    The LED turn signals are another good upgrade for the 2023 Z650. The 2022 and older models have incandescent signals that use a different mounting stem and those are subject to a lot of bouncing while riding. I see in your video that the new LED signal mounts are not subject to the same bouncing problem. I had one come apart as I was riding my 2020 Z650 because the rubber base aged and cracked, leaving the signal dangling by the wire. To fix the problem, I've just bought Kawasaki's LED signal kit for the 2020-22 models that upgrades to the same signals as the 2023 model, complete with a new relay to make the LEDs flash at the correct rate.

    Traction control is a good upgrade for the 2023 Z650. I've got a 2020 Z650 that is stock except for Ohlins fork springs, Michelin "Power 5" tires, and a flash tune. My bike easily breaks traction in lower gears on road surfaces that are clean and dry. The only traction control my Z650 has is my right wrist easing back on the throttle. These bikes have very low gearing and with the boost in power from a flash tune, it can be tricky to keep the rear wheel hooked up. It's fun to spin the rear wheel at will, but it will shorten the life of the tire and could cause a loss of control if not ridden carefully.

  • @mircea5013
    @mircea5013 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Also, I like how you ride... you're not assuming everyone on the road is static. You pass people quickly, you don't stay in their blind spot... As opposed to what other people seem to be doing on youtube.
    It's not even about how fast you are going, but how you ride/drive.

    Thanks for the review. Thinking of getting back on a motorcycle after 10+ years off and I’m really liking the Ninja flavor of this one. Looks like it’d be a great 2nd first bike that I’d probably hold onto until the wheels fell off. I worked my way up to a Blackbird before and as lovely as that machine was (it really was fantastic), it lacked the simple joy these motorcycles that are designed to be at their best at street legal speeds have.

    Started o. A 2014 Njnja 650 but wanted a taller bike as I felt cramped on it. Got a ZX6R and been loving it but eventually wanted something more comfortable for the street.
    Saw and scored a 2017 z650 and put the 25mm taller seat and it’s perfect. My friend has an MT07 and honestly both bikes are great just comes down to preference.
    If I was to buy new I’d probably get an MT07, or XSR700 mainly for the sound. But other than that love my Z650 and it’s a great value new. Let along when you buy used, damn near can get them for a steel.
    Can’t go wrong with way, just like picking any of the 600’s.

  • @Dkmachine

    Bought this as a step up from my first bike. I've already put over 1000 miles on this and I'll say it is a good bike.
    Comfortability is good, of course with longer rides (over an hour and a half) your butt will get sore. Theres a back pad which really squeezes you and holds you in, very comfortable.
    Speed is good, this thing launches quick and gets to 60mph I believe under 4 seconds. Top speed, that I've reached, is 121mph. I was full throttle in 6th gear going downhill. This thing cruises fine at high speeds, around 90mph.
    I agree with what he says in the video, if you started on a 300 and want a step up, 650 is a good choice as a middle-bike. I do wish I went higher in power with a different bike imo but I really do like this bike.

    • @jonathanrosen6160
      @jonathanrosen6160 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well dang, only 121 mph? I've gotten my Z400 to 118 (indicated) on a straight flat highway as much as I could tuck, have a Puig windscreen which may have reduced wind turbulence. I weight 150 without gear (I always ride ATTGAT), so that isn't really a step up, perhaps more grunt and acceleration in the 650, and perhaps a little less buzz in the handlebars. Right now I'm looking at a Z900.

    I bought a Z650 about six months ago for the daily commute and have been very happy with it. Works very well for lane splitting and plenty enough power with torque down low so you don’t need stack a heap of revs on it. The light weight is good as well as I need to push the bike in and out of my garage area so the light weight helps a lot.
    I notice they have changed the flappy indicator mounts on the 2023 model. That’s one of my only complaints with the bike I have, the indicator stalks look like they are going to fall off when your riding at a decent clip but it’s just how they were designed to be.

