I know this comment's 4 years old, but I was just thinking how different his live performances were back in older ones like this, compared to more recentish ones. It's like he's lost his passion - at least in most of what I've watched. Some are like he just doesn't want to be there. I'd love to see him sing like this again.
I remember jogging around the track in McCarren park Brooklyn and they were playing this in the old pool live. My kid brother was inside at that show but it was great, I didn’t know who they were but could hear it and fell in love.
For me MGMT is one of the greatest band of this time, they make awesome music, and Andrew and Ben are soo gorgeous thnks guys for brings us excelent songs with great meaning I LOVE U, come to Latinoamerica!
For those who are asking about the guitarist: that's Hank Sullivant - MGMT's touring guitarist. He's Kuroma's lead singer but takes position as guitarist during MGMT's performances every now and then
Love this performance and song...it’s so captivating because they all look so into the performance! Andrew’s voice is on point and the instruments aren’t drowning his vocals. I love this band and they will always have a special place in my heart!
No kidding, that's the most beautiful thing I ever heard.. ! His voice concerns my heart. It makes me think about everything, 'bout the world, peace and love. My eyes well up with tears.
I keep finding these AMAZING clips of these guys. Where have I been , I ASSUMED they where DJ group. They will be here for the next 30 years, Look out Bono, Hutchy would be stoked
ohh, how i miss 2008, saw them at reading festival and met andrew and ben at the academy in birmingham in march just after this was filmed. fantastic year for music.
i heard "time to pretend" in the movie "21", and thought it sounded so so psychedelic in a way. then i heard a few more songs, and they are amazing. im 18 and ive always been thinking, if my children ask what music i listened to when i was young, i dont want to say that i listened to akon/50cent/lil wayne etc...these are the ones im going to say i listened to. mgmt, you rock and.. please, dont take to much drugs, cause WE want more music! :D
this is actually one of the most GLORIOUS things i have EVER SEEN!!!!! or rather, one of the most glorious things i have ever heard ;) keep it up guys, i'll always be cheering you on
i love Andrew. not because he's hot, cute, handsome etc. whatever, i don't care. but his lyrics... are just beyond everything else in the world. Andrew, thank you for existing! ♥
When the world has turned Paralyzed and wrong Cold blooded claws Never offered anything at all Past the point of love Shattered and untied Waiting to pick up the pieces That make it all alright But pieces of what Pieces of what Pieces of what Doesn't matter any more Moonlight on my floor Shining through the roof They got the city surrounded As if I needed proof I forgot my fear Feelings on the rise Burying all of the pieces Falling from the sky But pieces of what Pieces of what Pieces of what We used to call home Pieces of what We used to call home When I drank your tea And shallow water still At the belgian gates I waited for my meal

Technically, the guitarist/singer is from Memphis, the keyboardist/singer from upstate New York. They started their band at Wesleyan, and afterward went to Brooklyn. - MGMT's Biographer (Kidding)
@namenottaken0 i'm sure it has some of that, but i mean, it didn't have logos and ads and shit on the screen or in the camera's view during the performance, at the very least. that's without question a rarity here in the states
@mwbtc I'm glad you see where I'm coming from. I'm not trashing on the guy and as a matter of fact, there's a live performance of "Flash Delirium" on here, from SNL. He does great in playing his role in the song, but "Kids" doesn't have a place for a crazy guitar solo (especially through the actual breakdown of the song), but he's in there anyway! Ha ha. The bastard!
this sounds just like what it does in the studio version, it is just the style of the song, i dont see why people are hating on this, it sounds awesome
prettiest boy in all the world
ha!

Such an underrated lyricist
Criminally underrated 🥺😭 he is a poet.
Andrew is very intelligent and intuitive, underrated indeed.
From 2007 to 2010 they really were the biggest band on earth. They seemed unstoppable for a while.
Yeah, that reall was their prime.
They retained control of their destiny and music.😊
2020 still love Andrew and Ben
june h always
Not how they are performing songs now not at all

I kinda miss when the group had this vibe, LDA songs sound pretty weak live
@@charliestown4242 exactly what I think so sad I can’t feel anything anymore If I watch them in the recent ones
Can’t believe this is 10 years ago, saw them a couple of months ago and they still sound amazing
I remember jogging around the track in McCarren park Brooklyn and they were playing this in the old pool live. My kid brother was inside at that show but it was great, I didn’t know who they were but could hear it and fell in love.
I love the live singing. Such a nostalgic song.

