and work your way back. You'll get the hang of it in no time. Be sure to wear an arm guard until you get used to shooting without slapping your wrist with the string.
I shoot suppressed here, but if I'm not shooting in the woods, I'm shooting at 37PSR & Gun Club in Bunnlevel, NC. I love that range even though it's an hour away from me.
Cool review. This is perfect for what I'm looking for! A bow that can be stowed on a smallish, jam packed with gear, long haul cruising sailboat on the great lakes. There's so little available storage space that everything needs to break down, James Bond style.
TWANGnBANG Hehe thx! I'm so looking forward to next season. One of my favorite things is making landfall on remote, uninhabited islands in northern WI, MI and Canada. With a small dingy, there's some opportunities for bow fishing, maybe small game and most of all, having fun. Lot's of bang in a small package and a great way to get back into some archery after 25yr. I love well though out, engineered and mfg equipment that allows you to take full sized capability into the middle of nowhere. Oh, and this has way more balls than a survival slingshot without much more volume.
Good point, though steel and aluminum are mixed all the time in the firearms world without problems. You might know more about bimetallic corrosion than I do, though.
Received mine a few months ago. 50lb draw, shot around 300 arrows with it at this point. It's simply fantastic and I agree with TnB here, its just plain fun to use. About the only things I noticed was a bit of hand shock with long session use, which can happen with any longbow. I tossed a gel padded bike glove in the case and worked on adjusting my grip and that seemed to eliminate the issue. Riser felt doesn't last long and requires replacement, swapped with bear hair and it works good. In a survival situation I can definitely rely on this bow. If you're on the fence about the purchase just do it. You won't regret it.
Great video, i have one at 55lbs and i love my folding bow. I use it for my main bow, its not just for survival. its a everyday bow as well and great for hunting and target shooting.
She's my dog's "girlfriend," and our neighbor is having some work done to the inside of their house. So, they bring her by every day to hang out with our Malinois. My dog is so used to me making videos that he doesn't care anymore. However, she likes to lie down just off camera and quietly watch me doing my thing. She obviously thought the watermelon getting smashed was worth coming over for, but I don't mind. She's a total sweetheart.
The arrow dampens the bow in critical ways. Without it, the string can jump the limbs (or cams in a compound), and the limbs can crack or delaminate. Since the limbs are solid fiberglass in this bow, they can take a lot more abuse than laminated limbs. However, you still don't want to push your luck with any bow- I did this simply for the purpose of testing its durability for the same reason I ran it over with my truck.
I only have mechanicals right now, but a bow like this needs a cut-on-contact broadhead. At 180fps, it should not have a big problem with broadheads at all.
Primal Gear suggested it because many of their customers actually mention the fact they could use it as a weapon if they couldn't deploy it fast enough. That's not really my deal, but TWANGnBANG don't judge, and I thought it would make for some good video. :)
Hi, I'm from a different school of archery, I do traditional Kyudo archery, it is a bit different since we shoot on a long bow...that's is somewhat similar to a recurve bow. I've been interested in doing more archery though, more for fun but still prefer the idea of shooting instinctively. I really appreciate your review, I think I'll be purchasing one, as I wanted to get a traditional style bow but I like the idea of a bow that I can travel with and keep compact but expands large to shoot with.
Holy shit man. 50# and 55#? That's pretty impressive. I assumed that since it has this breakdown feature that it would make the limbs much weaker than that. And I was also worried about the bolts being able to hold the limbs down properly. Great video man, great review.
Not complicated at all. Recurves are a little more forgiving with your draw length, but I know that Primal Gear has sold plenty of these who have never shot a bow before. Call them on the phone and talk to them about what you need to get started, including target, armguard, etc.
That's really the direction I'm trying to go with my channel. There are so many great products out there that people don't really know about, and I have a lot of fun introducing stuff like this to my viewers. Thanks for watching!
ditto; no pun intended! gallagher redux; great bow for bkpckng;and for getting home in a shtf scenario. its easier to make arrows from dowels etc; than to try making bullits. thanks for the great video
Only sold direct. It's too bad you didn't watch this video before the meet-n-greet. I had it there for people to try. If you are used to shooting recurves, you might be taken aback a bit by the stacking, but all long bows do that. Other than that, though, this is a really fun bow to shoot regardless of its ability to fold up. Call up Primal Gear, tell them you saw the video, and ask if they will let you try it and return for a refund if you don't like it.
TWANGnBANG You're very welcome! Can't believe it....the very first time I ever answered a video on utube and I get into contact with someone, who maybe has the same roots...crazy things happen in the world! 'The Lord bless you and keep you'! BTW, "...when things might not be going as smoothly as they should" - this is what i meant: fine, dry sense of humor *lol*
Great review and cool dry fire! I've never done that with a real bow and was always curious what it would do in real life. I'm sure other bows wouldn't hold up to that stress. This looks like a good product.
A baseball analogy would be swinging at a fastball with a bat as hard as you can. Hit the ball, and everything is great. Miss the ball, and your body has to deal with the undampened energy of that bat trying to get around your body with all of its original energy. The ball takes energy with it away from the bat, making it easier to deal with in your followthrough. The arrow does the same thing for a bow, taking energy with it so the bow doesn't have to absorb it.
That was hilarious! You mention that the bolts are steel threaded into aluminium. One thing I would be interested is the potential for galvanic corrosion between the two metals over time especially when exposed to chloride (saltwater for example). They have it priced just right for what they offer. You'll have to spend more to get a better bow in general, but you won't find a better *survival* bow at any price.
That's definitely an awesome survival bow. This would make a great addition to anyone's survival bag. Thanks for the review. Gave a big thumbs up ("LIKE") to this vid!
Dave Canterbury killed a Yak with one of these bows. With the right broadhead and good shot placement, she could take any game animal she wanted with it.
Matt, we live in southeast Georgia and mine has been riding in the back of my car all summer to test just this. Everything has held up great, may want to check the string integrity(you always should before using) it may need a little wax.
How is the bow for hand shock? Also is the grip very rectangular? I find regular recurve riser grips very uncomfortable but I like the hill style ones... Is this similar to a hill one but more rectangular?
I agree, ive heard some bad things about the ar7 plus i cannot get over the fat grip. I have been checking for a older bolt action single shot with the theory of less parts are better.
Thank you TWANGnBANG for the awesome Bow review. I would like to mention to your viewers if you mention in your order notes you saw the TWANGnBANG video you will receive a free string.
The fact that it doesn't look like anything valuable or threatening when folding was something I forgot to mention in the video. That's a big plus for a lot of people, for sure.
My friend, you have just sold me on this bow. Thank you. quick question, how is this ergonomically? would you be confident in shooting 100+ arrows in 1 session without worrying about blisters and the like? please advise, thanks, ~L
LoyceD Shooting any bow with your fingers alone is going to be rough. You'd want to get a shooting glove and an arm guard. That said, there isn't anything about this bow that is different from any other as far as that goes.
TWANGnBANG nice. i guess thats what happens when you go to man size bows lol... last question - "twangnbang" is that a coupon code? i tried checking out with it but didn't recognize it, so i'm holding out. i'd like to give you any sort of commission or credit for your endorsement, if possible. and yes... my next purchase will be a crossbow, also one you've endorsed haha
This is a pretty awesome bow, and it's actually no more expensive than most traditionally styled take-down bows at around $149.95! If you want some more info Dave Canterbury also has a good video about this bow on his WildernessOutfitters YT channel. (Use his PATHFINDER promo code when you order the bow from Primal Gear Unlimited's website, and you'll even get a free spare string!)
Ordered the #55 pound version when this was posted. After a month of use I am completely satisfied with the bow. Super compact when folded, so fun to shoot. Got the free string as well. Highly recommend.
Glad you enjoy the bow!

