Hearing that "Bob White Quail" in the background made me smile. We used to hear them out here when we moved here in 1998, but development has pushed them out. Have not heard one in years... Those Okree plants look like Dinosaur Kale with those stocky thick stalks.
Since 1968 ,,I have been growing okra every year here in North Carolina,,and have always pruned everything off the plant below the lowest pod of okra ,,thus it grows up taller and also bears later and more than it does if I did not prune.
Oh and I had to prune up my dwarf cow horn also. It was miserable trying to get the pods. Thanks for the seeds. I’ve harvested tons of okra this season.
I learned to prune okra from you Travis from a video you did last year. I've been doing it all this season and I have 6' tall okra plant...easy to see & harvest & still producing a mess every other day!
My Red Burgundy and Clemson Spineless are over 6 feet tall, and I only have been pruning the dead leaves. Jambalaya not as tall but producing good. Enjoy your content and I learn a lot from you; thanks!
I grow all three of those "Okreee" (Travis' pronunciation). I like the Red Burgundy best. Seems to take the pickling better. Red Clemson spineless just gets way too tall in NC but has about the same production as Jambalaya. I bought some of the Dwarf Cowhorn seeds from Travis. Put some in the ground a few days ago before we got the rain and wind from Idalia. Hope they grow as well as his does.
Next time you plant corn put some netting over those crops keep those worms out. I'm doing that to my tomatoes this year. Worms destroyed my tomatoes last year. I hope you had no damage from the hurricane and everyone is safe. God Bless
Couldn't find a comment box, so I'm gonna drop my question here. My okra is attracting large black ants and they seem to go after the blooms. What would you recommend to combat them? Hope the storms don't flood you out down there.
Travis, are you going to put those squash on trellises or let them sprawl? Disease wise I am trying to figure out how to grow things in fall in the south? I am about to plant my fall cukes and squash on my trellises. Thank you
Travis, I'm possibly getting a $30,000 dollar grant and I have some land not suitable for in ground cultivation and I would like to purchase the raised beds you have. Where did you get them?

We're all good. Very fortunate.

I heard it TOO! Thought I was hearing a mocking bird. Had to go back and listen close, but it was definitely a male Bob White Quail.😊
Whooping your Okra!!!
Hey hey hey Trav😊

I whooped my okree as well from the start. Just let the leaves fall to the ground for mulch, easy picking!
Travis : can't wait for the video how you fought off the hurricane!😊
We'll talk about it some next week. Wasn't much fighting to do. Just let it roll through and see what happens. We were very fortunate though.
@@LazyDogFarm Good to hear! Was just about to ask if y'all had any damage. We were fortunate NE of y'all (but still in south Georgia) as well.
I hear a bobwhite singing in the background! Cool
Yeah I would set a quail trap up.
I hear dinner calling.
Always enjoy your videos Travis. Look forward to more.
Good to see how the squash does down here in 8b in a late summer situation.
I started eating my okra raw after it gets very large and the seeds taste like corn! Love it...
Lol. I like when the cooked seeds pop like water balloons when you're eating it. Many grand blessings everyone everywhere

Very good idea. Thanks so much. Many grand blessings everyone everywhere
Hopefully Uncle Dons Okra is a good one. I’d definitely buy some seeds if you offer them at some point.
Haven't heard or seen a Bob white in Virginia for years 🙁
You need to say who can plant the okra this time of year. You are very close to Florida.
Try a squash in a cage, I did this summer and was surprised how well they did.
What for cage did you use??? Lol. Details , we need details. Blessings everyone
Hope you manage alright with the hurricane. Seems you got pretty close to the thick of it.
We fared well here, but towns just an hour to the east us didn't fare so well.
Can you give the corn stalks to a farmer nearby that has cows or pigs? They would love them.
I really like your raised bed setup. How much longer till you start onions in the greenhouse?
Very soon. Probably next week.

How did you fair in the Idalia storm ?
We got lucky. Hardly any damage here.
@@LazyDogFarm that’s good news Bro .
Can't get those plants here in Pa, lol gets too cold here to go beyond typical season for okra!
Are those winter or summer squash???? Blessings all
Summer. Too late to plant winter squash down here.
@@LazyDogFarm just wondering. Veriaty names?? Grown before? Results?? Uses ??? Lololol. I wonder about a lot. Many grand blessings everyone
Have you found always leaving the roots eventually causes root knot nematodes?
I haven't, but we are careful about rotating veggies that are susceptible to nematodes.
Travis, are you going to put those squash on trellises or let them sprawl? Disease wise I am trying to figure out how to grow things in fall in the south? I am about to plant my fall cukes and squash on my trellises. Thank you
Just going to let them go. They'll get some disease pressure, but sometimes we can outpace it with fertile soil and healthy plants.
Is that a bob white in the background?
Someone on top in these comments said it was, I was wondering what it was also

Hey Trav. I just watered my garden the mini misquotes are eating me up! Help I don't want to go outside.
Gotta move fast! lol
How do I get rid of ants on my okra? They ate up all my peaches and cream corn
Spinosad will usually take care of them.