I LOVE U, come to Latinoamerica!
you still on the internet?
For those who are asking about the guitarist: that's Hank Sullivant - MGMT's touring guitarist. He's Kuroma's lead singer but takes position as guitarist during MGMT's performances every now and then
He is so cute, I love this bohemian look on him. His hair, eyes, bandana, everything about him is perfect.
calm down he doesnt love you
Love this performance and song...it’s so captivating because they all look so into the performance! Andrew’s voice is on point and the instruments aren’t drowning his vocals. I love this band and they will always have a special place in my heart!

Idunno what the lyrics mean, but they always make sense to my dreamy, subconscious self =)
the song is about war
It’s about a war in Germany
Dragon teeth and belgian gates are defenses used in WW2
I've seriously watched this about 50 times in the past 3 days I have a problem
And I'm here to remind you this exists
Probably their best song.
Love this version. That anti-solo at the end is so much better on guitar.
SirSalmonator Out of interest, what makes it an anti-solo? Is that because it follows the vocal melody exactly? Thanks.
urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=anti-solo
I'm too lazy to read through that but I think I misused the term.
usually their songs doesnt translate that well live, but this is brilliant!
I love MGMT. Their music just makes me happy all around. And Andrew hair is amaazinggggg.... :D His voice fits this song perfectly. long live MGMT(:
I would literally die to have Andrew as my best friend. Such a cool dude. :D
i love the way his voice cracks through the songs, it gives quite a unique sound, top as ever
Omg their solos!!!!! Each and everyone is a good musician
I like Andrew's voice. It's imperfect, but it's still effective and suits their sound really well.
Great performance this actually.
The guitar solo at the end is awesome

I love this song a lot and this is an amazing live performance of it. Also...

When the world has turned
Paralyzed and wrong
Cold blooded claws
Never offered anything at all
Past the point of love
Shattered and untied
Waiting to pick up the pieces
That make it all alright
But pieces of what
Pieces of what
Pieces of what
Doesn't matter any more
Moonlight on my floor
Shining through the roof
They got the city surrounded
As if I needed proof
I forgot my fear
Feelings on the rise
Burying all of the pieces
Falling from the sky
But pieces of what
Pieces of what
Pieces of what
We used to call home
Pieces of what
We used to call home
When I drank your tea
And shallow water still
At the belgian gates
I waited for my meal

Nothing to do with drinking tea.

they are from brooklyn, and they both went to wesleyan (middletown ct) where they formed mgmt
the live version sounds amazing!
extremely Neil Youngish..sounds like this coulda been a leftover from "After the Gold Rush"
YES! From VanWyngarden's vocal styling and downstrokes to the dirty sound, this is so Neil Young.
Reminds me of Animal Collective and Violent Femmes if they had a collaboration. At least the studio version does.
@xXMisunderstoodMismanagedGrapeseedOilXx Check out Hi how are you? By daniel johnston
thats what this song reminds me of
2024 still listening
Oh God... THIS IS SO BEAUTIFUL.
MGMT is awesome and music should not be judged by how good or bad the singer is but by the effect it has on people that listen to it. I love MGMT
you summed up the message of the whole album in one sentence.
brahh!! this such an awesome song!!

@DezFramboesas James is on the drums! this is the old guitarist before james took over! :)
I love you for ever Andrew and Ben! you're my lifeee
@whatsernameDF He was their guitarist for a couple months right after Oracular's release.
@jdubayou12 Same here, I didn't discover them until summer 2010, but they didn't play this at Outside Lands this summer when I saw them :(
FAVOURITE, EVER

I think this is better than the album version.
And this is my favorite song from Oracular Spectacular.
this sounds just like what it does in the studio version, it is just the style of the song, i dont see why people are hating on this, it sounds awesome
