Looking back, I find that it's necessary to note that this video is how I found out the BHS and all of these fantastic quartets existed. I wouldn't be where I am today if I didn't stumble past this gem. Always great to come back to it. Looking back on my life in a tough time, I'm glad I found this. Thanks to the poster.
This version beats their concert performance because of the setting, spontaneous nature, and just the feeling of fun with the close-up audience. Unbelievable how great music can sound when people love to sing.
Haha, I love the lady who says "Oh my God" at the very end -- so spontaneous and deserved by that performance. I also agree with 2Ken99M... the Dans obviously love barbershop to be doing what they do, so I have to believe they were loving every second of this. There is nothing like hearing that sound, up close...
I can't imagine what went through the minds of the Dans , "hey we're a barbershop quartet , may we sing you a song ?" and then ring ring ring ring them chords and WOOOHOOO ! what a tag !...
This is one of the closest examples I've come across that allows a listener to hear what it's like to stand 5 feet from a World Championship Quartet and listen to them sing sans microphones and sound stages. I've had the extreme pleasure to listen to a few in my day. Acoustix, The Most Happy Fellows, Nightlife, Revival, Realtime, Gotcha.....there is no better way to appreciate it...thanks for posting this...I've enjoyed it many times over the years.
"These guys still are very good"? Go to 2009 International Quartet Champions, to be more specific "Lucky Old Sun," for the greatest quartet performance I have ever witnessed.
I love how at the end the vendor behind them is just like "whoa, what just happened?" Awesome impromptu performance by an awesome quartet - my wife and I were serenaded by the Dapper Dans while we were honeymooning at Disney World - different style than traditional barbershop and wonderful group of guys for people that havn't been singing together for years and years.
The fact that you can hear the ring in the tag so clearly, on a 16 year old video, filmed outside in a theme park, tells you everything you need to know about the sheer vocal badassery of these fellas
This is one of my favorite things seen in all of the barbershop that I now just listen to. This is a quartet of really good singers who know how to lock chords with all the distractions, sounds of the crown, etc. around...didn't matter. Great work by a great quartet!
I actually searched the Dans cause I had wondered if anyone had ever went and challenged them to a Shop Off. Like, friendly competition. But this blew my mind. Just a world class quartet like this, in vacation clothes, on the streets of Disney, who didn't need to sing but wanted to share what they can do with fellow minds. That's called brilliance.
wow just wow, looked and found more recent vids and only got better but this was the best. it helps to be on vacaiton and not in front of judges lololol
Another thing, for me, that makes this even cooler is the fact that these guys are wearing tshirts. Is that weird? It makes it all the more impressive, not being all fancy in matching suits- just walking up and just laying it down...
No, Crossroads quartet were not the voices of the singing busts in the Disney film The Haunted Mansion with Eddie Murphy. They were actually five members of the Dapper Dans that performed. Jim Campbell, Shelby Grimm, Bob Hartley, Bill Lewis, and Tim Reeder.
I the first couple frames, on the right, you can see Pat Claypool and Shawn York who are two members of the 2008 International Quartet Champion, OC Times.
@@johanbrand8601 "Technically speaking, any frequency greater than the primary frequency of a certain sound is called an overtone. Another way of putting it is overtones are higher pitches produced by the lowest or fundamental note. Usually, the fundamental note is the sound you hear prominently, but its overtones are always there." So what's happening here is the last chord is actually producing OTHER pitches in the chord structure solely due to how the actual SUNG pitches are interacting. Example...on the very last note, after Jim finishes his solo bit, you can hear a really high pitch...one that's higher than what Fred (the big guy on the left) is actually singing. It's glorious.
Huge fan and have seen them perform in halls arranged for better accoustics but love how they sound in this clip. I appreciate the Dapper Dans for what they are but ....'love them more'......???????
you don't think the Dans knew who they were when they walked up? If they weren't getting paid, they probably would've given Crossroads their pinstripes and straw hats right after that overtone stopped ringing off of Cinderella's castle...GAAAAWD
SPEBSQSA (I think thats the acronym) Which stands for: The Society for the Preservation and Education of Barber Shop Quarter Singing in America. The have a website. I think their convention where they have the competition for world champion quartet is bi-annual.
The E stands for Encouragement. The Society has since been renamed as the Barbershop Harmony Society, and their competitions are held every July. Crossroads here are the 3009 International Quartet Champions.
I'm sure the guys in Crossroads were just in the park and decided to sing for the Dapper Dans. This is not an uncommon occurrence. Lots of barbershoppers like to go sing for or sometimes with the Dapper Dans.
At the very beginning of the video, you'll also notice half of OC Times standing next to Brandon. Shawn York has a video of this same performance on his channel. I'm thinking this may be in Orlando during the same time as an international, but that's just a guess...
Those harmonies were tight as fuck. Mean while Miley Cyrus is getting paid millions to swing half naked on a wrecking ball to some lame ass 4 chord instrumental track. What the fuck is wrong with the world.

