I will say having a whole squad is very fun
What's awesome is that it doesn't really affect the difficulty very much. I'm still very much challenged by this game while having seven party members.
And you get to hear a lot more cute dialogue
Be careful with it though. It can bork some cutscenes or downright make some teammates not responsible anymore after some stuff. I was told to be careful of a certain boat ride with more characters than default.

The best part about Karlach is that as a barbarian she can fight completely naked and still be a badass.
The best part about BG3 is that it has a "camp" outfit that is just aesthethics and a "default" outfit that actually represents the armor you're wearing, so all your characters can run around naked while having full AC.

it would be horrifically unbalanced. you mop the floor with most fights and you only have 4 people, having the full gang would utterly break the action economy
@@syrusalder7795well, then you have entire party for dialog/story purposes but have to choose 4 characters for fights - half of modern jrpg works that way already.
@@syrusalder7795Been playing on Tactician and the game is still challenging, although I would be lying if it didn't make it a little easier. I'm also doing an evil run with this so I only have Durge, Astarion, Shadowheart, Gale, Lae'zel, and Minthara.
I've heard that there's another mod that increases enemy health to help bring it back in balance. I'll look into that when I do a good-aligned Durge run.
I know there's a mod for it. And I'm aware it could could make the current game as designed too easy. That's why I specified wishing it was a core feature. As in the game would be accordingly balanced and one wouldn't need to seek out mods.
God knowing what Volo DOES later hearing him say how he "Can't wait until [he] can pick your brain!" is such a funny pun.
I love the tappys Jo does when Karlach says she wants to ride him till he sees stars.
26:30 the Underdark isn’t just a layer. It’s more like 3 overall layers below. You have the upperdark which is the most hospitable, the middledark which is less so, and the lowerdark which is only inhabited by monsters and eldritch horrors.
However, that implies it’s organized and cohesive. The Underdark is series of tunnels, caverns, canyons, and more that are incredibly difficult to navigate and pretty much impossible to map for a long period of time.
I remember when I got to the celebration event at camp thinking "ok this is clearly the 'choose and solidify your romance option' segment" so I purposefully spoke to Gale 1st with the hopes that if I confirmed him as my romance of choice for this playthrough the other advances wouldn't trigger at all but nope, *the entire party is horned up and ready to go!*
They're drunk as fuck, lol. I tried accepting two invites, but only one triggered, which was fine. Shadowheart was my choice, as I can't stand lae'zel, asterion, and gale

Asterion is dramatic, and hates my selfless heroism.
Gale is just annoying. Eats magic items, complains, dramatic, pushy.

Nothing like life-or-death encounters to give everyone a case of the horny.
Lae'zel isn't truly mean or cruel...she's scared. Terrified. She was captured and infested by what her people consider Satan...and now she has to depend on the help of people her culture taught her were unreliable or apt to betrayal.
Her arc is really good, as it focuses on how alien she truly is. Everyone else is just humans with different backgrounds, despite being different species. Lae'zel is the only character that builds on having a different culture, history AND species. She never feels human, but she does feel real. Easily the best companion of the group, and I say this liking all of them.
You're right! Not only is she probably very worried and on edge but as far as I understand she was raised in a culture that values strength and tenacity over everything and generally regards empathy as a sign of weakness, one which will inevitably lead to failure and is therefore a threat to her people in their constant battle.
We took different paths, but Karlach our oasis 😂
I played halfling and dumped strength. So the while party jumps except for me. Karlach stays behind to throw me across.

I love how much you can imitate Astarion and your character with the accent, it was always so fun to see you sass back as if they could hear you.
Also, as someone who didn't find it in my playthrough and also has read up on the lore for my own campaign, I don't think I've ever had such a huge reaction to seeing you find the Blood of Lathander in game. Legitimately gasped and shouted "FUCK OFF, IT'S IN THE GAME?!"
I know it's not necessarily the most powerful item in there by far, but as a lore nerd I was astonished.
Plus that Astarion reaction to the laser was phenomenal

Wdym "not necessarily the most powerful item in there"? It's an item that deletes all act 2 difficulty and trivializes what a lot of people considering the hardest fight in act 3.

When Jo shot Shadowheart, it reminded me of running in the surrounded gnome and just shooting him from the top of the cliff.

