    I used your advice to fix my wife's old Tatung from college, it was exactly that fuse! Thanks for the details. I used solder but as quick as a possible to avoid burning the new fuse. Now it works but the cable gets very hot, we're going to just get a new one, it's old and may have bad connectivity inside.

    Thank you Min for this video, I repaired my mom's Tatung rice cooker, by following your video. Mine was the power cord open circuit. Replace it and it's back in working!

    Pretty cool Min, some process for many coffee pots which loose their thermal fuses.

    • @minhsao
      @minhsao  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah the wonderful thing about today’s world is you can buy the fuse easily on Amazon :)

  • @sl1237
    @sl1237 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Is the fuse tripping the symptom of another problem? Or just over time that thermal fuse breaks down?

    • @minhsao
      @minhsao  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question … for me it was corrosion…that was the cause.

    Hi Min! I just found this beauty at a local charity shop here in South Africa and it made me emotional because my previous family I au paired for are Taiwanese! I had to leave the city because my husband got promoted but we still keep in touch! I wanted to show them this but realized the little button/lever is missing. But it gets hot when I plug it in. Will it stick cook my rice? Thanks a million

    Hi, I have the same rice cooker and live in the US. Do you use the green grounding wire that it comes with? If so, how? Thanks!

    • @minhsao
      @minhsao  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The green ground wire is typically just connected to the metal outer frame of the rice cooker. I also live in the US and I think my was purchased from Taiwan and I don't know how old my rice cooker is ... it seems very very old, but I don't see a green ground wire in mine, but I do see a metal tab that is near the thermo fuse that is connected to the frame. Typically that is for grounding. So is your question where to connect the green wire?

  • @guangguang1472

    hi Min. These are great instructions - I changed the fuse and my Tatung is back in action. I was wondering if you can explain more about how the "heated metal" (1:23) works to pop the switch. Is it the piece with the Mickey Mouse ears, or the piece underneath that?

    • @minhsao
      @minhsao  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am glad it was helpful. And what a great question!!! What I meant by "heated metal" was the bi metallic strip that used to control the timing. What that means is it is a metal strip that has two types of metal, so because of this, when heated, each side of the metal band will expand differently because of the metal characteristic causing a bend. then the bend causes the switch to turn off. It is very simple but very ingenious. take a look at this youtube video :) th-cam.com/video/82FPQ6z8vcE/w-d-xo.html

      @@minhsao thanks again- I’ve always wondered how the rice cooker “knows” it’s ready. Your explanation is very clear but the video is a useful illustration.

    Hey my mom's friend gave us her TAC-10G(SA) and we replaced the power cord but there is still no power after replacing the cord. Would getting a new fuses component be the trick and would this type of fuse work?

    • @minhsao
      @minhsao  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Replacing the fuse would likely work but you should open it up and see what fuse you got in your unit and replace the same.. good luck

  • @jayraman
    @jayraman 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    My rice cooker heats the water outside and I can see it boiling but it shuts off before the rice in the inside pot gets fully cooked. Is it a problem with the bi-metal switch?

    • @minhsao
      @minhsao  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      so do you still have water left in the outside? the water outside is usually what is used as timer for how long the rice or soup will cook. Good luck!

    hi, i have thesame rice cooker and live in the Philippines, the problem is the rice cooker has a light on but not heating.
    is the filament and the fused you mentioned above is thesame?

    • @minhsao
      @minhsao  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There could be few other issues in your case.. it maybe the heating element or another wire that maybe corroded causing the heating element not to receive power … good luck!

    I have this same rice cooker but my fuse still works but the light at the front is dead, do you know where i could find the replacement, thks

    • @minhsao
      @minhsao  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You will need to find the part number for the light. it is usually printed on the part itself. My recommendation is to look on Amazon or Ebay. I will take a look at my rice cooker when I get a chance and see if I can find the part as well. Good luck.

    • @minhsao
      @minhsao  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are in Taiwan, you should be able to buy the thermal fuse very very easily. This rice cooker is so common in Taiwan, thermo fuse should be available in any hardware store. Good luck.

      Hello sorry for the late response. If you are in the Greater Seattle Area, I will be happy to repair your rice cooker for free. I do not repair rice cookers as a service or a job :). Depending on what's wrong with your rice cooker it may be a very easy fix. These are very very hardy rice cookers. it rarely breaks. Good luck!

    Hi Min, my Tatung rice cooker has the heating element, which is hidden under the heavy ring at the bottom, blown. The heating element is the one with the two "flexible " white cables, which look split in multiple parts coming out of the two holes and connecting to the power, essentially. I got a 6 cups cooker in UK and that heating element is busted. I just cannot find a replacement. A photo is here: drive.google.com/file/d/1e2P9HJHnRzqiJopoP2oGxehS2hkooASy/view?usp=drivesdk
    I fixed it twice with heat resistance conductive wire and each time lasted for one more year, but now it is too done.
    Any suggestion where I could buy it? Even from Taiwanese websites, as I got friends there that could send it to me.