I love this comment.
You are welcome and thank you for thanking us! This certainly was a memorable moment...glad it helped you, that means a lot to hear!

The general public: “Wow the dapper dans are really good!”
Jim Henry: “hold my fanny pack”
Haha this comment 😂
The best!!!! LOL

The "rest" at 2:14 is so tight! That's unbelievable!

Still watching in 2022
Crossroads does an amazing job on "lucky old sun", must watch. The ending is awesome.
Yes, yes, yes! Makes me tear up every time.
"These guys still are very good"? Go to 2009 International Quartet Champions, to be more specific "Lucky Old Sun," for the greatest quartet performance I have ever witnessed.
I love their smiles at the end, they knew they did a good job :)
This might be my favorite tune and quartet ever!! Close race between them and Vocal Spectrum and Gas House Gang...hm...something in common here.
The lady at the end, Oh my God!..... priceless
Hey thats Crossroads signing. They are the 2009 international barbershop quartet champions!!!!
I love these guys and their music. I wish them the best.

"Oh, my Gawd!"
- Mickey Mouse
C.K. Blackwood I don't think that was Mickey but that was my reaction!
Was I the only one expecting a battle between them and the guys at Disneyland?
Nope
Yup! We Barbershoppers only do that in Competition! We see our brothers and Sisters(Sweet Adelines) and love to sing anywhere!
*World
The Dapper Dans are fun, really fun but could never stand against Crossroads... and would never try. There’s nothing but respect there.
@@jeffhathaway6515 you obviously don’t know the Dapper Dans. Some of them are International Gold Medal winners themselves
This video brings me such joy!
I watch this often. It makes me smile. I am impressed by the harmonies EVERY TIME I HEAR IT. I can't believe I am not sick of this yet!
Holy Christ....the overtones on the last note....awesome!
the bass at the end......amazing!!!!
LOL! I love the Dapper Dans of Main Street! This is so awesome!😁
I hope people realize how legendary this is.
wow, now how cool would it be to stumble upon these guys singing like that on your trip to disneyland. they're amazing!
I'll feel bad for the Dapper Dans. They had to continue doing there job after everyone heard that.
Lmao I thought the exact same thing
wow just wow, looked and found more recent vids and only got better but this was the best. it helps to be on vacaiton and not in front of judges lololol
WOW!!!! JUST WOW.
Damn. That's an amazing performance for just a little pickup, spir of the moment kind of thing. Sounds really great.
They are not just a barbershop quartet! They are the current international champion quartet!
19 people don't have even the tiniest patch of heaven.
such an awesome dying art... I'll bet they dug it
Gad....can you imagine the Dans..."We have to follow THAT??"
Awesome!
damn. the "there's room in the nest" line is so beautiful. oh man.
God I love these guys! I would travel across the course to see them perform.
That was GREAT! Thanks for sharing it !
Its so nice to see people showing off true talent. Great jobs you guys
Well done sirs.
Even with all the background noise and the somewhat iffy sound quality, the chord at 2:32 gives me chills.
These kinds of music genre gives me more joy than any other music genre
*everyone starts clapping*… they wasn’t ready for that ending! Crossroads are amazing.
Another thing, for me, that makes this even cooler is the fact that these guys are wearing tshirts. Is that weird? It makes it all the more impressive, not being all fancy in matching suits- just walking up and just laying it down...
This was actually the next day (Sunday) AFTER their win the night before...they took all of their families (wives and kids) to Disneyland for the day.
This video was taken in 08. They won in 09. This was before they won!
That tag was incredible...
this is amazing, i miss florida and what i would give to go on a day like this too see such heroes in action :)
I know those guys. I see you Mr. Slamka. And Mr. Dorosa is an awesome bass
Jim Henry on bass, you mean ;)
Did everyone see Brandon grab his arms at the end? GOOSEBUMPS!
My introductory video to barbershop outside of dapper dans.
Omg
That was amazing!!!!!
I the first couple frames, on the right, you can see Pat Claypool and Shawn York who are two members of the 2008 International Quartet Champion, OC Times.
Amazing! Thanks for posting!
That was so good
This was amazing! Very talented.
Fred looks like such a dad, with the sunglasses on his head and the Bears t-shirt
lololol anyone else hear one of the dapper dans say 'i'm taking my hat off' at the end of this vid? bahahahah
What a treat!!!
Oh. My. God.
SO AMAZING~!!!!!
I Love these guys!!
overtones all over the place outdoors, terrific
Un-freaking-real
I don't understand what you hear. I do hear an amazingly solid major chord and that's what matters.

