    Currently waiting to pick up our twinair 4x4 panda, and I'm completely binging on these videos.
    My fiance has a 500 with the 0.9L and we both love the motor, so after moving further inland where the snow hits harder, the idea of the little 0.9L utility king sounds brilliant.
    Will keep watching, and love the off roading!

      Hi Dale,
      The Panda 4x4's are great in the snow and bad weather i speak from experience, i can recommend "Michelin" 4 season tyres they are snow certified tyres very good in bad weather conditions.....

      You must be very bored binging on us two fools -- but thank you !

      I still have not had the use of Paddy to make a decision of which engine I prefer - sound and character it's going to be the twinair I am sure - economy (and I would suspect longevity) the 1.3 ?

    Hi Jon and Nath,
    Thank you for your kind words im glad i could offer you both some advice.
    Well my confidence in your mechanical engineering skills was correct you sucessfully changed the rear diff mounts, well done.
    I believe the "mysterious part" is some form of vibration damper?
    Fiat likes to use blue thread lock they even applied it to the filler and drain plugs on my Panda cross transaxle!
    Re-applying blue thread lock was a good idea, but you could have used copper grease, especially if its a part that you may have to replace in the future and you require the nut / bolts to undo easily.
    Do not use copper grease on any rubber EG brake caliper slider pin rubber dust covers as it will cause decay, only use either red rubber grease or silicone grease for this type of application.
    Just remember if you use copper grease and you need to use a torque wrench then it will torque at the wrong setting due to the lubrication of the grease, unless otherwise specified in the manufactures literature always torque threads dry.
    If i were you guys i would remove and check that other diff mount the one situated at the rear of the diff, just to ensure it has not decayed, any doubts then replace it.
    Im looking forward to watching part 2, and very hopefully the "clonking" issue will have been finally resolved.
    It was a warm 35 degrees here yesterday and hopefully a similar temperature again today.
    Best regards to you both and Reg,
    Stefano.

      Hi Stefano
      As you so rightly said, it was an OK job - the rear support is immaculate - the car this used diff came off was a 34000 km vehicle, there is no play or damage on it - we saw a chap (Italian bloke) do it on TH-cam and we have the same clamp thing he used, so we can, but really don't need to, fortunately.
      I did not fancy removing the axles, so dodged that one.
      On the 319 - the vibration dampers are really obvious and just "lumps" - I think you are right about these being the same - what confused me was the positive and negative symbol on the cover, which was removable ( we did not open it ). To add to my confusion is the 1.2 differential does not appear to have them - or I am just confusing myself through lack of knowledge on the 1.2 version :)
      We had Marcio a mobile mechanic in yesterday (what a lovely bloke he was as well ) wish we had found him before, but he has only just arrived here and started his business - interesting chap, born in South Africa, but Parents Portuguese - just come over from the UK, being a BMW mechanic and trained at Mercedes.
      We had him in to do the Mitsubishi L200 water pump (and timing belt, another one of your gems) it was a pig of a job - the center crank bolt, as he described it, best we do a back street job on it - as we discussed, its a main dealer tool required, plus he had to loosen some quite major stuff to get at hidden bolts to remove the plastic covers - many a choice word was uttered in his odd English with a Portuguese / South African twang !
      The centre one was breaker bar, wedged into our trolly jack - he was under the car holding it (had muscles on his muscles) while Nath and I rocked the car in 5th gear - I have to say, all drama free, if you are mad enough to lay under the car with a trolly jack wedged in your privates !
      We were reassured it was not a job for the faint hearted and he I feel, is a great find for helping and learning from, he was fine with us on his shoulders asking questions like 2 three year olds :)
      He has spurred me on (although Mrs. M. did give me the "look") as I have a spare gearbox for our ML and have found a place in Lisbon to refurbish it, they want 2K to as new it - Mrs M was less than pleased ! ) - with our new found friend, the ML will get pampered once I sell the JEEP, so Mrs. M. cannot thrash me !
      We are basking in 30's like you - although there is a suggestion of rain here next week, really do need it here as quite a few places do.
      Have a great weekend - mine will be polishing the underside of the JEEP in ACF50 :)

