This movie was life-changing for me. It made me realise cinema could be such an eye-opening experience, from culture to history to musical accompaniment to story-telling. It got me so obsessed with ancient Egypt I was that weird kid who went around spouting facts about Egyptian gods and embalming rituals even though no one asked for it. I'm so glad I grew up with movies like this. The Mummy will forever have a special place in my heart.
Yup me and my brother were obsessed with the mummy series. We would pop in the vhs movie and watch them nonstop, those memories will always stay with me ❤️
@@Erikingr I bought the mummy soundtrack and The Phantom Menace scores at the same time and played The Mummy way more. It was just the livelier, more exciting score of the two.
I wish they made movies like that again. More ol' fashioned adventure movies with good storytelling, memorable characters, stunning cinematography and score.
The ending of the mummy is so damn beautifully orchestrated (Along with the film's entirety of course) This score perfectly sums up the movie, it's a tribute to the fallen in pursuit of the treasure, has the sweeping adventurous tone, the tragedy of imhotep, the horrific moments, and of course the budding romance between our dashing hero Rick o connell and beautiful Evelyn which blossoms at the end of the journey. Bless you Jerry Goldsmith, you were one of the finest composers to live. And bless the epic adventure this movie is and always will be, at the center being the tender romance between our protagonists that through adversity perceivers. Edit: Man time flies, 5 years ago. I turn 27 this year lol. I Still love The Mummy & it's 🔥 score, always will.
Well said brother., You have a good analysing quality and a good taste about it. A very beautiful narration about the movie and it's BGM.., it just simply great., Right!? I love this movie..! 🥰
I watched it in the theaters with my mom when I was 14, what a surprise and amazing experience: great story - epic, dark and scary but incredibly funny as well; Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz and everybody in the cast is impeccable. Just real entertainment. Glad it's streaming in 4K on Netflix in its full glory.
My favorite movie in the while world!! As a kid I wanted to be an egyptologist because of this movie. Jerry Goldsmith did an spectacular job with this soundtrack. Thank you Stephen for this amazing movie. And Brenda and Rachel will be forever my favorite movie couple.
I think you mean Brendan. Yeah they were a fun movie couple and had great chemistry as Rick and Evie. John Hannah as Johnathan was a great comedy foil.
This is peak 90s Goldsmith. The man had a way with bombastic brass and sweeping strings. You can hear it all over his resume - this, Air Force One, Mulan, Star Trek Insurrection, Total Recall, and many many more. Boy do I miss him. His scores alone made movies, movies.
Don’t forget the movies that he composed in the 80s. Legend, Gremlins, the Rambo films, Secret of NIMH, Alien, Poltergeist, the Burbs, and the Twilight Zone movie
His 60s and 70s westerns and action pieces, such as 100 Rifles and The Sand Pebbles were pretty good. Capricorn One, also. Then there's The Edge from the 90s.
I must admit I feel the film wasn't the greatest, however, the score by Maestro Jerry, was as always, a major cue above the rest. I had forgotten how wonderful this piece was. Glad I followed a trail here. A tear is now in my eye. :-)
7:56 to the end is so awesome, Jerry completely nailed this whole soundtrack. My dad has been playing this movie to me since I was a kid and I still love it.
Some elements remind me of "The 13th Warrior". Both are amazing movies, not only by ideas, but also because of the soundtracks. Jerry Goldsmith, Sir, You and your firstborn son continue to live through your awesome creations. Hat off to you both.
Everything in this movie is great in terms of actors, scripting, acting, soundtracks including all the crews one of my favorite movies ever it's a masterpiece for 90's

This music and the movie will be my all time favourite 😍a huge different vibe from that era and this era❤soo proud of you and thank you Jerry Goldsmith for giving us a masterpiece!!💯
When I hear the song at the beginning and the one after it makes me wish that I could go back to the year 1999 it was a pretty good year for movies including this one.
I watched it again the other day for the rerelease and had the whole theater to myself. I sat there pig in shit status all wide and bright eyed watching it and fawning over Rachel Weisz. I cant believe I got a private screening of this movie 2 days ago.
The trumpet verse @ 2:37 is the most emotionally interesting part of this film's end credits score. It's very moving to me. Especially hearing it right after watching this movie. Also, 7:55 - 8:50 has a *Very* good Egyptian adventure vibe for the theme of this film to me as well
The trumpet @2:37 always reminded me of O'Connell's pilot friend Winston and the American cowboys who maybe joined the Egyptian afterlife by the end of the movie and watch over O'Connell?
I love how Goldsmith in the 90s reinvented his sound to be more modern, he uses a lot of whole notes and simpler melodies here than he did in the past, similar to John Barry he had a sound and stuck to it
Did you guys play the video game of this movie? The way the soundtrack was woven into the game was just exquisite . And it was also one of the rare games that excels the movie.

exactly
And will always be fucking epic!
I agree. That particular music with our heroes literally riding off into the sunset, into credits. Love it.
Goldsmith at his best 👍
This score should have been nominated and should have an Oscar, probably one of the best scores of the late 90s if not the entire decade.
I so agree It is brilliant!!
Up there with Stargate quite frankly.
Duel of Fates is number 1 though

I'd say scores. The soundtrack is better (and more memorable) than the film itself I'd say. Music does wonders.