I just?......WOW!!!!
oh i wish i could hear the GHG sing together one more time... no one can beat them
Beautiful
If this kind of music were more popolar on this days, the world would be a slightly better place than it is today.
Love that!
2023 gang reporting in
🫡
This is fire af
That was awesome
i think it'd be great if both groups sang together
That guy in the red shirt was clearly recording the sound by pretending to be calling lmao
Lmfao he did
Huge fan and have seen them perform in halls arranged for better accoustics but love how they sound in this clip. I appreciate the Dapper Dans for what they are but ....'love them more'......???????
That was amazing just after they got promptly escorted out for doing that lol
And that’s how these four talented gentlemen were hired on the spot!
They're gonna do quite well in Anaheim if this performance is any indication... great stuff!
@Raycefan Actually, it's the Barbershop Harmony Society now, and the competition is annual (always has been).
This is so cool! :D
That's great.
Another gold medal moment!
you don't think the Dans knew who they were when they walked up? If they weren't getting paid, they probably would've given Crossroads their pinstripes and straw hats right after that overtone stopped ringing off of Cinderella's castle...GAAAAWD
Except that overtone is probably still ringing off of Cinderella's castle.
Their voices remind me of the vultures from The Jungle Book for some reason.
Yes, what a mystery. How could a harmonized group of singers sound like another harmonized group of singers. We'll need Holmes for this one chaps.
CORRECTS YOU
Oh, look, the Reddit "one-trick pony novelty account" phenomenon hit TH-cam, too.
My Jonas Clark can't be this new!
CORRECTS YOU
If they exist, they must watch crappier videos than I typically do.
That's because they are both singing barbershop style music.
Amazing :-)
Battle of the dapper bois
These guys are pretty good.
He might be a good singer, but he's still a Michigan fan....
O-H!

They ARE a Barber shope quartet! ; )
Was this a random encounter between the two groups or planned by the park?

brandon guyton is just sick - i'd love to sing with that guy
This could very well be the pinnacle of man's existence.
I LOVED IT =D
Those harmonies were tight as fuck. Mean while Miley Cyrus is getting paid millions to swing half naked on a wrecking ball to some lame ass 4 chord instrumental track.
What the fuck is wrong with the world.
DaleOfHope people who cuss too much in public venues?
10 YEARS OLD AND STILL DAMN STRAIGHT DUDE, FACTS.
Was this filmed in FL at Disney World ? another website is saying it is at Disneyland, but that looks like WDW FL to me !
OMG
Champions!
すげぇ
"oh my god" is right.