      Good evening Jon,
      Thats good news about the low mileage diff, and its saved you and Nath more work on Paddy.
      Yes its strange why the 1.2 does not have vibration dampners installed?
      Marcio sounds a great find and its good that your both learning from him, being a mobile mechanic in Portugal is far more preferable than in the UK, laying on the cold ground whilst its persisting down with rain is not fun, i speak from experience!
      The L200 does sound a difficult job, Marcio is not the only one who uses a few choice words lol....i do that all the time, it amazes me why Automotive Engineers sometimes design such difficult to access components, they make a simple job so difficult!
      I have to be honest here Jon i dont really fancy a trolley jack between my wedding tackle lol especially as my jack is a 4 tonne model lol....
      Whats wrong with the spare gearbox for the ML? If the gears, dog clutches, and syncro gears are not worn or damaged then you can dismantle the gearbox and replace the bearings yourselves, they will be a standard size. Have you managed to remove the top cover and complete a visual examination, was there any metal debris in the oil, was there any problems prior to removing?
      It was 35 degrees here today so very nice as i was painting the exterior of our house, ive almost finished that job now....on the news this evening we had the normal UK problem of water shortages and reservoirs at dangerous low levels, but from Monday we have heavy thunderstorms forecast so hopefully the water situation will improve.
      Have a great weekend and enjoy the great Portugese weather, stay safe,
      Best regards to you, Nath, Mrs.M and of course Reg, Stefano.......

    • @DrivenMadShow
      @DrivenMadShow  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Stefano
      Once the diff gets the full thumbs up - the long awaited gold skid plates need to go on - the paint has never been detailed - Nath has a job on his hands with this - Paddy looks great in photos but the original stuff has bird poo issues and our new paint needs all the cutting / polishing done - the roof plastic is a pain really, so its going to be a long job for him.
      I am sadly going to do an old man fuel challenge (with myself really) and see what this can do - the twinair if you really baby it, can get high 5's /100km as its best - off road, we were getting 14 ltrs / 100km - it's going to be an easy win for Paddy on this test.

    They're mass dampers/dampeners, they reduce vibration and probably some noise too. It's most likely a revision after a certain time rather than specific to a particular model but I haven't seen under enough Panda 4x4's to know that. I just can't see why one version should need these over another.

  • @markp3717
    @markp3717 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It was interesting to see the different amounts of threadlock on those bolts but what occurred to me was - hadn't your mechanic done all those bolts when he swapped the mounts over from your original diff onto your new one?

    • @DrivenMadShow
      @DrivenMadShow  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mechanic is a loose term 😇 - to be fair to him, I think he is a very good mechanic, skill wise, that's why he is so busy, thus totally unorganised. The Portuguese have a weird thing, they can be in the middle of something, someone turns up, they stop and do them; so never finish what they start - then nothings is on time, so rushed (or bodged).
      In shops / restaurants etc - the staff will be serving (with a queue) and one will just walk to the front and ask a question - they get answered and the other Portuguese think this is perfectly normal and fine, just butting in.
      The bolts I have no clue really - I suspect as half the ones in the original diff have loctite on, one diff did and one did not - no clue which way round that was - so he probably used 1/2 and 1/2 for the reasons above.
      What I cannot get my head around was fitting it in the first place, once he saw the knackered mounts, stop there and get new ones ? - next thing, the Portuguese expect you to supply everything spared wise (oil etc they have). Like getting the drug for my knee !! its mental.
      At least its fixed, and we learned a life lesson - check yourself and check the easy things first - at my age I should know that Mark !!

    Hi, do you maybe know what happened with my rear differential. The driveshaft is turning, but the drives are not working. I removed the electropneumatic valve and tested it with 12V; it works (raises a small shaft). It's a Fiat Panda 169 4WD 2010 model. I haven't checked the oil in the differential, but I'm not sure if that could be the issue. Please help.

    • @DrivenMadShow
      @DrivenMadShow  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We never had that issue as such - experts we are not I must add - the battery on ours was almost dead (no obvious signs it was) that caused some odd malfunctions and could cause the sensor/s to throw a wobble, we had ABS failure, which turned out to be the battery having low voltage as old. Low voltage would stop the solenoid engaging as well, this could work when testing, but fail once the car is running with other electrics drawing the power it needs to engage the rear diff ? Worth a look at the oil, more to see that its clean and nothing sinister has worn (unlikely me thinks, but worth a look) - hope you find it :)

    • @josipkardum5196
      @josipkardum5196 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@DrivenMadShow I have battery of 44Ah with 340A, and 0.4L leaked out oil from rear differential, it's 0.2L less than the maximum(oil has black color). What do you think about is the battery "weaker"?

    • @DrivenMadShow
      @DrivenMadShow  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Experts we are not ! - the battery we fitted was
      Capacity: 45Ah
      Starting Power: 440A
      Cold Cranking Amps (CCA): 880A
      But that would not cause you an issue unless yours is knackered - on the oil subject, FIAT's are very fussy on having the right oil (not just grade, additives are an issue - I contacted Liquimoly and they told me to stick with Petronas, the FIAT approved stuff) but the oil in the diff should be golden and clear - worth a change for sure.
