She said nothing about the drug addicts everywhere and how its all over the local news. This city has a high crime rate as well but nothing said about that. She should speak on the south side of Tucson and stop sugar coating.

Tucson was built to stay small and be a small town, they don't want it to be huge. Not everybody wants a big city. In the Sonoran desert and weather is beautiful. If you want a big city come up here to Phoenix. I love Tucson

My impression is certainly different than most of these caveats. Not that there is not accurate information, but the appraisal is certainly different from that of many residents. Here are a few thoughts that may ameliorate somewhat.
    1. Allergy season is real! However, many in the Midwest and East suffer two seasons, and longer than here.
    2. Heat - Humidity makes all the difference. While things get steamy during Monsoon, and nobody should just stand in the sun mid-day in early June, the low humidity makes temperatures much, much more comfortable here than in other areas that may appear 10 or 20 degrees cooler. Because the dry air does not hold heat, temperatures will drop 30 or more degrees from the peak temperature, which is generally short-lived.
    3. Hard water - Yes, you will want a water softener! But our water is based on a large aquifer in the basin, plus others surrounding the metro area to the north. Artesian water tastes great.
    4. Walkability - There are 131 miles of walking and biking trails throughout Tucson. It is one of the top biking cities in the U.S. There are myriad parks and places to hike in the foothills and into the mountains. If you love being outdoors, this is the place to be.
    5. Lack of a freeway - The surface streets move traffic fairly well, and for a relatively modest "large" town, this has never outweighed the character that saving old neighborhoods, barrios and communities creates for the Tucson vibe. It is a community-feel place with very distinct, beautiful and historic neighborhoods.
    6. Lack of water resources - Tucson is using less water than it did in the 1950s when it had a fraction of the population! This city is acknowledged around the world as one of the best water conservation cities, and certainly one of the most resilient in the U.S. Before the recent mandatory cuts agreed on in the lower-Colorado-basin states, Tucson was giving back part of its Colorado River allocation through the CAP as an example. Our use of CAP water has been recharging the aquifer with a plus of five years of usage placed in reserve. Tucson is a leading resilient city.
    7. Bugs and critters - The Sonoran Desert is literally the most lush desert in the world. It is true that if you do not like wildlife, this area would not be to your liking. But many people find the diversity of birds, wildlife and "critters" breathtaking. Yes, you must be aware of your surroundings when you are out, and you will want to be out a lot. This is a breathtaking area.
    8. Seasons - If you miss snow and ice, then the shrinking of winter to about five weeks will probably not excite. Tucson has a long and beautiful fall and spring of nearly endless sunny and comfortable days, four months of hot but dry weather, a Monsoon season of about 45 days, and a rainy season during December and January.
    9. Slow pace - I have found the entertainment per square mile in Tucson to exceed most areas I have traveled to across the country. There are abundant entertainment opportunities, museums, cultural venues and they are available, due to the outstanding weather, all year long. The Urban Renewal that got carried away in so many cities was kept somewhat in check here, so the flavor of modern skyscrapers within a few blocks of centuries old architecture is a real plus.
    10. Roads. After decades of experience in Chicago, Kansas City suburbs and Dallas, I can testify that people in Tucson who have not gotten out and about have no clue what a pothole is ;-). The roads here, especially after the repaving of Oracle Road/Highway 77, are often in excellent condition compared with cities that experience five months of freeze-thaw cycles.
This is a great video, but from a very different perspective on these issues than many who love this area view the wonderful Tucson metro, which includes several adjoining cities.

You get used to it after awhile. Mainly because there's no crosstown freeway and none of the lights are timed. At best you'll catch a handful of lights green most of your trip so it's really pointless to race to the next light.

    intro is too long
1 Allergies - Texas has you beat
2 Heat is not a problem, Texas got to 113 F AND 85% humidity. I'm moving there to get away from humidity
3 We have the hardest water here in Fort Worth TX, OH MAN! We get scale so bad on my shower head, sinks and dishwasher.
    4 I don't care about walking
5 Now heavy traffic jams is a problem but not much, I'm retired
6 Water, I do not plan to have a lawn, in fact I hate lawns. I love a desert scape. I'm looking forward to planting my cactus in the ground without fear of rot
7 Bugs are a problem for me. I will learn to avoid rattle snakes. Terminix, here I come.
8 No 4 seasons? Neither does Texas. WE are HOOOOOT then cool AND that HUMIDITY. I stay inside in the hottest part of the day.
9 I love a laid back environment. Lack of entertainment? No problem, I am never bored.
10 Bad roads, well, that is a problem as I love my car, but not a deal breaker.
