That quote about how her husband seemed to have lost his heart when his wife died hit home. I lost my fiancé in a car accident and he took my heart with him. It’s been 13 years and I know no other person will ever be good enough. I’ll always be comparing them to him.
Leopold the widower when on to remarry and he named his youngest child Charlotte, after his late wife. Charlotte grew to become Maximilian of Austria’s wife and ended her life tragically as well, afflicted by mental illness and her husband executed by Juarez’s government.
Omg this is tragic. I wonder if this is the same King Leopold that was in change of killing 10 million people from Congo. Or was that his son? If it’s him I wonder if the grief got to him that that mass death followed.
I think you're right. Highly recommend the book "King Leopold's Ghost," by Adam Hochschild for anyone who wants to know about the son's reign of absolute terror in Africa/the (then-)Congo.
We are so lucky to be born in this age of specialised facilities

That's just so incredibly sad. For Charlotte, her baby, her family, and her country.
This makes me very sad, all I can think of is "Sorrows prayers" from Queen Charlotte. I cannot imagine, poor Leopold.
Omg what a horrible way to die.
Damn, imagine the change in history if she and her son would have survived, and Leopod II never been born.
that is so wild. we have goats and if they arent progressing by 30 minutes we go in and help. Poor gal. R.I.P.
How terribly sad & tragic 😢😢
I just wonder if Princess Charlotte survived and became the queen, how would the world change?

Wasn't her husband the king of the Belgiums? Leopole?

King Leopold the 2nd killed people from 1885-1908 so it can't be the same man
I believe that was his son