Yep!
OMG, I thought of the same foldable bow concept as a kid. Glad to see someone thought about it too and took it many steps further.
This is one of those products that I unabashedly endorse. It is fun and practical, and priced just right.

TWANGnBANG It was sold, the moment you used that bow to smash a Watermelon like that. Now onto reviewing laws and legislation on owning a bow in where I live. Hopefully it isn't illegal.

Thank you for uploading this video, this bow looks awesome. I think I just found the #1 item on my Christmas wish list this year lol

I got them through Primal Gear. They are V Force V6 arrows by Victory, 400 spine. I can't find my grain scale to weight them, though.
They even make take-down arrows which I will feature in another video. It is a very good system for a GHB.
It's a fun bow, plus it's a great survival tool. Tough to beat that for what they're charging.
funny that you posted this. Ive been looking at those two 22 take downs last week and then thought to myself i should get a survival bow.
Now, thats quality right there.
The watermelon surprised me at how it completely disintegrated like that, but it sure was fun.
It's always a pleasure to watch your videos! Really informative, always with a twinkle in your eyes.... get on with it :-)

This bow and a few arrows could easily fit into a case with a takedown 10/22 + ammo. Good find.
Mike Mac Yes, but not in the case that is included with the 10/22 TD. I tried, and it's about an inch too long. :(

last question - "twangnbang" is that a coupon code? i tried checking out with it but didn't recognize it, so i'm holding out.
i'd like to give you any sort of commission or credit for your endorsement, if possible.
and yes... my next purchase will be a crossbow, also one you've endorsed haha
LoyceD Not a code as much as something you mention in the order comments to get a free extra string.
It's a really great product.
I cringed when you dry fired that bow. haha