      Yamaha is better for content, there are still brand sheeps who only respect what they ride and rest is garbage, which I find is a shame, but hey, cant help them, but yeah, Kawasaki is the more well rounded bike, the biggest gripe is the sound of the bike, since all those new riders want the loudest and best sounding bike so they can revv it at stops and never lean more then upright and if they once come into the twisties they yeet themselves into oblivion because of the jerky nature of cp2 and cp3 engines, atleast those pre the latest generation mt09 with a proper 6 axis imu, people need to understand that people have preferences, some like rowdy bikes, others like smooth, some people like fairings and others nakeds, in the end were all bikers and should respect and wave to whoever we come across, because were all family and theres no place for elitism in this community.

    Had one of these for my MOD 1 and MOD 2 UK, I have a NC700S Honda now and the Honda feels like it has more low end grunt and has a 1000 times better transmission you can actually use every gear, this was just very loud and had a lot of vibration even at low speeds and was a pain to find neutral not to mention 1st is basically a pointless gear on one of these as soon as you set of you need to go straight to second.

    I have the ninja 650, everything same just with a fairing, my only gripe with it is that at 6ft tall, even with a high seat I still feel somewhat cramped, but definetly is a great bike, people just hate on it needlesly because the mt07 sounds better, but overall kawasaki feels more premium, has a smoother engine and costs less with all the same features and some more, honestly currently on the market Kawasaki ranks realy high in every segment and when you look about the features they are definetly class leading in bringing new features to the market, such as forced induction, radar technologies and hopefully in the future the first hydrogene engines which they are the only ones working on right now, so yeah, out of the big 4 definetly the most progressive and versatile brand.

      The Z has a lower center of Gravity than the MT 07 and because of that it feels about 40 to 50 lbs lighter. Even though I think it weighs more by 5 pounds or so. I have had both bikes. The Z is much more stable in curves and a much better handling bike. Go on the mt07 forums and you will see all kinds of complaints about the handling of the MT07. The factory suspension is just not good. The new 2022 and 2023 models may be better.

    I'm looking at this as my first bike simply because it's one of the ones that would fit me better then the smaller bikes. I'm 6'2" and about 225lbs and 34" inseam.
    In the video you say that for a newbie you would recommend staying below a 500cc bike. However if you can change the traction to Rain mode, which would reduce the power, wouldn't that be of benefit so if you get on the throttle you're not going to get into as much trouble?? Once you feel more comfortable on the bike you can switch the modes to normal or sport??

      Hi hope this helps
      I am 5'7 170lbs and currently have the z650 black and red. I can put both feet on the ground. My first bike was a 2012 ninja 250. I highly suggest you think about a higher cc like the z900, triumph 765r, or the duke 890r. Only reason is that the power on this bike is sufficient for roads and highways, but it does not really have that punch like a r6 or zx6r. Not much power in 1st or 2nd, 3rd and 4th you get some torque but nothing that will make you go 'whoahhh mama'. I've gotten this bike up to 115 in 6th gear and it is screaming lol. Overall happy with this bike bc it got me back in the groove of riding. But after the first month of owning I was ready to move up to more power. So I highly suggest you get something that has the power and you be the one to take ownership and learn with it, because it is not a good feeling to spend money on something wishing it was more than what it is. I know everyone might not agree and that's ok this is my honest review.

    On paper, the Z has +5 NM torque, traction control and +1 litre fuel capacity...
    On paper, the MT07 LA (Learner Approved) version has +2.8 PS, -7 KGs, 270º crank, 3 colour options, and for local market is $1295 cheaper...
    On Paper the MT07 HO (High Output) version has +23.6 PS, +2 Nm, -7 KGs, 270º crank, 3 colour options, for $1000 more than the Z...
    I'm not convinced that Traction control on a 50 HP bike is going to be a deal breaker, so would still choose the MT07... I *am* with you in the LCD vs TFT dash... so would start looking at the Tracer 7, instead... which offers a bit of weather protection, too...
