  • In days gone by, it was traditional for the instructors of the Royal Australian Air Force's No 2 Flying Training School, based at Pearce in Western Australia, to conduct a mass formation flypast for each graduating pilot's course. The students of the graduating course occupied the back seats.
This is the 16-ship formation flight for No 97 course on the 7th of December, 1976.
The aircraft is the Macchi MB-326H, the majority of which were produced, under licence, at the Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation's Fisherman's Bend (Melbourne) factory.
Technical details on the video: The original was Super 8 cine from two cameras, one on the ground and the other in one of the aircraft. Projector was a Eumig 820, with LED light and a 2 inch/50mm 16mm lens (swapped from original lens), with a variable voltage 240v power supply to adjust the projector speed to stop flickering.
Digitisation was via a Panasonic GS300 MiniDV video camera shooting straight into the 16mm lens, with a direct Composite feed to the computer, using an IOData GV-USB2 digitiser and captured into AVI (MagicYUV codec) with AmarecTV. The AVI was processed with AVISynth (QTGMC, SRestore and RIFE), using settings kindly provided by a forum member at VideoHelp.
Final editing with Magix Movie Studio 2024.
