I have springs the same size.
I hand hammered @ a 15 inch flat bar out of a piece. Just like you , I left an integral bolster.
What I learned from hammering mine out.
When it starts to cool. Stop hitting it, because I wasn't moving mine.
That stuff wants to be worked hot.
Another awesome video. It was really cool watching you shape that blade in time lapse mode props to you for working with that huge chunk of metal.

Great video.... I suggest you do the talking while the steel is cold as it was getting cold quickly while you were talking... just my opinion

Yup, those hammers are from both of them. I love them, I use Elijah's hammer on everything that I forge. I've been using John's hammer a lot lately.

Hay Eric i like all your videos i was wondering on your 1 by 30 how meny knifes can you sharpen with that pack of belts that you have showen i forget the name of it but it has a 120 up to a 1000 grit belts and a leather belt

Its quite a monster of a knife there, if you can get it thin enough behind the final edge its definitely going to be a good cutter

I get my Hammers from Two Bastards Forge. You can look them up on Facebook or Instagram. Frank is awesome and can get you hooked up with the perfect hammer for you.
what do you use to keep your blades rusting or corroding
I tend to use CLP on my blades to keep them from rusting during the making of them. Once I'm done making them, I use Axe wax and cleaner, they are food safe.

Im your first time viewer in your vlog. And I am also a knife forger/a knife maker in the city of Manila. One thing I have noticed to your vlog is this thing : Im sorry to say this and please dont get mad at me. " you do a lot of talking and explaining rather than finishing your forging demonstration. Pls try to minimize ur talks and focus on ur intended forging demo. Only my suggestion. Dont get offended. Im a 69 year-old retired airline personnel and now a knife forger.
Opinions are always welcome and I don't take offense to much.
I can give you a little insight into my thought process behind the talking. Over the years I have figured out what people are going to ask me about in the comment section. It's easier for me to explain it while pointing at it than it is for me to type it out and have them try to picture it in their heads. I do this amount of talking to help the people that aren't just visual learners. Trust me, it would be way way way easier on me if I could just forge and not talk.
Noted Mr River's Experience and thanking you so much for the reply. I was just giving you my personal reactions to your forging knife vlog. Because for me I am very very much comfortable watching the visual demo about knife making or knife forging. As you have mentioned - visual drmonstrations would be good enough for me. You are doing good enough for your vlog. Keep it up. My reactions and comments was just for my perceptions

Why make a really robust blade like that. but then make a weak tang?
A lot of people think that way. I did too for a long time. Think about this, almost all swords back in the days were hidden tang construction. Yes a full tang is nice, but it's not necessary. I've made choppers that are larger than this, that I've used to chop through wood, baton through wood, and cut through the base of a small tree. That knife didn't skip a beat.