33:20 The irony is, Astarion is the only companion who is _canonically_ pansexual, as per word of Larian's writers and Astarion's voice actor. The other companions are more like "player-sexual".

Before you get to smash Lae'zel, she challenges you to a fight to see if you're "worthy of her obsession". You get to smash even if you lose as she feels emotional pain at the thought of hurting you. Despite the way she presents, she actually really cares about her companions.

Laezel's story arc is long, but her romance is one of the best things i've seen in any game. she is rude at first but becomes a total sweetheart

28:40 just like in the first games, it starts you with a deluge of companions recruitable from the start, then trickles them to you in later acts.
However, this one seems to have fewer total companions because it's easier to keep them alive, and also you don't have to travel back to where you dropped them off like in BG:EE(the only other one I played)

Oh, JoCat, improvised weapon shenanigans in any system are just the most fun. Beating people with a meatstick, picking up the most random stuff and being ultra effective with it, having an improv game so strong, anyone can hand you a random prop and you can cause Mortal Kombat-esque fatalities with it? True power 😎

I made a buff female Lolth drow who is also a bard, she looks like she can break u in half by sitting on you, but her specialty is also playing the violin. She looks so out of place and I love it.

I love Lae'zel because she has an amazing character arc. Not because of horny.
So far I want her on my team but I am a little disappointed with how they introduced her. Thinks I'm a thrall so she goes to attack me but mind powers activate and somehow that convinces her I'm not part of the group that use mind powers? Then again it should of been expected when they said "you only remember your name" and then they go on describing how you remember having the tadpole put in you just 2 seconds later. So much for only remembering the name.
It can be both you know? But man, getting past that initial personality of sandpaper is rough... She does a *really* good job of pushing you away.

No one has ever shown her compassion or love. This is important as a characterisation and if you want that characterisation to be strong, the initial impression of her can only ever be bad.

21:50 I only recently put it together that Volo says he'd like to "pick your brain" when you save him from the cage.
Volo gives you an artificial eye to replace the one he destroyed which gives you the 'see invisibility" buff permanently
I like Laezal. Romance wise? Not my type but she has a story that I think is good. Plus playing a githyanki like I am in my playthrough you get unique interactions and dialog with her and it shows she isn't just a hateful person all the time. Also I have the mod as well, it makes not having to switch so nice and since most dnd games I played are 5 to 9 party members, it feels at home to me

In my latest playthrough I stabbed Astarion with a stake and found out that Lae'zel with her "astral knowledge" is just as good as picking locks as Asstarion. And you can smash most of them anyway

Ahhhh I'm so happy you are uploading the vids from the playthrough! It's been hard to catch up with the full vods. Also Jo with Karlach is just the biggest of moods.
Hot take:
The only bad part of BG3 is the number of playable races. It should be like, doubled. AT LEAST let me play as the gobbo I am IRL.
I know, right? I've got at least six Genasi characters from the tabletop that I really want to recreate in-game
I presume there will be mods adding more races, other than that, I'd happily pay for race and subclass DLC's.

@the_tactician9858 fantastical multiverse adds 54 races and you can get artificer as well through modding.
They have to keep something for bg4 and bg5. And I'm not being snarky, that's reality of this business. Imagine bg4 where they introduce artificers, gnomes and war forge and build the game story around it.

Everytime I watch people's playthroughs I realize more and more how much harder I made this game for myself by accidentally skipping most of Act 1 and entering Act 2 at level 4

LOL those rolls at the start, off to a wonderful beginning!
Also if you're planning to completely wipe out the goblin fortress, try to destroy their war drums first (CTRL+LMB to force attack the drums) while the guards are looking away, that will prevent them from alerting everyone and isolate their groups, making the fights easier.
You can also destroy stuff like locked wooden doors with the forced attacks, bypassing checks. Good luck!
An also decent way to thin the group is, if you have it, use the cat familliar to lure them one by one into a dark corner and murk them there. It's a bit tricky since they tend to walk back quickly when they lose interest in the cat, but it certainly is a way to ammass a decently large body pile!
@@greenumbrella6249 Very easy to handle in turn-based mode though. Summon the cat, immediately go turn-based mode and take care of things.

It's okay to dump Int because you can always get Lumps Headband of Intellect that gives you a 17. Also having both Kar and Wyll on your team is the based choice.
