Just Google Cree or Chanzon 3W Red LED chip. Pick what works best for you

Thanks! Basic parameters for a mixed reef ALK 8 Cal 390-410 Mag 1350 PO4 .03 NO3 20 (hoping to bring it down to 10 with the scrubber upgrade)

any update on how it worked?

The scrubber was installed for two years and worked as expected, producing some hair algae and bacteria on the fine mesh which I wiped off weekly with a paper towel. The system was nutrient depleted so I removed it.

    Nice!
Curious how that heat paste epoxy is holding up so far?. For me it only lasted a year before the saltwater environment/evap caused the leds to come loose.

So far, no issues, but it has not been a full year yet. I’ll report back, if there are any future failures

Reporting back on this. 6 months later and heat sync epoxy is still holding firm

Funny thing that one looks just as good as Santa Monica’s scrubber I think they use the same parts lol

Nice. Their scrubbers are definitely a cut above this DIY upflow, but this is a great option for reefers on a budget. My plan was to first try DIY and if it was a total flop, purchase one of the SM models, which I still may do for the rack and rubble frag tank downstairs.

Can you just use an led strip similar to what you would use on the back of a TV. They are so cheap and you can control them with your phone. Not to mention simple.

They are unlikely to have enough output to be effective. With that said, I’d just see how that compare in color temp and output, to the 3 watt LEDs and driver that I used in my build. I’m not sure how cheap your TV LEDs are, but the ones I used were very economical. Be very careful. You will need enough heat sync and ventilation around the LEDs to keep the scrubber running cool, or risk potential fire hazard. Best of luck.
