Great review, thank you very much Rob! The Benromach Peat Smoke, the original Benromach 10 YO Imperial Proof, and the more recent Benromach Cask Strength have all been delightful and super-solid/dependable across multiple bottlings. This Contrasts bottling series is super-cool and something I'll watch out for!

Benromach is making great strides. I have both the 11 yr non-peated sherry and a store bottling of a non-peated ex-bourbon and their both great. Great review.

Just opened a bottle of the Bourbon cask version and agree completely, it's along very similar lines to Lagavulin 8. Great value and really enjoyable.

Thank you, Benromach for putting out this series! Contrast bottles are awesome. Of course, the best model for seeing real contrasts is Hazelburn, Springbank and Longrow. Bruichladdich has a lot of variation too but I hope more distilleries learn from Springbank. Cheers!

Great contrast and conversation. Right now, I'm still excited a bit mroe with the Sherry. Cheers!

Thanks for the review Rob. They have had these two offerings at Binny’s with the exception that they are at cask strength. I picked up the bourbon cask one because I am usually leery of sherry casks. Haven’t opened it yet, but it is good to hear you like the one you have. It is great to see Benromach issuing a good number of these interesting bottlings. I love the Benromach character and now I don’t have to settle for their less than ideal official bottlings.

I'm hoping that their ventures with the Contrasts series leads them to reconsider their core and raise them up to 'integrity' standards. I'm a major fanboy of their 15 year old and have just recently obtained the Contrasts: Peat Smoke in Sherry Casks. I'm very impressed and awaiting a bottle of CS.

Terrific review Rob. I am extremely eager to try both whiskies. I love Lagavulin 8 so I am even more excited to be able to go on and try both! They sound spectacular! The contrasting reviews are so good!! Cheers!

88 is a great score for some very fairly priced Benromachs!
Thanks for doing this comparison, now I want to try the bourbon cask version...

I was so glad to find this comparison as I have been searching for the Sherry Cask version of the Contrasts with no success . Is there any way your supplier there will ship to California? I like how you have the bottles and boxes presented side by side with a screen shot of the Distillery in the background!.......Cheers!

Nice comparison, I'm surprised a "sherry head" gave the bourbon cask the same score!
Actually I just found a single bourbon cask 11yr 58.7% abv. $60usd.I guess I need to grab it!

Unfortunately the 2023 bottling of sherry contrasts is now only finished in sherry casks. I had no idea until I took delivery of it this morning.
Such a shame, and a strange decision by Benromach in my opinion.

Excellent review as always. Sounds like Sherry cask would be more my jam TBH 😃 I haven’t found these in the Bay Area yet. Will have to check around European sites I guess?

Great review of right priced Benromachs Rob. I may get both at some point. I got into Benromachs with their 10 year old which has been a surprisingly good dram and I have a 2008 CS Batch 1 stashed away. On a different topic, I know you've done Macallan Classic Cut review in the past so wanted to ask. What's your thought on the 2022 Classic Cut, worth getting a bottle ($175 at LCBO online)? I've had the 12 Double Oak, 12 Sherry and Select Oak but never had a Classic Cut before. Much appreciated Rob!

I passed on those. Although they are probably decent, I’m not entirely interested.

@@WhiskyInThe6 Yeah I am wondering too. It seems steep at $180 for the 2022 Macallan Classic Cut.

These benromachs are killing it down here in my market australia, great value and quality just waiting for the prices
To go up like everything else. Ledaig 18 just went from 200aud to 250 because of the hype I’m getting really sick of the hype merigoround! Feels like every value brand is just gonna cash in like everybody else. Maybe the answer is
Stop drinking! See how they like that…

You don't drink whisky everyday? You are a better man than I am. Not going to lie, those new alcohol consumption guidelines from health Canada have me worried.

I find these guidelines entirely reasonable…but I assume there was a typo in their recommendations. They were supposed to be « daily » but they mistakenly wrote « weekly ». Waiting for the corrected
