There are plenty of misconceptions here. The first being the issue with 4 vs 8 simultaneous battles. This doesn't actually mean it takes longer, the longest lasting battles are the ones between the strongest players, which will happen regardless if there are 4 or 8 battles happening at the same time. By the time they're finished fighting basically everyone did the same, be it 8 or 4 battles happening. Also, Dota Underlords has an attacker-defender system, which means you could attack someone, as in send your troops to defeat them, while you're defending against someone else who is attacking you. That makes for a much wider range of possibilities as you don't need to defeat the guy you're attacking, you just need to survive whoever is attacking you. This has huge implications. The other misconception being that Dota underlords doesn't have a shared hero pool. Assuming it goes for the same system as Auto Chess, throughout the entire game heroes are in a shared pool. That has huge strategic implications since if you're using the same hero that I'm using, we're both at a disadvantage against the rest of the players since we'll be sharing upgrades.

Gotta disregard some facts to make dota underlords look bad it seems. Then also ignores the fact that tft literally copied dota auto chess when comparing both games. Having a map, items, "alliances", and couriers aren't the only elements of auto chess. It has so much room for creativity yet riot somehow came up with the same elements as dota's. Clearly didnt copy from dota lol!

Yea after @Redox first argument I already knew this comparison is horse shit, it doesnt matter how many battles there are at the same time, whole round will take as long as the ONE longest battle, doesnt matter if there are 1000 players or 2, more players only increases probability of longer game but in 99% cases it wont be significantly longer.

I played Dota Underlords first, tried TFT later. What was nice in Dota Underlords was the possibility to play a tutorial vs bots at my own pace, the learning was so much easier. The character models on board and in the shop look virtually the same, so easy to spot what character you want to buy, also they have a highlight in a form of a star above their head in the shop, so you know this is a char you already have, so easy to spot...
You can equip chars with items that you can later trade to another char, in TFT the char is stuck with the item you give them, until you sell them (afaik). I really enjoy playing Dota Underlords, even if there may not be as many "team comps" as in TFT.
I tried TFT, mostly because of friends.... Coming from Dota Underlords, you would think it would be an easy transition.. There was no Tutorial or possibility to fight vs bots, that was one thing I was missing. So I started to play Normal games, at start it feels super confusing, chars in store are shown in form of a card, so you can't really "see right away" what chars you are buying (I understand, that after playing multiple rounds you may pick that up, but at start it is not exactly user friendly). The board in form of Hexagons, don't really mind that. Me controling a char on the board and clicking to pick up coins and items.... Yeah right, extra clicking I do not enjoy... picking chars from a pool every round X... No thank you... TFT to me looks like it was made in year 2000 (graphic wise), so Dota had more appealing chars to me (and Yeah, I am all about looks..). Seeing alliances and their bonuses desription was WAY easier to me in Dota Underlords.
So all in all, for me it is Dota Underlords, because of its simplicity, easy to understand, more appealing graphics, less clicking, less combinations of teams (can be a bad thing I admit).
I really tried to look up some videos of TFT to kind of "get into it", because before I did the same for Dota Underlords, where I saw TH-cam videos from Swim and quill18 and they were dynamite. After finding 3 beginner videos for TFT I was unable to understand 2 of them, and the 3rd I stopped watching after we got into around 7th round fighting vs other players and to me the graphics is just unwatchable.
If I never had played any of the two games, I would have liked to start TFT and then Dota Underlords, to see if my view would be different, but I highly doubt it.

Personally, I don't like Dota, I have played League for 10 years and it's still my go-to. Having said that, Dota Underlords is a MUCH more enjoyable experience than Teamfight Tactics. I find TFT to be clunky and heavily RNG dependant. It also has some glaring balance flaws right now (Draven anyone?). Dota Underlords absolutely nailed the system, yes the UI isn't absolutely perfect but the Graphics are far superior, the gameplay is much more consistent and balanced and does heavily depend on your own choices rather than RNG. Yes there's an element of RNG too, it's an auto-battler but nowhere near as much as TFT. I found myself not enjoying TFT at all, it was actually quite a chore to play whereas with Underlords I actually lose track of the time pretty quickly.
Overall Dota Underlords is a way better game right now and I can feel quite unbiased saying that since I am a huge League of Legends fan - Sorry but this time Dota actually did do it better. Way better.

His team setup was vastly superior to my own at that point and they completely destroyed me every fight. However, on his side he was actually losing to my team as well, making me eventually win the match... How is it possible for me to get completely destroyed in my fights and still win the game? Seems to me there are some issues there because that makes absolutely no sense.

    • @AJTheriot3

honestly it probably comes down to how the units attacked. The battles are very snowbally, likely in the last stages where you are top 2 you can roll over your opponent if your units do the right things or vice versa. So its actually pretty cool that the units can have different interactions from battle to battle. Especially if there are some effects in play that only happen a % of the time. Maybe in your battles you lost your units sucked ass at getting on the better end of those % but in your opponents defense they also got unlucky with the % modifiers.

Runaans in league gives you a (certain, not sure what) percent extra damage on people you arent auto attacking, but it changed to a 50 percent chance to hit someone else on the board!
Bassically, Runaans is kinda core on Ashe normally, but i'd deffo take it on Garen because he is way stronger than Ashe in TFT. Same goes for MOM in dota 2, or autobattle, theres just this sublte diffrence in passives!

the playerbase of underlords transitions instantly from dota auto chess which is already massive in china, but whether or not they go from dota / drodo chess to underlords is a different thing

I actually disagree. I don't believe majority of people transition to another game in the same genre. Mainly hardcore fans of the genre would. But only if the new game is better. I'm sure Dota Underlords will be popular on mobile. However League is owned by Chinese company and the most popular game in Asia. Therefore it wouldn't be wrong to think that TFT might also gain a huge fan base in Asia too. However riot will be marketing it for the western audience, plus it's on pc. Games on pc are more streamable than on mobile atm. So I could see TFT taking over the auto chess, while Dota Underlords being in top 3 as well.

On top of that Dota Underlords reviewers said that the game has too many bugs, constantly crashing on phones and said it's overall worse experience than auto chess. I really don't see how this is going to compete with TFT which is not even out yet, but already has more people waiting for it. The problem with mobile games, there are simply way too many choices nowadays. You start playing it for a week or two, but then you forget about it. It's better to release mobile version after it gets more popular on other platforms like pc etc. If they release it on steam, it won't as popular. There are too many other games filling up the space. And if there are two successful games of the same genre, people tend to focus only one of them not both. I'm sure people would download Dota Underlords to try out but probably jump ship once TFT gets released.

    > first 2mins
    > underlords takes 40mins and TFT takes less than 30minutes.
This youtuber is either so misinformed or corresponding to its name, completely bias.
Valve has taken significant measures in lowering playtime to less than 30minutes for mobile users.
