  • When we were clearing the land, we weren't sure where we were going to put our two 10x10 sheds once we move them to the property. Our focus was on the house site. Once the cabin shed was in place, we started discussing where we wanted our other sheds. This area seems to be the best place for us, but was no where close to ready. After hand clearing the trees, pulling down the vines, and raking the land, we have a 20 ton dump truck bring us red fill dirt to level area the sheds are going. Thank goodness for the Yanmar 221 tractor! It handled the dirt without a problem. I can only imagine how it would have been by hand. Next step, shed delivery!

    Hard work pays off. Years from now you will look back and say... wow how did we do that?
    That's what gives you strength going forward.

    I was wondering where the tractor was on Day 1!! Always cool to see the wife on the tractor. I get mine on the Kubota every chance I can to get her comfortable with it.

      We didn’t have the tractor when we started but we are sure thankful for it now! And yes, the more it’s used the more comfortable she will be 😊

    Thank you for talking the time to make another video you guys are great. You know after the rain it will get a little hard on you. If the rain comes down very hard could make holds in your dirt in spots. I want to say this very nice to you. You look nice in shorts.

    If you cut a large "V" out of the front of that mower between the front wheels so the blade is exposed it will cut through the toughest weeds you have there. Plus you can sharpen the blade without turning the mower over

    Lot of clay content in the dirt. Should work good. You two are working hard and will enjoy your labor.

    Need to get a chipping machine to come in and clean up beats doing it by hand.

    • @CountryRootsFarm
      @CountryRootsFarm  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes!! A chipper would have made quick work of this but we didn’t have the extra money to spend on it. Hopefully soon we will have a mulcher come out!

    So do you think someone if they had land free from family that they can make a shed into a home with only 25,000?

    • @CountryRootsFarm
      @CountryRootsFarm  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes! Source items that are new, do everything you can yourself, and keep a budget. We go to estate auctions all the time to get building materials and tools. Majority are of our tools are used and work great!

      Thank you! It’s the only one I’ve ever used, but I’ve spent some time using it 😊 Each time gets easier and feels more natural and you get a feel for how it works and what it can handle

    Me and my wife want to follow a similar plan we just can't figure out where to go I hate the heat and I'm sick of snow any suggestions

      Hmm, it gets really hot here in South Carolina - maybe Georgia mountains? I don’t think they get much snow and we always go there in the summer since it’s so nice. Good luck!

    You two are doing well. It’s important to be willing to learn, and maybe make mistakes. I know, I did it for just over 40 years on my ranch!! The homesite is really coming together. You will have that whipped into shape before you know it! Especially once your house sells!! Haha.
    I returned from Vancouver and the carpenter is a man of his words and then some!! He did all the clear cedar work in the interior of the shed, ceilings, walls 3.5 ft up, aanndddd , he did a 10ft x 10ft arbour on the deck!! He said there was too much sun for him when he took his breaks, he happened to have the lumber left over from all of his work he does and he did it for the estimated cost of the lumber!! I gave him a good tip anyways. His work is excellent, wayyy better than I would have done myself. Now I guess I have to drywall the rest of the top half of the walls and the full bathroom. Starting Tuesday, should be done by the end of the weekend or earlier, if my health lets me and my buddy get there. He is likely going to be there more to photograph wildlife than do drywall I suspect! Hahaha. Once that is done, the solar/wind power will be completed with the upgrades, the water well was completed and the filtration system for the shed is going in Wednesday. We could be moving furniture in by the end of the month! I even found room for a 1/2 sized dishwasher and a big ole pots and pans drawer beneath that! The carpenter said he will have the cabinets in by Tuesday if I want, but he needs drywall roughed into the space, I agreed to that. The kitchen is small and will take 3 pieces of drywall to be done. I told my wife we should move in there, she really liked the design of the place. She said that I was welcome to, but she will stay in our moderately sized house for the area and come visit. She has downsized already from just over 5,000 sq ft to just under 2200 sq ft. I think she has downsized enough for her lifetime. She has 400 square feet of craft room!! Haha.
    All the best to you two!!! Stay safe, Eh!

      I am so happy for y’all!! It’s hard sometimes to find good work you can trust, but you absolutely found it in the carpenter! I know you will enjoy having that area and your Buddy will enjoy watching the wildlife while you work lol
      it’s going be done just in time to enjoy the fall ❤️
      You might have a hard time convincing your wife to give up that craft room! Sounds amazing 😊
